Wow! This story broke my heart a little bit and made it whole again.

A beautifully written story about how despite the heartache and loss you think can never be escaped some people can find another soul mate in the world.

I don't think my words could do this any justice so please please please just read and see for yourself 🙂

I was totally engrossed and invested in this perfect love tale. Anna and Brody are beautifully flawed characters who wade through heartache and self recovery to find themselves and one another. The writing is poignant and heartfelt, the stories are intertwined.

A wonderful experience to read! I hope to read more from Fiona Lucas.

Thank you to the author, Netgalley and the publisher for the arc in exchange for a fair review.

4.5 stars!

A gorgeous and beautiful tale about loss and second chances.

Due to the richness of the romance and the depth of characterisation, in some ways it reminded me of Sleepless in Seatle and P.S I love you. I was totally caught up in its embrace.

Sad, uplifting and joyous this is a glorious book. It's sure to make you believe in happy ever after.

This book was simply delightful. Admittedly I found it a bit slow to start but it was a lovely book that I truly recommend.

Anna’s husband Spencer died almost 3 years ago and since then she has just been existing, unable to come to terms with her loss and her grief she is just about managing to her through every day. Her best friend Gabi keeps making attempts to kick-start her life again and while deep down she appreciates the efforts, Anna is just not ready. After a particularly hard and disastrous New Years Eve, Anna calls Spencer’s mobile so she can get comfort from hearing his voice on the recorded message. She is shocked when the call is answered by an actual person - a man named Brody.

Over the next few months, Anna continue tally calls the mobile number and sounds off to Brody who listens to her. He too has experienced loss and gives her helpful advice to guide her through her grief. However, Brody himself has secrets and worries.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review.
I really enjoyed reading this wonderful story. Despite the sad histories behind the two main characters Brody and Anna, which were narrated with such sensitivity, this book was full of hope, love, forgiveness and the act of moving on.
Have to admit I did have a few tears.

An emotional read.

Since Anna lost her husband she has struggling to move on. At a low point she phones his mobile as she just want to hear his voice on the recording. She is shocked when someone answers and although she knows it isn't Spencer could it be a sign.
Unknowingly she has connected with Brody, who is also struggling with a loss and it has hit him in a different way. Can they help each other get through this?

A great read.

Anna and Brody were both believable characters but I found this book to be such a slow starter. . It did develop into a very emotional read and worth four stars

An emotional book about loss and grief.

Anna lost her husband 3 years ago and has struggled ever since. On New Year’s Eve she calls his phone to listen to his voicemail and someone answers...
Will he be able to help her move on?

Beautifully written a story about loss and second chances. Made me cry.

It's been a couple of years since Anna's husband Spencer was killed by a drunk driver and she can't get over the loss. When she is at her lowest she phones his mobile number to listen to his voice on voicemail and somebody answers it. Brody answers the phone and he understands how she feels. Their phone calls become more frequent as they help each other through their difficulties.

This is a book about loss, friendship, mental health issues, grief, love, hope and new beginnings. It's not as sad as I thought it would be but a nice heart warming story.

The characters are well written and I really felt empathy for both of them.

Overall I enjoyed it, a nice read to end this year with.

Thank you to Netgalley and HQ for the ARC

Oh my goodness this book had me crying in places

This is about Anna who lost her husband Spencer to a drunk driver. When she is at her lowest she decides to phone his old number but someone answers it. Over the next few months she will phone the number and speak to the man at the end of the phone , he seems to help her a great deal over the next few months. His name is Brody and also Anna helps him overcome his anxieties as well.

Really enjoyable book.

A book about grief, a loved one ripped out of life by a careless drunk driver. An unexpected stranger whilst ringing the old mobile number just to hear their voice. Doesn't sound like a joyful inspiring story but it is. The frailty and resilience of human nature. The differing ways we react to loss. Follow Anna's story as she comes to terms with her new and unwanted circumstances. It will make your heart ache and swell with pride and love.

A beautiful book about loss and grief. Lovely writing, charming in its complete and utter britishness. Certain tropes like the loud, unlucky-in-love friend felt a little tired but are often necessary in stories like this. Does take you on a journey, although at times I found it hard to believe that the characters really were not aware of certain things (other people’s/their own feelings, or even situations)

After she tragically loses her husband, Spencer, Anna is counting the years, months, days since she lost him. After phoning his mobile, she hears a voice. Heartbreaking and emotional, a moving story about dealing with loss and grief.

