This is a great addition to The Lost Lords of London Series. It seems that not all of the Lost Lords were stolen, in this case Dare Grey ran away for fun and then got caught up with the wrong people in the Rookeries.
Now that he has been found- right on the verge of being at the end of a noose, he is back as a Marquess who inherits a poor estate and a sister to care for. His maternal grandparents, the Duke and Duchess of Pemberly, who found and saved him offer him a proposition - 20,000 pounds if he either helps his sister to find a husband or he marries and provides an heir. The only thing they don't know is that he is already married and his wife has left him.
One thing this book brings out is the fact that so many of us should be grateful for having parents who are loving and caring. Both Dare and Temperance had fathers who mistreated them, one physically and one mentally. Once Temperance is back in his life, she provides a settling influence and helps him become the marquess he should be, not what everyone expects him to be.
I received an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Facing the hangman's noose did not come as much as a surprise as it should have to Darius Grey, the Robinhood of the Rookeries. Making a way for the downtrodden by fleecing the well-to-do came with a hefty price that Dare was willing to pay. It was that connection to the Society he snubbed his nose at that was his saving grace in the end however, upon finding out he was really Lord Grey, a marques and grandson to a Duke.

His rescue came with a price of finding a bride, only Dare already had one in a lowly seamsress, Temperance Swift. Now he just had to convince her to come back to him after they went their separate ways over Dare's life as a theif.

While the angst in this story was magnificently wriiten, it came with the price of making the hero come off as extremely immature and heartless. Temperance, on the other hand, was the true hero in how she handled a life filled with tragedy. Early on she rescued herself when she should have had her husband to rely on. I had hoped for the heroine to get into a situation to be rescued, only so the hero could redeem himself. While he changed his ways, the ending came too soon to get an idea of his long-term turnabout. More than ever an epilogue was needed. Being so beautifully written, it would have taken only one more chapter to feel more secure in their future. Hopefully subsequent books in the series will answer the questions on their happiness and the happiness of those they loved.

Hero: 2
Heroine: 5
Steam: 2 (but more would not have worked with the storyline, so 4 for execution)

Overall: 3.75/4

Another lord who lived the life in the Rookeries comes face to face with the past he left behind. Dare Grey left to seek adventure, due to a terrible father, and became a good thief, but always looked out for others until it landed him in prison. Temperance was rescued by Dare many times and she tried to reason with him and how he can be so much more, but he refused to give up his lifestyle. Now a marquess, Dare must find a wife to receive money, but he already has one in Temperance. Temperance always cared about others more than herself and agrees to help Dare. Neither realized that their feelings of love never left and now become stronger, even though both took different paths. But someone still has it out for Dare and it all circles back to the past.
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

3 stars, this book had such a great setup with the H and h knowing each other since childhood and growing up in the slums together because of family issues they both had. I really wish we had gotten to see flashbacks of those formative years and see their meeting/building of friendship/first kiss etc. The characters were both very likeable as they genuinely wanted to do good and their chemistry was solid.

The main downside was the abrupt ending, and I had to remove a star for that. It feels as though the issue between the H's grandmother and the h is left unresolved and it would have been nice to see a page or two devoted to fixing that relationship.

All in all, this was a really easy to read, endearing historical romance with likeable characters with believable motives.

I love Christi Caldwell and I'm so into the way that she mixes London's rookeries with the ton. I especially enjoyed the last two series about siblings and rivals that had grown up under Mac Diggory's tyranny.

This series is focused on the children that were taken by Diggory or lost to the streets, the children of noblemen that grew up as street rats and I was so looking forward to it. So far, these books have fallen flat for me and I really couldn't keep myself interested in this particular story in the same way I have with the previous series' books. I'm hoping that the next book is different but I just find them a bit repetitive and tedious and I find myself wishing for something more interesting.

I don't want to give this a low rating as I really do love Ms. Caldwell but this really wasn't the book for me.

2.5 stars.

This is the third in the Lost Lords of London series, and the first that can 100% be enjoyed as a stand alone. This series has a different feel to it than most historical romances (even to most of Caldwell’s), but this book has a different tone altogether. I love Christ Caldwell’s books, but something about this one didn’t sit quite right with me. The hero chooses to live in the slums (though he was led to believe he had to); the hero and heroine already knew each other, which didn’t allow us to watch them fall in love; the hero was so stubbornly resolute on a life path that I didn’t understand, which made it very difficult for me to sympathize. The hallmarks of Caldwell’s stories were all there, but didn’t gel as well as usual.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I want to start by saying, I've read several of Christi's books and have liked them. This one was frustrating and depressing. There is so much negativity and angst. I also felt there was some repetition of thoughts and memories. I ended up skipping a paragraph here and there. Deep down, Darius is such a good person, but he is stuck in the past. I liked Temperance, but thought she gave up too easily on certain things. Lastly, the ending was abrupt. I felt like I needed a little more.

Thank you Netgalley and Montlake for the ARC in exchange for my feedback.

It’s a bit of a Robin Hood type story, that I think would have profited from more background info on how the time on the streets went.
Temperance was a bit too good hearted when it came to Dare and the whole family dynamic was a bit off in my opinion.

I don’t know what year this was supposed to have taken place, but it wasn’t clear. The cover doesn’t give anything away either.

It was an ok read, but I don’t know if I’ll read other books by Christi Caldwell.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was a pretty easy read. It was a nice story with a Robin Hood type storyline where the grandson and heir of a duke is giving money to the poor and is about to hang for it when he’s rescued by his grandfather. The story with Dare and Temperance takes off from there, with their relationship growing and becoming closer again as the book goes on. Dare’s family all understandably reacts to Temperance in a certain way, but even with this I liked Dare’s sister Kinsley. Quick, easy read.

I loved the story and the story line was easy to follow. The author drew us in and allowed us to experienced the many emotions of her characters. The story had intrigue, suspense, betrayal, intelligence, mystery, romance, and the sexual scenes were slight.

A complex series of events and emotions follow the grandson of a Duke. Dare Grey's sense of adventure as a child alienates him from his father's approval and affection. Once he can't return home, he grows up in London's rookeries. To steal from the rich and support the poor is what he lives for, until he's standing on the gallows of Newgate. Rescue by his grandfather is on the table if he agrees to two terms. One will force him to confront the past he's ignored for five years, the woman he really loves. With a lot of twists and turns, this book goes deep with emotional and physical pain that may be triggers. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. (4 1/2 Stars)

I loved this book. It had twists so unlike the normal historical romance that had me gasping and ugly crying. So much ugly crying on my part. The emotions Ms. Caldwell evoked are incredible. This is that book I would buy for a friend and force them to read. It truly was THAT good. I now need to devour everything this author has written. Even if her other books were half as good as this one they would still be phenomenal in my mind. The only criticism I have is that this book NEEDS a epilogue. With everything that happened we need to know how the duchess and society treated Temperance and Dare in the years to come. We also must know what their family unit looked like in the years to come. I truly hoped the two of them adopted several kids from the Rookeries, especially a little girl. and then were suddenly blessed by an unexpected pregnancy to solidify Dares family line and remove the horrible cousins from inheriting. That is the only thing this book a was missing the truly happy ending,

I received an early copy of this book in exchange for my review and honest, unbiased opinions. Thank you for the opportunity to read this wonderful novel.
