A beautiful little picture book, which is perfectly relevant to these uncertain times, it has a gorgeous message of love and hope and equality. The illustrations are incredibly eye-catching, with a simplistic beauty that will appeal to all readers, this is an all-around gorgeous and heart-warming book.

I found this to be a very odd book. Told in rhyme, the book shows different animal mating rituals and compares them with human relationships. If it was all about animals I could understand it; if it was about humans it would make sense but I found the jump from one to the other and then back again quite disjointed.

There was a factual section at the back of the book explaining animal mating rituals which was, in my opinion, the best part of the book.

It’s a really beautiful book. The cover grabbed our attention straight away and the colourful illustrations continue all the way through!

The rhyming text is lovely to read aloud to younger children or just to yourself. The book gives many brilliantly illustrated examples of the ways that humans and animals show their love for each other.

There is a wonderful selection of animals (birds, snakes, deer and whales) as well as human couples and families of all ages, colours and genders.

It also has a useful factual section at the back of the book which includes facts about each of the animals and how they find partners.

It is a happy book best read while snuggled up with someone you love! We think it would be escorcially enjoyed by younger children who like animals and would like a copy of this book on our own shelf!

I expected this book to be about the different love language animals have from others. I was only a bit far off, this book is actually about courtship. It shows some examples of human courting and in short verses compares it to how different animals court. I found the book sweet and fun for kids and the art is adorable. I could stare at the illustrations for hours. The human couples were also rather diverse which I really appreciated. At the end of the book it explains the animal courtships in a bit more detail which I found really nice, as I was not always familiar with the animal courtships that were mentioned.

If I only had one qualm, it would be the very first verse, that could make people who are not interested in romance feel a bit bad, though I am sure this was not the intent:

“It is the truth, there is no debate. Every creature wants a mate.”

What a wonderful way of answering children’s early questions around relationships and love. This book is a great talking point which could support younger children with the concept of love and relationships and is expertly yet delicately put. I also enjoyed the fixture of fiction with the story then the non-fiction element at the back.

The pictures in this book are cute. A book all about different ways animals and people show they love you. I like that this book has animals in that you wouldn't necessarily talk about. I really like the end where it goes on to explain each of the animals way of showing love in more details. Definitely a must have book. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this cute book.

Beautifully inclusive and delightfully wholesome, who doesn't love a picture book that celebrates everything LOVE! From great big bear hugs and whale love melodies, to wedding vows and holding hands, Ways to Say I Love You explores the many wonderful ways that creatures and humans express their love and affection.

Told through a simple but affective rhyming verse, Marilyn Singer cleverly compares creature courtings to similar human ones, but it's Alette Straathof's illustrations that really steal the show! Each page is lovingly adorned in colour and charm.

A spread or two on self-love would've been super special though; not 'every creature wants a mate'. Self-identity and independence are just as important as love and relationships.

Oh this book is a truly sweet and lovely one. I read this with the little ones and I was really impressed with the pictures, the wording and the rhyming, though it was short and sweet they loved it, understandably, they loved it too and we all liked the info pages at the end about "courting" which the kids loved and had lots of questions about! Thoroughly recommend this one and can't wait to add it to our shelf, as it shows that all animals and humans need love and attention and it was such a nice way of the kids to see that.

''Furry, finned or birds of a feather, how do creatures get together?'' I will be drawn to this quote for quite some time from now on! The child within me is so happy right now. This was an absolute delight to read and flip through!

A beautifully illustrated book that discusses all the ways of expressing love or attracting mates, including how humans of all ages, races and nationalities do it, to how animals do it as well.

I'm by no means a child, but I felt transported into a time where my mother would hold a book in her hands and let me watch beautiful pictures while she read the story. This entire book made me feel loved, warm, and cosy. It felt like a big hug.

The focus is simple - love. It educates us on love in this world, and how we are all bound by it and can't live without it. The diversity illustrated also helps explain how love is for everyone, and there are no limits when it comes to it. Love is necessary, whether you're a human, a bird or a swan.

I have to admit, I also learned some new information as well! I will definitely be going through this book again...and again...and again.

I would recommend it to parents, friends of parents, any adult and child out there that needs more love in their lives, as well as something gorgeous to look at and read in those times when comfort is necessary.

I was lucky enough to receive an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I read this book with my two year old son and we both loved the beautiful illustrations as well as the story.

Singer explores how different species attract a mate. Included in the illustrations are people of all colours and orientations - beautifully inclusive and so important to show in children's books.

Once we had read this my son asked for it again - which means it has the child seal of approval! I loved that at the end there was more in depth information about different animals and their 'courting' techniques.

Overall a wonderful child's book complete with vibrant and beautiful illustrations, one I would highly recommend.
