This was a very enjoyable novella. I found it to be everything you could ask for in a story under 100 pages. The characters were well thought out and there was a lot of chemistry.

I loved the story, it’s well written and I’m so thankful to be given the chance to read it. Can’t wait to purchase it for Christmas!

It centers around Noel and John who met at a masquerade ball 12 years ago and meet there once a year until he doesn't turn up one year.

I liked the concept of the story. Noel is a strong female character who overcomes her fears and worries to be with the one she loves.

It has slight paranormal elements which doesn't interfere with the story.

This was an short but very enjoyable read. Noel had been meeting John for the past 12 years, for one night only, at a masquerade ball. They had decided on no personal details. However, this year, John wasn’t there. Noel is determined to find him. John is equally determined to find Noel. This was a story of two people who had heartbreaking back stories but ultimately a happy ending. It is set around Christmas and has various customs and plenty of snow. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When I first read the synopsis, I was reminded of the Alan Alda movie from years ago Same Time, Next Year due to the ‘once a year’ aspect. That is where the similarity ends. With John and Noel’s agreement to not discuss anything personal and using only first names, their relationship has that air of mystery. This year, Noel just knows something is wrong keeping John from joining her at the ball.

Practically passing each other, Noel and John’s son finally meet up, with a little help, so Noel makes her way to John’s home without knowing his last name. I loved the paranormal aspect used to encourage Noel’s relationship with John.

Noel is concerned John will not be appreciative of her searching for him. She even feels betrayed at one point. Her father is actually quite cruel, but Noel has that element of hidden strength necessary for a great heroine.

John seems to be a different man from the gentleman she met yearly. He just knows what he wants and that is Noel. John becomes his ‘title’ on occasion because he does not want to lose Noel.

I am so enjoying the Masquerade series. Broken Promises is just as enjoyable as Dangerous Masquerade.

A wonderful Novella, set around Christmas. They had met at a masquerade and had such a great time that each year, they went back. No questions were asked. She had a thoughtful and kind manner. John was strong and protective. This year he did not show up. She was very worried about him, now she had to find out where he was and if he was o.k. A monumental task, but she found him but he was at Death's door. It took him two or three weeks to begin recovering. They started doing things and with his sons.
They went sleigh riding and getting a yule log also having a picnic. They took the boys with them. It was a very fulfilling time. Needless to say, it was an excellent novel and easily read. It was fun everyone chasing after her again. Even though this was short it was still enjoyable.
I received this from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

This is the perfect story for a quick read. I loved that the main characters are older, and have such an emotional connection, although Noel I found to be a little annoying at times. It’s a fast paced story and I would love to see a full novel about the couple, but overall it was very enjoyable.

Broken Promises is my first read from Peta Lee Rose. This is a very short novella, under 100 pages, but there was a lot of good character development and plot wrapped in a tiny package.

This is a second chance romance with older characters (never specifically stated, but given certain timelines, these characters are in their very late thirties, early forties.)

Two lonely and broken souls, Noel and John, have met once a year for twelve years at a masquerade / bacchanal. They form a deep connection on a personal and physical level, even though they vowed to keep personal details out of their liaison.

When John doesn't show up, Noel must find him. What ensues is unmasking of secrets and two good people finding a second chance at life and love. This was an emotional story, and the author did a good job with character development. There was a little bit of paranormal magic that added a bittersweet moment to the story. This is definitely a novella that left me wanting more. This was a big story to tell in so few pages, I'm excited to read other works by this author. There were a few friends of Noel's that the masquerade at the beginning that are screaming for their own books!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this story. All opinions are my own.

This was a shorter story, a novella, but it has all the nuance, flavor and depth of a full length novel. It was very well written, but I don't want to give too much away. The heroine is at a masquerade. She attends once a year. It is one of those bacchanali that no body knows who their partner is and there is usually sexual congress going on. The heroine met the hero the first year she attended, he swept her off her feet. They agreed to exchange first names and no more. But since they met up every year they would, spend 24 hours together. She looked forward to this every year for 12 years. Her husband had passed and she did not question the hero's position. This year she went and he wasn't there. She was worried and had her friend ask the host, but he refused to give them information. A gypsy grabs her and tells her to trust the book. She goes to the folly where they always had their visit, but it was still empty. She slept there waiting for him and in the morning when she gets out of bed, a books falls at her feet. I am not going to tell anymore, because you need to read this story. It was such a well written and lovely story. The supporting characters are surprising and support the plots. There are no errors and it is a smooth, continuous read. I could not put it down even if I wanted to. 5 stars all the way. I wish I could give it more! This is definitely the story to read on a cold night. I recommend reading this book.

Broken Promises is a quick and delightful historical romance with a bit of paranormal charm. The novella begins when, after twelve years of faithful attendance, John doesn’t show up for a yearly masquerade ball and his romantic rendezvous with Noel. Noel knows something must be wrong, and, concerned for John, seeks him out even though they promised never to do so. Will Noel find John? Will they reveal their feelings for each other? With secrets standing in their way, can Noel and John have a happily-ever-after?

The story takes place during the holiday season, and John and his sons embrace the magic of Christmas. Inspired by Noel's idyllic childhood memories of the holiday, John brings the joy of Christmas to his children and Noel. Sleigh rides, family dinners, games, and more help Noel see what her future could be like.

I enjoyed Noel and John’s story, and their love story is beautiful. Noel is a kind and loving woman with a complex past, and John is a perfect complement to her. They are both smart, giving, and sincere, and I love the way they feel about each other. There are reasons why Noel and Jack can’t be together, and they must face these obstacles before they can have a future. Ultimately, John and Noel (more Noel) must learn how to trust each other and open up to each other. This proves difficult since their relationship began with the promise of not asking questions and only living in the moment.

A sweet novella with likable characters and a wonderful love story, Broken Promises is a great read for people who like historical romance. I enjoyed how the novella unfolded, and the paranormal element is a heart-warming and touching addition to the story. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the author for a copy of the novella in exchange for my honest review.

This novella is a quick little holiday read with minor paranormal elements. Noel and John met at a masquerade twelve years ago. There are reasons they can't be together, and they have agreed to share no personal information about their real lives, just meet there and share one magical night annually. This year, he doesn't come, however. Noel gets worried and travels to a village two hours away looking for him, without knowing his full name or anything, just based on a clue that a fortune teller gave her. Luckily for her, the fortune teller's hint checks out and the people at the inn are able to point her to the correct man named John straight away. She finds him and his family in dire straits and is able to help. Eventually her family interferes but all's well that ends well.

Broken Promises is a sweet little interlude with a rather implausible plot. I would recommend it for readers who search a bit of Christmas magic. Some readers might not like John's family circumstances at the time they met.
