Dylan Prescott is a NYPD detective and a charming butch player in the field of love. One day after a basketball game in her neighborhood, Dylan meets Briana Logan who is a successful Assistant United States Attorney. There is immediate chemistry between Dylan and Briana but nothing happens. The next time Briana and Dylan meet it's at work when Briana is brought in to help with the legal aspects of an investigation that Dylan and her team have started work on related to suspected drug sales. Briana is now happy that nothing happened between her and Dylan since she does not mix business and pleasure.

As they work together on the case they grow closer. In the time that they spend together Briana learns that Dylan is actually a very sweet, caring person who goes out of her way to do things for people such as her brownstone tenants. Briana's opinions of Dylan begin to ease and the sexual tension between the two women grows until eventually Briana gives in.

As the story unfolds we learn about how the group plans to bust a major drug ring, how this impacts Dylan and Briana's growing relationship, and how external factors such as friends and acquaintances can sway their thoughts and opinions about their relationship. Overall of really enjoyed the storyline and the characters, but at times the drama factor was a bit high due to some of the relationship issues. However, these issues could certainly occur in real life.

I'd rate this book as 4 stars and would recommend it to others.

I like my romances with a bit of crime and mystery, just to counteract all the sweetness that is going on, this book certainly promises that, but I am not 100% sure if it delivers.

Dylan is a detective with the NYPD, with a chance overhearing she gets transferred to Major Crimes. Dylan is all about her career as a detective and being the stud in the Brooklyn gaybourhood. After a basketball match Dylan meets Briana, there is an instant attraction between both women. But when Briana's best friend ruins their plans for the evening nothing comes of it. When AUSA Briana comes into the office the next time she meets detective Dylan, now she is happy nothing happened, and nothing will ever happen if it's up to her. She doesn't mix business with pleasure. Both women are used to hook-ups, only casual, but what they seem to share is much deeper. The case they work together involves a drug ring and when Dylan goes undercover Briana decides it's too much for her. Changes need to be made to keep their sanity and their jobs.

I suspect Dylan should have been this butch, player character who turns out to be the sweetest person ever and it should be a surprise. But it isn't, not really, because from the first meeting she is nothing but extremely nice and caring. Briana on the other hand is a bit cold and has drama queen tendencies, I have a hard time appreciating her character. I do understand how they work well together. My heart will always have a soft spot for characters like Dylan, mostly because I can identify with such characters (apart from being a cop). I really liked how the story developed and how both "players" realised there is no urge to play the field when you have found your match. And they are both strong women, a lot of the time there is a dynamic where not both characters are strong and unapologetic about what they want, really big plus!

I absolutely adored this book. Bulletproof is not your average crime drama/romance, oddly enough because, for once, the romance takes the front seat with the crime drama expertly woven in between to create a different reading experience I wasn’t expecting but really liked. Dylan and Briana’s strong willed and driven characters, each experts in their own field of law enforcement and US Attorney respectively. Their love affair trips them up, and potentially their shared case that could make or break their careers. While their attraction is instant, their journey to love is anything but, especially while trying to bust a major drug ring. I truly enjoyed how the author draws the case into the romance rather than the romance into the case, especially since I really came to admire and like these women. Definitely one of the better books of the year in this genre. I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The story is about Dylan Prescott a brilliant NYPD detective and Briana Logan a successful AUSA. The attraction between the two is immediate but they both work on the same important drug trafficking case which is a priority. But ignoring their growing chemistry is impossible so what begins as a crime story turns halfway into a real romance.

I found the evolution of their relationship extremely natural, they know each other as two people not interested in a serious story but their attraction soon evolves into a true relationship that brings with it a legacy of insecurities and angst.

On one hand, I appreciated how the focus shifted, without my realizing it, to the dynamics between Dylan and Briana and how in general certain decisions we make can be perceived by the partner, especially if we are talking about our own work and career.
On the other hand, I couldn't help but notice how extremely heteronormative their couple dynamics were, it almost seemed anachronistic to me. As important as the representation of the "classic" butch-femme relationship is, I found it to be a bit too crystallized on binary roles, but maybe that's my perception.

