I absolutely LOVED this book. I wasn't too sure what to expect when I started it (I'd seen a couple of reviews that mentioned it was about grief and healing and was worried it might be a bit "self-help-y") but as soon as I started reading I knew I would love it. It reads almost as if you're in the kitchen with Ella - lots of little asides like "yes, it should be that thin" and stuff like that. I couldn't put it down and read it straight through in one afternoon.
I've yet to try any of the recipes (Midnight Chicken is for dinner tonight!) but I can't wait to make them. I'll definitely be looking out for a hard copy of this to add to my cookbook collection.
A beautiful, genre-bending cookbook about staying alive. I love memoirs and I love good, easy food and the combination of both is just brilliant.
The formatting doesn’t transfer well to Kindle in this particular format, but otherwise, would give it a 5/5.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher!
There is a lot of 'cosy' to be found within this book, and some homely recipes are buried within.... but I must be honest and say this book is more than for beginners.....it would be very good for people who might never have happened across a kitchen before, and who may need an introduction to what spoons are and whether you may be debating to buy a bowl or not..
