Dino Breaks The Rules is a lovely story which both myself and my 4 year old son enjoyed. It was a little difficult to read on the NetGalley App but we still understood the story and the illustrations were beautiful.

Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for my ARC.

This was slightly better than the impatient dinosaur by the same author. The text could still be made to sound cleaner and flow better, but this was a step forward. The lesson was conveyed a little better than the predecessor and the story and art flow better.

Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read "Dino Breaks The Rules" in exchange for my honest review.

I feel that this book is an excellent resource for parents, teachers, caregivers - Everyone that is involved in educating our children. This book is aimed at children in the ages 3 to 5 category or preschoolers. However I feel that even older children and even adults can benefit from the core values in this book.

This book shows children a lesson - that we all children and adults alike - have rules that we need to follow and that sometimes not following rules will have consequences for everyone. How rules in our everyday lives are usually there to keep us safe.

Parents and educators through a tool like this book can encourage children to explain and express how they are feeling, why they might feel that rules should not be followed. It could even encourage a conversation about how they might change the rules. There are endless possibilities and the most important part is instilling in children the knowledge that they can always talk to a trusted adult about how they are feeling.

I think the illustrator of this book did a fantastic job creating the characters. The pictures are all colourful, engaging and the Dinosaur is simply adorable. I think children will sit and pay attention because children love bright colours and characters that appeal to them like dinosaurs.

I think Ms. Read did an exceptional job writing this book and I absolutely encourage anyone that is involved with children and educating them to use this book as the wonderful tool that it can be to start a conversation with children and encourage them to keep talking.

The story was great and my three year old loved it. He struggles with emotions and this helped him immensely. However, it was difficult to read because of formatting. I would recommend the physical copy rather than the ebook for that reason.

This was the cutest book about consequences. Dino is totally impulsive and busy and doesn’t follow the rules or pay attention, and he realizes that by being like that he is hurting peoples feelings. My 2 boys (9&10) enjoyed it, and gave us something to talk about after!

*As a note: the books were very hard to read on a digital platform as they don't appear to have been adapted to be compatible with Kindle or NetGalley's shelf. So it was a bit difficult to read this book but it was worth it.

<i>Dino Breaks the Rules</i> is part of a series of books that provide a conversation starter on tougher feelings our little kids begin to become aware of. In this story, the young Dino doesn't think he should have to follow any rules. We see several cause-and-effect scenarios where Dino makes a conscious decision to rebuke a rule and then quickly see an example of the effect that decision can have on others or himself.

The book says it's marketed to 3-5 year old kids but I would push up a year to 4-6 year old instead. While the average 3 year old may love the bright fun illustrations, I'm not sure they should be the target audience for the message. At 3 years old, the child's brain is still developing the ability to even understand cause-and-effect. That's just my opinion though and I would still recommend it to anyone with kids under 6.

The ending is what sets this book apart. I enjoyed that it wrapped up with showing Dino and his Mom reflecting because that is such an important part of kids learning.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. The story was easy to follow, descriptive without being overly wordy for the age group, appealing illustrations, and a gentle approach to why we follow certain rules and boundaries. The last page illustration (The End) is so cute that I would buy a print copy of it to hang in the room, it's quite adorable.

<b>My Observant Rule-Following 4.5 year old's opinion:</b> <i>Thank you, thank you, thank you for this book, I really liked it a lot.</i> When asked if there was anything she didn't enjoy about it she said, "<i>I don't like that the words and pictures don't match in the grocery store. It says Dino got a blue cart but the picture is dark purple. The sister got pink cart but it's also purple. Why is that?</i>. She said she would not want to read it again but that she was glad the Dino started following rules. Her final qualm was that when Dino slipped on a banana peel he said, "I should teach my friends that littering is bad." her immediate retort was, "<i>well he should probably teach himself that first, he littered too!</i>. "

My rating: ★★★★☆
My child's rating: (✿◠‿◠)

Voicing what most reviews have said so far - used Kindle & Netgalley's own Shelf app & this book isn't downloading correctly.