I found it a good book, I would have perhaps preferred that the crime part was more preponderant and perhaps more complex but it's only because I love crime stories.

4.5* – Maggie Cummings writes really nice characters. Like, really really nice. I want them to be happy. They make my heart squeeze and breathe.

A detective in the Vice squad, Dylan Prescott overhears a few sentences in a bar that lead to a breakthrough in a Major Case investigation, which earns her a place on the team. Briana Logan is the Assistant US Attorney (AUSA) on the case. She’s also the woman Dylan was flirting with yesterday. Neither is looking for a serious relationship. Both agree their career is their priority. But life has a way of making you reconsider those priorities when you meet The One.

I love the forbidden love trope. It’s very exciting and when what makes it impossible is work, I love it even more because no on really gets hurt when the characters can’t resist anymore. Love wins because that’s the way it should be.

Cummings knows how to inject just enough angst to make things interesting but what I like best is the characters’ journey to realizing what they’re feeling is bigger than them. I like that both Dylan and Briana are relatable and very lovable, more complicated than they first seem to be, and as the story unfolds, more layers appear, more complexities, more flaws too, which all contribute to creating characters I can’t help caring about.

The romance is at the forefront here, which totally worked for me, but the police procedural storyline was pretty good too. I guess it helps that Maggie Cummings works in law enforcement in real life and knows what she’s talking about. Everything about the investigation, the police work, the relationships between colleagues rang true.

I’d love it if this turned out to be the first book in a series. There’s real potential for more.

3.75 stars. This book is a combined cop/crime story and a romance. The romance is the main storyline, but the crime story is nicely balanced and I found it a very interesting second storyline.

Dylan is a detective who just transferred to a new unit working on uncovering a drug ring. Briana is the Assistant US Attorney (AUSA) working with the unit and from the moment Briana and Dylan meet the sparks fly. However, they are both at a point in their life where they are not looking for a relationship and especially not one with a colleague. They decide to keep their interactions on a friendship level, but of course that’s not happening and before they know it they are more than friends. They decide to keep it a secret from their colleagues, but hiding their personal life is also eating away at them, so they have to find a solution to solve their problem.

I liked both mains, but the focus was slightly more on Dylan, so I had the feeling I got to know her just a bit better than Briana. Generally, I like one of the mains better than the other, but this book surprised me. In this book during the first part I absolutely loved Dylan, the second part though, I was all for Briana. Dylan is a butch player, but under all her bravado there is a super sweet and vulnerable person. Briana is a sexy femme, who is confident and smart. She is also a very caring person which shows in both her work and personal life where she tries to protect other people when possible.

During the romance there is some push-pull going on and some self-evaluation (considering they both wanted nothing more than a casual relationship), but things evolve rather naturally and are low on angst. However, at 80-90% in the book this changes quite dramatically. Yes, there is a big conflict moment. I don’t mind a conflict, but in this case I was wondering where the enormous amount of insecurity and angst came from. It was rather heavy on the drama, especially in comparison with the rest of the book which was much lighter. For me, this could have been a bit lighter, since there is loads of interesting stuff happening and I didn’t think this book really needed the additional drama (I think there will be plenty of people enjoying this plot twist, though). Other than that, I enjoyed the romance and they had good chemistry going on.

As mentioned, I really enjoyed the crime story, even if it was a smaller storyline. It felt very real, there were no mysteries to solve, but it shows a realistic (at least I think it is realistic) police investigation, including all the surveillance and work that goes into a big investigation, undercover operations and some action to top it off. I also enjoyed the secondary characters Stef and JJ, who had their own small romance. I was quite intrigued by their characters and actually could have read a book about their story, so I just wish I got to know what happened to them as this is left open to interpretation.

This was the first book I read by Cummings, and I found it an easy well-paced read, I will definitely read more of her books. I recommend this book to all who like a good cop story or crime investigation with a romance (and some drama).

I really enjoyed reading Bulletproof by Maggie Cummings. Both the lead characters were pretty amazing and the story so sweet.

