Angela Marsons nevers disappoints! Deadly Cry is I believe book 13 in the DI Kim Stone series. I don't know how Marsons comes up with her ideas but I do enjoy reading it. The Kim Stone series are always clever and whip along at a nice pace.

Deadly Cry starts with the murder of a young mother. It's a particularly clinical crime scene, devoid of signs of rage or passion on the part of the killer. The young woman had no enemies and wasn't sexually assaulted so it seems like a motiveless attack.
It's not long before an almost identical victim is found but her young son is missing. It's a race against time to save his life.

If you like MJ Arlidge and Helen Fields then Angela Marsons will leave you wanting more.

Another brilliant book in the Kim Stone series. Each book is just as amazing as the previous books. I love the relationship between her and Bryant, he knows just how to handle her! A great fast paced storyline that had me hooked from the first page and didn’t let go until the last page. A few twists along the way made for an amazing book. You will not want to miss this!! Can’t wait for the next instalment.

I definitely enjoyed this latest in the Detective Stone books. I had discovered the series right when the first book came out and followed it diligently for the first 5 books. Then, however, i lost touch with the series. But i am so glad to see that the series packs the sam punch as it did in its earlier books. I love how Stone's character has grown and how the book develops. The plot was tight and full of twists adn turns and kept me reading. I hated to keep it down and wanted to keep on reading everytime. Definitely recommended.

D.I.Kim Stone is back at her captivating and brilliant best in her thirteenth outing of this fabulous series. This time she and her team are in a race against time to catch a killer who seems to be targeting mothers with young children. When the killer appeals to Kim directly to stop him, it becomes personal. Gradually a pattern emerges but it takes all her ingenuity ably backed by her hardworking and loyal team for her to crack the case. So many threads running through this story, with so many twists and turns ,it kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I could never have anticipated the thrilling ending. It was good to see the lovely Stacey following her own cold case simultaneously and the brilliant way it worked it's way into the main story. Angela Marsons is in a league of her own . Her stories are written with such emotional intelligence, letting the reader into the minds and hearts of her characters. I fall a little more in love with Kim's foil, the dependable and loyal Bryant who supplies the social niceties lacking in Kim. I love the warm, genuine and determined Stacey and Penn, who , while grieving for the loss of his beloved mum, continues to work solidly to catch the killer. I found myself in tears for him and his adorable brother who has temporarily stopped his baking as he wrestles with his grief while trying to be strong for his big brother. That whole storyline was written so lovingly and so movingly , I wanted to reach into the pages and hug them. This book has absolutely everything. Totally absorbing and brilliant!

This is the 13th book featuring Kim stone. I absolutely love this series and the characters within it. This instalment did not disappoint with a clever plot and twist can’t wait for the next one!

Kim Stone - everyone's favourite Black Country DI is back with another case.

Anyone who has read any of the series (and if you havent......then why not?? Start NOW) will know what to expect. All the usual faces including a return by a previous character and an interesting tease for the next installment...

It is hard to say too much without any spoilers so ill just say get your preorders in (I believe release is 13th November..). You don't want to miss this one.

This was my first Kim Stone mystery and I really enjoyed it. Starting at #13 didn't hamper my ability to follow the storyline or invest in the characters. The characters of Penn, Jasper, Stacey, and Devon were easy to fall in love with and I was invested in their lives immediately. Kim Stone was not. I did not find her to be someone I would ever want to sit down and have lunch with, but she did her job, which was what she was there to do. While I understood she was written to be standoffish with a don't give a flying pig what you think kind of attitude, it made it very hard to like her. I found myself very apathetic toward her for the whole of the book.

When Kim and her partner stumble upon a child without a mother at the local grocery store, Kim and Bryant think it's nothing, until they later learn the child's mother was killed after being lured from the store. When Kim starts getting letters from the killer, asking her to stop him from killing again, she knows she's in a race against time as the bodies keep piling up.