My three year old still enjoyed the dinosaurs (her absolute fave right now!) and the bright, bold colors that were a lot of fun. Giving it 4 stars, because other books by this author have been amazing, so I'm sure this one is as well - I just can't commit to more when I can only see a portion of the book.

Pitched at young children between 3-5 years of age this is one of a serious of books that tries to convey a lesson or explain an emotion.
“Why do dinosaurs need rules? Dinosaurs need rules to feel safe and secure.”
The aim is to prepare children for the real world where society expects standards of behaviour, responsibility and values.
The book introduces us to a sweet dinosaur who is a little impatient, not keen to listen to parents and teachers alike and too quick to follow the bad example of peers.
I think the clever illustrations add weight to the words and in three scenarios we see the dinosaur learning the consequences of not following the rules. The key here is the lesson learned by being corrected or falling foul of other people’s disregard for rules.
It shows the importance of being told something is wrong and that rules have a purpose. Indeed when he slips on discarded little it is a more immediate and painful lesson.
I liked that he takes his insight seriously and goes on to share with his friends not to litter as he hurt himself because of others not observing a sign.
I also like the positive reflection of sharing with his family and waiting for the treat of his favourite cake.

I have read a few of Sarah Read's books now and think they will be quite helpful when my son is older, he is still too young for them now. As in Sarah's previous books, the illustrations were well done. They are brightly colored, simple, and fun to look at.

The story itself reads and flows well. It is written in a way that a 3-5 year old would be able to understand, which is great given that is the age range she was aiming for. The story provides four examples of where Dino is not following the rules and a 5th example where he knows already what the rule is and follows it on his own.

The lesson that Sarah Read is trying to relay in the story is a great one. If you break a rule there are natural consequences that may occur. I feel like she did relay the message pretty well, however, I wasn't the biggest fan of the examples and how they were handled. For example, I didn't really like the way the Mom dino handled the first incident with Dino in the book. I would have liked it if she had also at least spoken to Dino's sister and asked if she was okay and explained a little bit more about the incident and why it was not good to run in the store. I felt that she was too focused on how the sister could have been hurt and the clean-up of the mess.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. I just didn't really find the examples to be the greatest. I did really love the illustrations though and the lesson that Sarah Read was trying to relay I feel like she gets through to the reader.

My toddlers love dinosaurs and so we were very excited to read this one. I downloaded this twice on different platforms and sadly the formatting made it very difficult for us to follow. The pages are out of order. I tried to read what I could to the kids but they were a bit confused.

A cute, well illustrated story about following rules. This book is good for kindergarten or preschool aged kids. Super cute and easy to follow.

"Dino Breaks the Rules" is a great book to help teach young children around pre-school age some valuable lessons. It helps children to understand that rules are there for a reason. As usual I loved the illustrations and the dinosaur theme was adorable.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book didn't download correctly and I tried everything, so I had trouble reading it. That being said, the illustrations were really cute and from what I could tell it was overall a good story line. I like the message and I love the dinosaurs. Hard to honestly review with not being able to read the entire thing--but it looked like a good start!

My only problem with this book, is that it didn't download right and I couldn't read it. I did read another in the series though and it was wonderful. I would buy any book in this series. I tested the other out on my 2 year old grandson and he loved it!

I was unfortunately unable to view the entire book in order on my kindle app, but from what I could see the book had some great life lessons that Dino learned. The illustrations were colorful and bright. Very young readers would be sure to enjoy this!

A gorgeous book that explains why it's important to follow rules. Dino gets into a lot of trouble when he doesn't do as he's told but once he realises the consequences of not following the rules, he decides to do what he's told. This book is pitched exactly right for pre-school and nursery children. It gets its message across without being preachy.

From what I could read of the book, I couldn't open it on my netgalley app or through a download, it was a cute book. I'm not completely sure of the writing because it was mostly missing on my copy, but the illustrations were excellent. The pictures were bright and fun.

I could not get the book to load on the NetGalley app and when I tried to sign in on my mobile device the book had disappeared. Unable to review.

An adorable story that lets children really see normal every day situations and how they perceive it vs how it seems to everyone else. Perfect for adding into a homeschool setting for just a little perspective while not seeming like a learning book.