Dylan is a cop who overheard a conversation between drug dealers while on another undercover op and as a result gets transferred to the team pursuing those dealers. Briana is the AUSA in charge of prosecuting the case. The book is about their relationship and how the case plays out.

I really liked Dylan’s character. She was shown to be a player in the beginning without being arrogant or obnoxious about it. Her vulnerability also shines through in the later part of the book and I found myself liking her more and more as the book progressed.
Briana was so strong yet sweet. Her love for Dylan and everything she does for them is really beautifully written.

I also enjoyed the supporting characters, especially Stef and Trevor. The case and details surrounding the investigation were so fun to read and so realistically written, which I later realized was because the author herself is a part of the police force. That gave it an authenticity I enjoyed.

Overall a super enjoyable book. Looking forward to reading more from the author.

Bulletproof has just enough action to make it fun and a sweet romance that while it faces some trouble, it's from within and learning to balance life and work. A good story to get lost in for a while :)

I'm a massive fan of the crime / mystery sub-genre, as well as a huge fan of Maggie Cummings, so when this story came along I knew it would be right up my alley. Cummings didn't disappoint either!

As with many police procedurals, the romance side of things is a bit rushed, but don't let that deter you. This story still packs a load of heat and chemistry, and the investigation side of things is top notch as well. If you're a fan of this style of story, this is a can't miss. 4.25 stars.

A couple of months back I read my first book of this author (Brooklyn Summer) and really liked it so when this one came along I defintely wanted to read it. The story about Dylan, a cop, and Briana, the district attorney assigned to the drugs case Dylan is working on, is again a sweet romance with characters you like and respect. The dialogue and interactions with eachother and others in the book feel realistic as does the romance that develops. For me that were her strong points in her previous book and she doesn't let me down, it's a relationship I could easily see unfold in real life with the bumps that come along with figuring out where you want to go with a relationship and the insecurities about whether both people have the same feelings.
The plot with the drugsdealers was an added bonus and made for a believable conflict situation later in the book. A well recommended read this one!

This has been a fairly nice romance, which at first seemed like going to focus more on the side of the police plot but then it has not been. Actually the criminal investigation part is quite in the background throughout the story.

The story is led by two women, Dylan, a police officer who thanks to her casually overhearing a conversation during a follow up, is transferred to a team that investigates a drug issue, in which Lauren, is the AUSA head of the legal part of the team on behalf of the prosecution. And Lauren and Dylan just met and felt that spark of attraction between them just before Dylan was transferred, what a convenient coincidence.

From the moment they begin to have to relate at work, their physical attraction grows and grows and they are not women who create in stable relationships and forever, but it is inevitable, so the time comes for them to give in, with The agreement to keep the reaction secret, with the difficulties that this entails, since the work team is close and closed and with the usual gossip.

The romance has been pretty well developed, Dylan is butch, Laurel is femme and together they are a blast. It certainly has its share of angst, Dylan is a police officer who works undercover. It also has its share of doubts from both women, they are afraid of commitment and they don't know how to react in front of some situation, so they act poorly, almost messing it all up.

But I think in the end everything has been properly balanced turning this story into a highly recommended romance.

At first I did not like it. reading more I started to like Briana by far. the flow was nice did not like how Dylan was super drama queen. getting angry at stuff that were not her business or in the past. Specially on JJ ! overall this was beautifully written. I don't remember if I read anything by Maggie but I'm for sure open to see her other work.

When I started this book, I didn't think I would get into it, but I was sucked in by the end. I was slightly annoyed with how much miscommunication happened, but that is also so realistic. If you are into f/f romance, I don't think you could go wrong with this one.

Dylan Prescott and Briana Logan were both strong independent career women and enjoyed casual relationships. When they met they were immediately attracted to each other. But they did not want to take this attraction any further because Briana was the Assistant US Attorney working on the same case as Dylan who was the co-case detective. However, their attraction kept pulling them toward each other. But once again the case had to be the priority before anything else and the outcome was extremely important to their careers. This was especially true for Briana who wanted to become US Attorney in the not so distance future. Then they tried to be just friends working the case, until that didn’t work. So once again they got together, but this time they devised a set of rules to keep their relationship a secret.

