I’d like to thank Orion Publishing Group and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Shadow Of A Doubt’ by Michelle Davies in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Twenty-five years ago Cara was aged nine when she was accused of the death of her six-year-old brother Matty although she’s always denied it saying that his death was caused by a poltergeist known as Limey Stan who was haunting their house. Cara is sent to The Peachick, a psychiatric unit for adolescents, and then fostered in Morecambe, and only moves back to her childhood home in Heldean, Essex, when she hears that her mother has died. Her mother has stipulated that Cara attend the reading of her Will and leaves a sign in the now empty house in the hope that Cara will discover it and work out what actually happened the night Matty died.

I’ve very much enjoyed reading ‘Shadow Of A Doubt’ which I understand was inspired by a real life haunting that happened close to where I lived as a child. I found the plot unique and completely gripping with interesting characters, drama, suspense and twists and turns that kept me reading late into the night. The ending was unexpected but satisfying and I’m looking forward to reading what Ms Davies writes next.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Not really sure that I can write a review on this as it did absolutely nothing for me, found the characters really annoying and not too keen on the writing. Sorry

Cara Belling was nine years old when she was accused of suffocating and killing her six-year-old brother Matty. She claimed her innocence and said that it was a ghost called Limey Stan who killed her brother and haunted the family home. For her crime as she was too young to be convicted of a crime, she went into a Psychiatric unit for two years for being delusional and then went into foster care thereafter.
Twenty-five years later Cara returns to her hometown of Heldean. She hasn’t been near her family home in all them years. Her mother has died, and she has been asked to attend the reading of the will. She thinks that he will be greeted with open arms. But as she meets the family after all this time. They still blame her for Matty’s death, and they even got more reason to be angry especially Aunt Karen. When Cara is told that her mum left her the house in her will. Cara does not want to return to the family home as she thinks that Limey Stan will return.
Thank you, Orion, and NetGalley for a copy of Shadow of a doubt. I really enjoyed this thriller with its unique storyline and interesting characters. It did think it was slightly far fetched at the end but still well worth the read. 4 stars from me.

I have enjoyed Michelle Davies crime series featuring Family Liaison Officer DC Maggie Neville so was looking forward to this, her first standalone novel.
25 years ago Cara was accused of killing her brother in the family home and sent to a psychiatric unit. In the years following her release she never saw her parents again and spent the rest of her childhood and teenage years in foster care. Cara has returned to her home town after the death of her mother and is committed to proving her innocence.
This is a very unsettling novel and although at times a little unbelievable I found it to be gripping and satisfying and would highly recommend.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC.

This was an interesting book with quite a complicated and somewhat unbelievable plot. It was a bit scary at times but nothing too dramatic. I liked it overall.

This story is about Cara. At the age of 9 she was accused of killing her little brother. Cara blamed a ghost called Limey Stan. As a result Cara was sent to a hospital where she was treated for a mental illness. When she was released she went into care. As an adult her mother dies and much to her surprise leaves the house to her. Cara decides she needs to stay in the house and find out the truth as to what happened all those years ago.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. I found parts of this book really frightening but I must say that I scare quite easily. There was lots of twists and turns to this story which led to a fairly satisfying conclusion. The format of this book reminded me a lot of the Riley Sager books that I have read. I will definitely be seeking out more books by this author.

Hmmmm an interesting read if a bit unbelievable in parts. I cannot say too much without giving spoilers away but whilst the book had a good amount of suspense and suspects, it was not particularly surprising unless you count the motives of one (or even several) of the characters! However, I would say it kept my interest so worth a read.

This book was a surprise in many ways and a good one! No spoilers here, but the author did a great job of leading you to the truth of what happened, while Cara navigates through her own tortured past, unforgiving relatives and townsfolk, and her own feelings about everything that had, and was currently, happening. One of the most satisfying resolutions I've read for a while, and to me that's a huge part of the experience. A definite must read if you love a good, suspenseful mystery.

Cara killed her younger brother on that fateful night. But she blamed it on a paranormal entity she swears was haunting her house. No one believed her and after two years of treatment in a psychiatric unit for delusional disorder, Cara was shunned by her remaining family and put into foster care. Now she's being forced to return to the family home for the first time since her brother's death, but what if she's about to re-discover the evil that was lurking inside its walls?
I adored this novel. This was like C j Tudor but with a unique twist.
Thanks to NetGalley and Orion Publishing Group for giving me an advance copy.
