I enjoy a Susan Lewis novel and this one was no exception.

I’ve got to be honest and say that the first 15% was a slow burn for me. I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy it, the Crayce family were over privileged, noisy and inhabit a world that I never will and couldn’t relate to. But intrigue started to build as the unsolved murder of a teenager 20 years ago is suddenly linked to this family, ripping lives apart.

I enjoyed the depictions of the central characters as mistrust starts to grow. I would recommend this book to others.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

As always with a Susan Lewis novel this was excellent. Well written, multi layered characters and a plot line that you have no hope of working out before it lands in your lap.

Well that was a highly enjoyable way to spend a chilly frosty day! Snuggled in my armchair with a tale that slowly unravells, each step and reveal gives you snippets, outright lies, subterfuge and just when you thought you knew who had done it, you realise you know nothing! Brilliant

As usual Susan Lewis created another brilliant read. Loved this book, fantastic style of writing. It kept me guessing the whole way through. I was convinced Harry was the culprit so was shocked at the outcome. Highly recommend.

17-year-old Karen Lomax was murdered and her body dumped in an old hut. Fast forward 20 years and Annie and David are the perfect couple. Rich and successful, their world falls apart when a teenage prank has the unexpected result of throwing up a familial DNA match in Karen's murder. Told from Annies point of view - as well as a few chapters from the investigating officer Natalie - it follows the action as this cold case unravels and the truth is finally revealed. The question is though, was it her brother-in-law, father-in-law or her husband who killed Karen?

This wasn't my favourite of Lewis' books. Don't get me wrong, the usual Susan Lewis style was there as was her brilliant characters full of depth and flowing writing which is full of detail. It was just lacking a connection from me. I think it's just because I do not live in that world and therefore wasn't able to connect to Annie in the same way.

Overall, I did like her and by the time the book really got going half way through I was really with her trying to find out exactly what happen that week. But the fact is that she exists as part of the entitled, rural "YAH" tweed set whose holidays are filled with skiing and their weeks filled with the hunt. It just isn't my world nor is it something I can relate to. For that reason. the book was a little slow for me and it took me a while to get in to it. I had more connection and felt more for the Lomaxes, whose daughter simply caught the eye of the wrong kind of people and paid the ultimate price for it.

I enjoy Susan Lewis' books and this one wasn't an exception. I loved the twists and turns and not really knowing how it would turn out and who did what and how! Did not see the end coming but it all slotted into place when it did. Can't wait for her next one.

A very different style of Susan Lewis book. If you like psychological thriller' whodunnit' stories then you'll probably enjoy this tale of a cold case murder that has come to be re investigated following a misdemeanor by a young family member of the Crayce household.

It is very well written as you'd expect from Susan Lewis but for some reason that I can't quite put my finger on, I wasn't drawn in to this book as I usually am from my favourite author. On the whole I enjoyed reading it but I have to say that it is not my favourite book.

Thankyou for inviting me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Another brilliant book by Susan Lewis, working in the area of criminal justice I found the decisions made in the story interesting! Well written as usual and there was an unexpected twist I was not expecting. Highly recommend this book to relax with, you won’t want to put it down.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance copy of this outstanding thriller. The whole Crayce family are successful and well liked. When teenager Sienna gets caught up in a shop lifting incident her DNA shows a family connection to a 20 year old murder of a teenage girl. The Police open up a cold case with Dad and both sons as prime suspects. When the DNA results come back they make a arrest but have they got the right person? Slowly the case unfolds with twists and turns. Then the shocking truth is revealed. A gripping page turner I highly recommend.

This book took some getting into, mostly because of all the characters. I'm not even sure if I could honestly tell you who was who by the end either, I didn't care much for any of them. The story line had great potential but went on a tad too long for me.
On the plus side I didn't see the end coming. I have rated this book 2.5 and rounded it up to 3

I am a fan of Susan Lewis’s work, but this one did not quite hit the mark for me. It has a very slow start, being almost 50% in before anything very much happens. The first few chapters set up the scene, centred around a large shooting estate and farm. There are lengthy descriptions of the countryside and set- up of the business. The author introduces so many characters in the first chapters, with relationships described and where they live in the village, that I found myself losing track of who was who, and how they were related/connected to the main characters. What is wrong with bringing in characters/ relationships as the story evolves? Much more satisfying for the reader, especially when there is such a large cast of characters, all living in each other’s pockets.
The wonderful, perfect life that all these characters evidently enjoy, with their faultless relationships, was difficult to comprehend.; the wonderful David, his wife Annie, three children, one younger, two at boarding schools; add in brother Henry, wife Julia, father Dickie, Annie’s parents, various friends including the mysterious Chrissie......all this before we think about the family of the murdered young woman a long time ago.....or the police investigation team then, and now......and legal representatives at various levels...
On a positive note, , the characterisation is excellent, and well rounded, for the central players. The mystery, when it finally gets going, is intriguing, throwing up various strands from various characters, and interesting details of forensic scientific investigation.
At this point I really enjoyed the story, and the twist was completely unexpected.
I don’t feel that the last section of the book, involving the murder victim’s family, was necessary, and added nothing to the story. It just seemed very patronising and implausible to this reader.
My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance copy of this title. I wish I had liked it more.

Fabulous which I knew it would be all her books are it’s about a murder 20 years ago which becomes a living nightmare for the Crayce Family who live a privileged life and have everything so perfect when a teddy bear comes to light with DNA on it I hadn’t a clue who had done it there was so many twists so great surprise when all was revealed. I definitely recommend this gripping book and thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an early copy.

A great story with so many thoughts going through as to who is at fault, is this all some massive mistake etc.

Nice twist towards the end and hard to put down!

It's been a while since I read a Susan Lewis book and I'd forgotten how much I love the tangled web she weaves.

The premise of this is that things that happen in the past never really go away and often come back to haunt us in the most unexpected ways.

It starts with a stolen teddy bear and the arrest of a sixteen year old, well it starts before that, the murder of a teenage girl over 20 years ago - but what connects the girl who stole the teddy to the murderer? DNA, that's what.

We are then given a trio of suspect as the police try to solve this cold case.

Really enjoyed this twisty tale, weird having the occasional reference to a virus on the horizon (the book is set in early 2020) and how oblivious the characters are -certainly felt true to life!

My only niggle in this book is the phrase 'cocktail me up', it just jarred slightly.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book, this is my honest opinion

A really complex question...how do you trust someone when faced with irrefutable evidence that they, or a member of their family, committed an horrendous crime some 20 years ago?
Seemingly a perfect existence in a country pile with land, an outdoor pursuits business and family close by everything is ruptured when a stupid shoplifting experience allows current DNA to make a familial match to an unsolved cold case.
The characters are so cleverly written that it is impossible not to like and distrust them simultaneously whilst feeling empathy for the situation and also distaste for their privileged existence!

Susan Lewis has done it again. Couldn't put it down. Gripping from start to finish.
David, Annie and their 3 kids, davids brother and wife and their dad are about to have their world collapse. A 20 Yr old murder is now being investigated again after a recent finding of a DNA match. Familial DNA. Can only belong to David, his brother Henry or their dad. David seems to be prime suspect. All 3 know that for them to be eliminated it means one they love is guilty.
Really enjoyed this read and wow!! The twist!!!! Excellent.