The mystery plot was twisted, convoluted, and kept you engaged for the entire book. I loved how Ms. Marsons slowly unraveled each link until the picture was revealed, and what a picture it was! I did not suspect the culprits to be who they were, and that takes a lot for someone like me.

I was disappointed with the hanging plotline of Penn and his old friend who is clearly interested in him, so I hope that there is more to come on that in future books!

If you love a solid detective series written for the mystery reader in mind, then you'll want to start the Kim Stone series as soon as possible!

Book 13 in the DI Kim Stone series sees Kim up against a killer who leaves very little evidence,once again her usual team of Bryant,Stacey and Penn are with her to help find the killer.Kim also has to contend with a visit of a z list celebrity on her book tour which she finds very tedious until events take a dramatic turn.As with all the other books in this excellent series Angela Marsons has excelled in writing a story which kept me gripped until the final chapter and once again confirms she is up there with the best writers of this genre without a doubt.I woudn't hesitate to recommend this series of books but i would start at book 1 so you can get to know the characters and just what Kim has been through in her complicated life.What else but a massive 5 stars as Angela Marsons excels again !

There’s something about reading a Kim Stone book that’s like meeting up with old friends. Deadly Cry is the latest addition in this series, and it is another winner. If you’re a fan of this series, then you are in for a treat.

Kim Stone is once again thrust back into a new case, and it really does become a race against time. Never once did the pace slow down as I was reading. You can sense time ticking away, and Kim knows that any wrong move could have disastrous consequences. Kim and her team are investigating the murder of a woman and also the abduction of her son. Stacey, meanwhile, is revisiting an old case, even though a man was convicted for the crimes years earlier. But there is something about what happened that prompts Stacey to think that the man might be innocent.

I thought the two different storylines in this book gelled together really well. Stacey’s determination comes through once again as she fights to get to the real truth. As Kim’s investigation gets going, the killer starts sending her letters. In the letters, they are begging her to catch them, so they don’t kill again. I was never sure as I was reading this part if the killer was just simply playing games. But as investigations deepen and as it becomes a race against time to find the missing boy, they notice certain parallels with other crimes that have taken place over the years. But what is even more perplexing is if the killer wants to be found why don’t they stop what they are doing themselves? What is prompting them to carry out these attacks?

I really liked how the team got into the mind of the killer in this book. Angela Marsons peers into the psychology behind the killings, and it is here where Kim and her team have to tread carefully. They know if they make a mistake in their next approach, it could mean that the killer may escalate their plans. I thought some of the ideas which Angela Marsons explored in this section were really chilling. It may make you look at relationships in your own family a little more closely. It’s here I won’t say any more as I don’t want to give anything away.

Kim and her team certainly aren’t given an easy ride in this book. There is a lot of frustration amongst her team as they try to think of the best way to approach this. Kim again isn’t one to back down and will fight her corner with her superiors. This is a trait that Kim has carried throughout the course of the series, and it is what makes her a brilliant police officer.

Angela Marsons has written another winner here. Stacey is a character who has really become one of my favourites in this series, and she particularly shines in Deadly Cry. As always, I am now waiting with bated breath to see what Angela Marsons comes up for Kim and her team next. This is top crime fiction!

Having read all the previous books in the series & loving them, I was disappointed with this one.

The writing as ever was excellent but the storyline just didn’t grab me. The involvement of Frost, the descriptive section on handwriting & the profiling, topped off with the implausible thread on how Penn cracked the case with his scissor work.

If this is the first Stone book you read, you will no doubt enjoy it, but compared to the others, it was lacking for me sorry.

How on earth does Angela Marsons do this time and time again, and leave me open mouthed in amazement at such a wonderful book. It was addictive, thrilling and had me stumped. I only managed to connect one set of dots correctly, everything else I was understanding as the police were working it out.

And wow I have such resspect for Kim Stone and her team for continually doing their best despite so little evidence, very little to go on at all, and a killer who seems to be speeding up.

