I found the start of this to be really slow and I almost dnf’d but I’m glad I didn’t as once I got further through I started to enjoy it a bit more and found it quite good overall

Like many I thought the beginning of this book was sooo slow and I wonder how many people will stop reading because of that and it is a shame because once the book picked up I really enjoyed the pacing. It was a fun read

Stolen was a good surprise! I had never read a book by JD Tanner and enjoyed this story. It has a lot of action, I have no doubt that the author is very creative and seems unfazed by some crossed lines between police and culprits. The story has a good plot but the book needs better proofreading.
I downloaded a free copy of this book through NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

There are two things can’t say no to: small town secrets and coastal murders. I know this will not make sense to anyone else but it’s what I like. When the bodies of 7 women wash up, filled with drugs in their system, you can only imagine what this small town Texas town is going through. But what you don’t see are all the secrets held deep inside this coastal town. The development of the story was fast paced. It was a really good thriller.

After reading the description of the storyline I was really looking forward to reading it however after 22% I had to give up 😕. I just found it very ‘wordy’ in that what could have been said in one sentence took a paragraph, and everything was described in so much detail that the storyline got lost

This book was interesting but started out slow. Sometimes setting up a story is pretty boring but then it takes off. The story deals with the always interesting rich versus poor in our society and the ability with money to cover things up and to pay for more “evils.”
The background of the detectives are as also important to the story.
I would definitely read this writer again.

Spring Harbor is a very wealthy, exclusive, picture book town with beautiful mansions, expensive cars and glossy inhabitants. And at the centre of it all is The Spring, an uber-luxurious resort where every whim (legal or illegal) is catered for.

When a dead girl washes up onto the beach of this seemingly perfect town, a can of worms is opened. Her horrific rape and murder injuries remind the police of similar cases over the years - but none of these cases exist on the system anymore and were never mentioned in the media. And everyone connected to the past cases has mysteriously vanished. Detectives Melissa Longstreet and Pete Rodriguez delve into this case and find there is more than meets the eye about the case and The Spring.

You wouldn't think such a glossy town would have a serial killer lurking beneath the surface, or would you? Perhaps its the perfect hiding spot for them?

I found the book to be well written and the story flows along. The two lead characters complement each other nicely, although Melissa takes way more risks than one would think is normal for an ex-FBI agent. But I suppose without her risks, the story would not be so tense.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me the chance to read this book.

Stolen by JD Tanner started out well, sagged in the middle, and picked up a bit towards the end.

The beginning was quite engaging with the murder of a young girl whose case was similar to other murders in the area over several years. Then the book took a turn when one of the lead detectives, Melissa, decide to have a date with a possible suspect. Totally unprofessional, and it didn’t really add to the story, and it was a turning point in my enjoyment of the book. The book became slow and boring and only picked up briefly towards to the end. I did like the character of Pete who was Melissa’s partner. However, none of the other characters connected with me, and when that happens, the book just doesn’t keep me intrigued. The plot was so-so. The authors writing style wasn’t bad, but I do feel he got wordy towards the middle of the book which added to the boredom in the middle of the book.

Thank you to Net Galley, BooksGoSocial, and JD Tanner for the opportunity to read and review this ⭐️⭐️⭐️ star book.

I'll be looking for another J.D. Tanner book to read in the near future! Stolen is a book that keeps the reader engaged the whole through , and doesn't disappoint in the end. I liked the characters, and the slowly burgeoning relationship between Pete and Melissa really adds to the story. Graphic violence is included in small measures but adds to the story's realism. Well done!

I’m sorry to say I did not finish this book, Stolen. It just didn’t keep my attention. Had way too much detail about things that just didn’t seem important to the story. Descriptions of people’s looks and clothing were not of interest to me or important to the plot. Also way too much police abbreviations and jargon were used. That distracted from the actual information that was needed to explain the crimes.
And my last complaint was the fact that there were so many errors in grammar, use of prepositions and just general usage of words. Maybe this was an unedited copy that was presented on NetGalley, but whatever it was, I was disappointed and did not finish reading the book. I appreciate Net Galley giving me the opportunity to try this book, free of charge, for an honest review of it.

Unusual police thriller with good characters and a fast paced storyline. Horrific murders are being covered up but by whom?
A good read.

A girl has been found dead on the shore near The Spring, a fancy resort in Spring Harbor, Texas. Detective Melissa Longstreet and her partner, Pete Rodriguez, soon find out this is not a one-time crime. There is a serial killer in the Town murdering women in a really grotesque manner. And these are local girls, all who were just beginning their lives, beautiful and successful. Soon enough they discover a link to the Spring, and the secrets holding it together. Although the story was very graphic, it held my interest to the very end. I would love to read more of this author and Pete and Melissa.

This is a well written story that you can’t put down. When one murder leads to a series of covered up murders, this little town has a serial killer. Can two partners but with difficult heartbreaking pasts work together to solve this mystery? Can either recognize what is right in front of them, a chance at a new life together?

The little clues along the way keep you putting the whole picture together. Thank you to Netgalley for complimentary copy. The thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book isn’t for the squeamish. There are some quite graphic descriptions of of the torture and mutilation of the victims. The bodies of young women have been found washed up on the beaches near a Texas resort that caters to the extremely wealthy. There is a serial killer that has been killing for years without the community being aware. During the investigation of the most recent death, the detectives assigned to the case discover that the case files of the previous victims have gone missing. Someone doesn’t want these cases linked. This book starts off a bit slow and as stated earlier, is quite graphic but does hold your interest.

I loved loved loved this book. Had everything I wanted in a mystery can't wait to read more from this author

The story is based in Texas and the description of the locale informs us that there are two distinct areas – the first is a luxury, no, super-luxury resort that only very serious money can experience (or in fact construct) with all neighbouring properties in the luxury mansion category. The second area is called ‘The Heights’ – an area which houses all the poorer people, who provide all the labour for the resort – let’s call them the services employees. Then one day the body of a young woman is found on the beach. Enter the detectives. One female, one male; both carrying baggage from earlier trauma.

It soon becomes apparent that there is a serial killer on the loose. End of description to avoid spoilers.

I am somewhat disappointed in this book. The premise works, but it is a bit predictable. In fact there is a lot that is predictable. Again – spoilers prevent me from saying more. It is well written, perhaps a bit gory, and the plot is well executed but, for me, the predictability of it all spoilt it. It is true there are a couple of surprises but… Mind you, I did read it all!

Thank you to the author, publishers and NetGalley for providing an ARC via my Kindle in return for an honest review.

When I started the book I wasn't going to continue b/c it did start a little slow but once it picked up I couldn't put it down. The book did get graphic at some points but that is what made me keep reading it. It tied up nice at the end.

This book Stolen by JD Tanner was a big disappointment and I had to stop reading at 32%. Too much graphic details in the deaths of the girls to occur, How can I enjoy this kind of book? Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review.

A great read that you think you know what is going to happen many times, but are always wrong! Slightly different to the usual crime thrillers and the location you can really believe you are there.