While reading this secret relationship part and the problems the secret cause reminded me of two songs: one from many years ago (Secret Love) and one current (Secret Love Song). Both perfectly fit the women’s feelings and how they longed to expose their secret love such as just walking in their neighborhood holding hands or acknowledging each other as girlfriends in their place of work. Still, with all the problems, the women wanted to hold firm to their secret relationship, until Briana made a very selfless decision.

I enjoyed this story, but there was a lot of drama and I found these disruptions a bit annoying. It seemed to distract from the flow of their developing relationship. I liked the characters and just wanted them to make intelligent decisions regarding their relationship and continue along that path.

I found the behind the scene police surveillance storyline interesting. The way the author described these scenes felt like you were watching one of those undercover cop shows. Any undercover work can be dangerous and the author presented it that way from Briana’s perspective worrying about Dylan.

This was an entertaining story. Even though I wished there was less drama to their relationship, I know many readers who will enjoy the story just the way it was written.

This right here is the one that I’ve been waiting for from Cummings, when someone puts words to paper about what they know and love you can tell.
The chemistry between the two mains was amazing. With each chapter it pulled me in and made me excited to turn the page. The banter and flirting between Dylan and Briana was just enough to keep you wanting more. The chapters flowed together seamlessly and kept me engaged in the storyline. If your looking a good action story with some hot steamy romance thrown in then this is a book your gonna need to read

Wow! [Insert expletive of your choosing]! This was a good book. The timing was perfect, the chemistry was spot on, and there was just enough angst (but not too much) to make the book hard to put down. I really don’t have anything negative to say. I was genuinely sad to finish the book. Thankfully there was an epilogue. Those always make finishing a story a little easier to digest when you are as invested as I was in this book.

This is absolutely delightful. There were a few points where I wanted Dylanand Briana to just have a conversation to Fox their issues but otherwise it was a great read
It’s sexy as hell and fun and precisely what I was hoping for when I picked it up

Dylan is a detective who just been assigned to a investigating drug ring after follow her instinct that may leave to a break in the case. Brianna is a attorney who has her work balance on point she doesn’t play.

When they meet they both aren’t looking for a relationship they are looking for right now but what happens when two people who don’t want commitment meet their match and realize they want more then they thought they could give.

This was a good read very easy to follow the dialogue was great the banter between them was good the sex scenes were fire. I can totally see this on Netflix as rom-com.

I'm starting to think this author is a guarantee for quality adult Sapphic romance. This is the third book I've read by Maggie Cummings and I was not disappointed.

I'm giving this 4 solid stars, I loved the main characters, a detective and a lawyer, they had flaws, they made mistakes and they apologized and that felt very realistic. Their chemistry was off the charts and don't get me started on the steamy scenes! I also found myself giggling a few times because their banter was just that well-written. The story was very entertaining, I like my romances with a bit of action. Moreover, I'm glad the side characters weren't cardboard cutouts but were instead an important part of the story, they didn't just exist because of the MCs and they were what made the novel truly inclusive.
The prose was very enjoyable and easy to read, the chapters not overly long.

Now onto the reasons why I didn't give it 5 stars: the use of the expression "You're such a pussy" which I find very offensive and don't like finding in books (or anywhere else to be honest).
The second reason is that the love story between the MCs was a bit rushed especially in the first 30%, I would've liked it to develop a bit more slowly.

Overall I enjoyed this and I would definitely recommend it. I'm definitely going to read this author's next novels.

See? This is why I mention in my reviews why books need to be longer to really flesh out the story! Nothing was rushed. We got to really learn about Bri and Dylan and watch how they moved from playas, to playas in denial, to being in love. We watched their insecurities rise, as they always do in new relationships, and be dealt with either maturely or immaturely. But it was always realistic. I just ate this book up and finished it in 13 hours. I loved it all
