A wonderfully simple but uplifting story celebrating the joy that birdsong brings. A little boy, with the help of his neighbours, sets off to investigate why the beautiful melody coming from a window in the village has stopped. His discovery and his efforts to solve the problem result in a story and illustrations that will delight every reader. I loved it!

A gorgeous picture book, brimming with kindness and hope and full of gentle colours and magical realism, Lucy Morris’s ‘The Song for Everyone’ reminds me of ‘Miss Rumphius’ in its simple and beautifully illustrated presentation of the simple message that the beauty of nature and one person’s choice to celebrate it can make a huge difference in the world.

The Song for Everyone by debut picture book author, Lucy Morris, encapsulates beautifully everything that music means to me and so many other people.

In a small town, the people are used to hearing a beautiful song floating down from a high window every day. It helps a little boy feel less alone, fills an elderly lady with joyous energy and guides a lonely cat towards some new owners. When one day it falls silent, the townsfolk wake up grumpy and sad. The little boy climbs up to the window to find a tiny bird who is tired and hungry and unable to sing any longer. So he nurses the bird back to health and they start to sing at the window together.

This book is pretty special. I love how the music is illustrated as plumes of petals, flowers, and leaves, which sweep around the page breathing new life into everything they touch. The transformative power of music, its ability to bring happiness and love, joy and kindness, leaps from the pages. I am going to be buying a hard copy of this when it’s released for sure!

This book has one of the most impressive illustrations I've ever seen. Even if there was no story; I'd like to look at it and just be happy to see them. I like how muted colours are in line with the story, which is very cute! The power of music and living in harmony with your townspeople is important, and this excellent book teaches that in a beautiful way. Loved this!

The Song for Everyone is a beautiful story celebrating the power of music and community. What would your song look like if we could see it? What colour would it be? What shape? What would it say? How would it touch others?

A delicate tune from a tiny window builds a bridge between people, wrapping around them like a blanket and telling people what they need to hear. Life, love and happiness travel on these notes communicating emotions and truth.

My daughter is always singing. The joy she finds in music is infectious and lifts everyone who hears it. In 2018, she was a finalist for Leeds Children’s Mayor with her manifesto about making music accessible for all children. She strongly believes that music has a significant impact on mental health and learning. During the first lockdown of 2020, she was a member of Gareth Malone’s Great British Home Chorus. Being able to sing everyday with thousands of others lifted her spirits and gave her purpose. Music is comforting, healing and a true friend.

Thank you to Bloomsbury Publishing and NetGalley for this important book.

A sweet book showing how a small thing can bring the community together.

A song is heard in the town and it means something to everyone, until one day it stops and the town comes together to find the song.

I liked the illustrations and the way the music was represented and morphed its way around everyone.

This is a beautiful story about the power of music and community. The people in the town love hearing the music that comes from the tiny window at the top of one of the houses; it gives each person something that they were missing, but when it stops and the people struggle without it, they know they must find out why and see if they can get it back.

This story is lovely and the illustrations are beautiful. I'd quite like some of them framed on the wall!

This is a lovely book which is inspiring and uplifting. It is about a community where the people are feeling sad until some beautiful music starts playing from an upstairs window. The music helps everyone to feel better and it brings them happiness and joy. One day, the music stops and the people try to find out why. My daughter and I enjoyed this book, with it's lovely story and beautiful graphics.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