But also possibly a killer with a concious, that almost wants to be stopped, which is rather baffling as by the end I almost had some sympathy for the person trying to connect with Kim Stone.

And Kim is well her normal self, we see small insights into not only her life and her next project, but also we get a few scenes from Penn's home life and I'm starting to get a much better feel for Penn as a character. And Stacey is amazing as well, her data searches and instincts are rather impressive.

This really is a race against time featuring a murder and a missing child, as well as many other interesting threads, which are weaved together into this fabulous story.

It's another wonderful book for this series, and even features a returning familar face that I was unsure we would ever see again... and more run ins between Kim and Tracy Frost the reporter too!

All I can really say is bring on Book 14... I really don't want to wait for more, but feel I will have to.

You know when people ask you which superpower you would choose if you could only choose one, and then you choose invisibility, telepathy, or some other highly useful superpower. I would choose the ability to clone people. I would clone Angela Marsons so that she could write twice as fast. That’s how good she is.

Book number 13 in the DI Kim Stone series did not disappoint, how could it? It was written by Angela Marsons. If there’s something I’ve learned in life, it’s that Angela does not let me down. Neither does quirky, introvert Kim. This time around the team has several murders piling up, but they do not really make sense. What is the motive, and who is behind the murders? The killer sends messages, begging Kim to stop the killings, because the killer is not able to do it.

Like always, I simply couldn’t stop reading, so I finished the book in one sitting. The short chapters are great, because the story just rolls off the paper (or in this case tablet) into my brain, like a perpetual motion machine. It cannot be stopped. The show must go on.

Kim is one of my all-time favourite protagonists, and most definitely one of my top three Detective Inspectors. She likes to keep people out, which is understandable due to her bleak background. At least now she has lovely Barney, who doesn’t care about other dogs, so they understand each other. Personally, would not mind Barney getting a bigger role in one of the coming books.

Shortly, the book was oh so amazing, with a perfect pace, a nerve wrecking case, and unbeatable characters. Wow, wow, wow!

I felt like Stacey grew a lot in this book, and Kim knew that too. I am eager to find out what awaits us in future books, because it’s nice that there is a core group that you can trust, no matter what. I still can’t believe it that Angela and Bookouture signed a deal of 12 new books. That is insane! At least I know I will have lots of great reads in the next some years.

I hope Angela is writing the next book as we speak. I don’t want to be let down, so I’m sure this is exactly what she is doing inside a cozy little place, while the rain is pouring down outside, and the gloominess of English autumn goes well together with the scoundrels in her books.

This is the 13th DI Stone novel I have read, and Angela Marsons makes Kim Stone so believable every single time.
DI Stone And her team are in a quiet Lull at the moment and that suits Kim find, Stacey is getting married in a couple of weeks And Penn just lost his mother. But that is all about to change.
Stacy is looking at unsolved cases that have been rotated from other departments. Of course Stacey picks one of the hardest one, where a rapist is convicted for one rape but not the other. Researching the case, Stacey finds that the rapes are done in the same way, but two totally different outcomes.
Kim’s team are investigating two murders, one where a mother was lured away from her child, the other, the child is missing and the mother is dead, both crimes are the same but they are also so very different in character.
This story takes you on one of the best who done it’s, Angela keeps you gripped to the page and feeling everything that the characters are.
And in true DI Stone form, you are left to the very end to find out who it was, and it’s never who you think it is. I have yet to guess the culprit and I’m looking and reading all the clues.
Brilliant. Recommended reading for all thriller fans.

Another fantastic story in the DI Stone series. I felt the previous book lacked a little something, but this was back to a fabulous 5 star read.

Kim is back with her team to solve a series of brutal murders where the killer is communicating with her personally. We also see Stacey looking in to a separate investigation to try and get justice for the victim.

My personal favourite storyline was with Penn who I finally felt got the recognition and storylines he deserved. After his mother's recent death his relationship with his brother Jasper had become strained. We see the brothers divided and needing help to resolve their relationship.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, was one of my favourite in the series. Fantastic story telling by Angela Marsons and roll on the next in the series.