So powerful and beautifully written. Often was reading through tears. Brody, the voice at the end of a phone, is going through his own personal torment and anxiety and a friendship blossoms. Anna finds it easier to talk to a stranger. Brody understands what she's going through when all her friends just want her to move on. This will stay with me for a long time.

I absolutely loved this story and was very quick to recommend to friends. I fell in love with Brodie and his back story. It would be wonderful to have a sequel

How can you move on if you can’t let go?

Anna has been grieving for two years, nine months and eight days, ever since the love of her life, Spencer, was cruelly taken from her in a tragic accident and she is struggling to let go, she still visits his parents for Sunday lunch every fortnight, looks through photo albums of Spencer, with his mum Gayle and calls his phone just to listen to his voicemail message. Tonight is New Years Eve and her best friend Gabi is dragging her to a party, Anna would rather curl up under her duvet but Gabi has been her rock throughout, trying to get her to do new things, to help her move on and 'live' again, introducing her to men but Anna's 'not Spencer' alarm always intervenes. At the end of another such event she's back home, dialling Spencer's number, just one last time she says, just to hear his voice, but someone answers...

Spencer's old number has been inherited by Brody and she finds herself sharing her woes with him, he's the first person she's been able to talk to that seems to understand how she feels, it would appear he's experienced a loss too, but doesn't elaborate on the details with Anna. They continue to call each other, gradually opening up to one another, could this be what's needed to help them both move on with their lives, or could Brody's secret, when it's revealed, threaten what they've built so far?

The Last Goodbye is a beautifully written poignant tale of love, loss, grief, family, friendship and mental health issues, bringing two people from different walks of life together and forming an alliance through their suffering. Everything about this book is authentic; the concept, the characters, the grief and the guilt. I felt every bit of Anna and Brody's grief whilst reading this book, I fell in love with both of them and was desperate to see them happy again, hopefully with each other! This is the first I've read by this author but certainly won't be the last.

I'd like to thank HQ and Netgalley for the approval, I will post my review on Amazon and Goodreads.

Get the tissues at the ready for this one.
A tale of love and loss, moving on, new friends and relationships and hope after all seems lost.

Three years ago, Anna’s life was torn apart when she lost her husband. On New Years Eve she calls his number for the comfort of his voice on the voicemail, but this time someone answers. Will this person be the one to help her turn her life around, and will she inadvertently help him too.

This story deals with grief and may be a tough read for anyone going through a loss. It is however filled with hope and second chances but is very true to life about the struggles a person may endure.
It is beautifully written and the author doesn’t just gloss over the serious issues, the book isn’t just about happy endings and new found love.
I was held captivated from the lovely cover through to the last page.
I would definitely read more from this author.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and most importantly the author, for the chance to read this book, in exchange for an honest review.

The Last Goodbye follows the developing relationship of Anna and Brody as they help each other navigate their way through grief.

Both characters in this story are very likeable so you warm to them from the off even though you realise that Brody is hiding a secret.

Although a good story line, for me the first half of this book was just too drawn out and came across as a bit slow. However, I would give a different book by Fiona Lucas a go for sure!

The Last Goodbye by Fiona Lucas is a heartbreaking tale of grief and survival and stacked with, what feels like, true raw emotion.

Loss, family and friendship are key themes throughout as Anna, the main protagonist, is forced to come to terms with her new life as a widower. The main focus of this novel is of the heartache felt after a spouse's death and the way in which it changes the people who are around.

I personally found the pace quite slow but this, I am sure, is just refection of the different ways in which people go through grief. Fiona Lucas has carefully crafted the perfect description of how the loss of a loved one is felt and how acceptance is finally reached. It is beautifully written and had me reaching for many a tissue.

If you enjoy the work of Jojo Moyes or Cecelia Ahern, then Fiona Lucas' work is an excellent addition to the TBR pile!

Honest review given in exchange for an Advanced Reader's Copy via Netgalley.

When I first started reading this book I didn’t really think it was my kind of thing. But as the book went on I got more and more into it. At times this book left me frustrated but I am glad of the ending. It’s all about heartache and what it’s like to loose someone and trying to move on