DI Kim Stone and DS Jim Bryant were on their way back from Diversity Awareness training. The need for coffee overtook Stone - the course had been a complete waste of time for her as she knew that she was equally rude to everyone. It was in the shopping centre that Stone caught sight of a little girl clutching a teddy bear in the absence of her mother. Stone and Bryant didn't realise the extent to which this case was going to occupy their minds as the body of Katrina Nock is discovered some hours later. Her neck had been broken and it had all the hallmarks of a quick, functional kill, but who would do that to a young mother out shopping with her child?

A couple of days later a second body was found in a local park. Louise Webb-Harvey's neck had been broken and her six-year-old son, Archie, was missing.

There'd been something of a lull in CID for a few days and DC Stacey Wood was taking the opportunity to catch up on the cases that are known as the 'shuffles'. They're cases which have remained unsolved at another office and they're reviewed by officers from another station to see if a fresh pair of eyes can shed light on what's happened. Stacey has a rape case. It was one of two cases within a few days of each other: a builder is serving time for the first rape but the investigating officer for the second case admits that they were pretty certain the builder was responsible for the second rape too but they couldn't put the victim on the stand. When Stacey talks to her she finds someone who seems to have sympathy with her attacker: it was almost as though he wasn't in control, wasn't responsible for what he was doing.

DC Penn's mother died recently and he's now solely responsible for his brother, Jasper. Neither is doing well, but Penn is determined to be strong and carry on. Between the four officers, they have to find the killer before Archie comes to harm. Then the killer leaves a letter for Stone: he's relying on her to stop him from killing again. Stone uses a handwriting expert and a profiler to get inside the mind of the killer - with shocking results.

It's book thirteen in the series: many of the earlier books revolved around DI Stone's private life but thankfully recent books have moved away from this aspect. You could read Deadly Cry as a stand-alone but you'll get more out of the story if you have the background from earlier books. Each officer has a history and they bring part of this to the current story with them, so there's a decent back catalogue to delve into if you'd like to know more about the group. They're tightly knit together and - remarkably - seem unworried by Stone's habitual rudeness. Only Bryant has the face to tell her when she's out of order.

The plot is unusual: I don't think I've ever read anything quite like it before so it's probably not worth trying to work out the ending before you get there. I'd never have got it in a month of Sundays although the clues are all there. I'd like to thank the publishers for letting Bookbag have a review copy.

Book 13 … This number is for some people just a number. For others not so much. Will 13 bring good or bad thing to Kim Stone’s door?
Bad things, of course, with Kim being a DI, but Kim would not be Kim if she would not push herself and her team to the limits in order to bring justice.
If this means being hard, she will be. If this means being compassionate, she will be. If this means going against orders, she will do it. But it’s always with the same goal in mind: to save lives.
People are born innocent. I truly believe that. It’s what life throws at them that makes or breaks them. Some people can cope and keep going. Others will be damaged and struggle and that’s were it all starts to go wrong. A battle where the strongest always wins and still can’t let go, but what if the weaker starts fighting back and can’t let go either?
The author had my full attention once again with her amazing story. I love the characters she creates and the interactions between the members of Kim’s team is great. A thrilling story that broke my heart but put a smile on my face sometimes too due to the little funny passages.
Another book that has been put on my 5 stars shelf. 😊

Deadly Cry is the 13th book in the Kim Stone series by Angela Marsons. I came to this series a little late with Book 2 ( Evil Games). I enjoyed it so much I immediately bought book 1 (Silent Scream). I've read every one since then. Each book is like visiting with friends and although I enjoyed the story I hate to see it end as I'm impatient for the next installment! This is a stand alone story if you haven't read any previously. I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy to review.

Another great installment in the DI Kim Stone series! I read this book in record time because I could not put it down. I've read the whole series and it just seems to keep getting better with the development of the characters. I especially love how Stacey has come into her own. I'm looking forward to the next one!
