Aside from seeing Clayton act more like a parent to his sisters than Sylvia to her son, this book was fun. It's a lot about Sylvia finding herself after a terrible marriage, finding a partner in Clayton. And yes, all of Clayton's sisters were fun.

Christie Caldwell is one of my all time favorite authors. I have loved 99% of what she has written. That being said I struggled so hard to get through this story. I just couldn't get into. He characters are ridiculous. There is so many extremes and unnecesaary insanity. And the amount of different things going on at one time, i just cant keep track of it all. . I'm going to put it aside for now and come back at a later date. Maybe I'll be able to engage then.

Someone Wanton His Way Comes (Wantons of Waverton #1). By Christi Caldwell. 2021. Montlake (ARC eBook).

I really enjoy reading books by this author and Someone Wanton His Way Comes was no different. I adored Clayton and Sylvia as individuals and together. The plot is a carryover from the Lost Lords of London series, and sees to a satisfactory resolution. The side characters of Clayton’s mother and sisters, Sylvia’s family and those that remain as members of the Mismatch Society were great additions. I look forward to the rest of the series.

This book was just okay for me. So much of the book was spent on the MCs' inner musing of why they cant't marry/fall in love. It really de-valued the romance aspect of novel for me. I also think story referenced too many events that occurred in previous books that I haven't read. I just think this should have been more of a standalone.

I will say that I do appreciate a novel that celebrates strong women who are championing for more rights but do you really have to make them so hateful against men and marriage!? And how about the one "strong" woman who was basically an alcoholic. Yikes.

I have not read anything by Ms. Caldwell before, so this was my first experience with her books. It was an entertaining read, definitely good for a good escape. It is the first book of the series. Sylvia, a widow who learns of her dead husband's lies and infidelity, starts a group for equally scorned women called the Mismatch Society and sets out to sabotage the marriage mart. It is up to Clayton, who is her deceased husband's best friend and also cares deeply for her (unbeknownst to Sylvia), to put a stop to all the mayhem. He feels responsible for her pain since although he was himself was in love with Sylvia, he was the one who pushed his friend in her direction, not thinking himself worthy of her. It is now up to him to show her true love and how happy she can be with it in her life. This was a good second chance story of sorts and I found it to be quite entertaining. An interesting start to the series.

I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

With such a sexy book cover, you would automatically expect the contents to be likewise, but alas, that was not quite so. I was sadly disappointed by Clayton’s character, I thought he was a bit too, mmm, wussy, it was more like him being led through his nose by the ladies, and that didn’t sit well with me. Okay, I admit it, there were some sizzling areas, but I still believe Clayton could have been a bit more confident.

Thanks to the publisher, author and Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I always love this author’s books and this first book in the series is no exception. Sylvia and Clayton have a somewhat complicated history. He was the asked by her cheating now dead husband to look after her and, because of his feelings for her, had to leave her alone. Sylvia’s heartbreak over her faithless husband has turned into hatred of marriage and a need to maintain her independence.

This love story is touching and angsty - I love the way these two figure out how they feel about each other. There’s also a little intrigue and the other characters of the Mismatch Society are very interesting, I’m looking forward to finding out who will find their match next!

I really loved this but not because of the two main characters. Sylvia was ok but not a stand out as a heroine. She’s widowed and has no plans to marry again. Then there is Clayton…….who is just a cinnamon roll hero. He was Sylvia’s husbands best friend but he’s not a rogue or a scoundrel. He’s just a good guy who absolutely adores his family. His family, I also adored. I could have just read about Clayton and his sisters. Sylvia and Clayton together was just kinda meh but because of her. I just didn’t warm up to her but thought he was adorable. That’s why this didn’t quite make it to five stars because of Sylvia. Otherwise, I enjoyed this very much.

Clayton has always been a noble gentleman but faced with a family curse where he believes he will die young. He sets up the woman he loves with his best friend. Tragedy strikes after the discovery that his friend Lord Norfolk is a rogue and he dies. Now a new society is scandalizing the ton The Mismatch society encouraging women to stand up for their rights and also avoid marriage. With several sisters and his mother involved he is shocked to discover the wanton in charge is none other than Sylvi. Will she remain a single widow, can he persuade her that some men look for an equal? This is a sweet story looking at the roles of women and men in society as well as finding love. A light easy read

Enjoyed this story about the unconventional group of women who formed the Mismatch Society - a group of women committed to avoiding being trapped in marriage. Little does Sylvia, the widowed founder, know that love awaits her with her old friend Clayton.

This is the first in a new series, though it seems to be a spinoff of another series, so I was a little lost in the beginning.

I was interested in Sylvia and Clayton's story and their connection and energy, but the pace of the story was really slow. Clayton has loved Sylvia for years but never acted on his feelings. Throughout the story, he continues to resist his feelings. Sylvia is a strong character, living her own life, like she wants to.

The story was a bit confusing for me, I would recommend reading earlier series.

Thank you for the early copy - unfortunately this one just didn't click with me and I had to put it in my DNF pile.

I do love Christi Caldwell books normally so I'm going to give this one another try at a later date.

I appreciate the chance to get my hands on it pre-release and am sorry it didn't pan out for me.

This book just didn't work for me. The Mismatched Society was ridiculous. Not wanting to marry the person you love because you think you might die one day...ridiculous. There was so much thrown in to this story yet nothing was happening.

They had me at the clever title!!! I loved the story of Clayton and Sylvia. He thinks he~s cursed to die young and closes himself off... She~s been through enough with her first marriage that prompts her to want to help other women not to go through the same thing. I was so sad at first, since I had a bad first marriage too. I remarried, happily, and so I was rooting for a HEA. Well-written start to the series. Can~t wait to see what~s next!

Clayton's friend asked him to look after his wife, Sylvia because he's gonna ran away with his lover even though he knew his wife was pregnant. But then he died. Sylvia decided to move in with the unwed women who were shunned by the society or something. Then Clayton's betrothed came to Sylvia for help as he wasn't interested in her even though they're engaged blah blah blah.

What's wrong with Sylvie? She invited the woman her hubby was gonna ran away with to move in with her? Generous much? Note the sarcasm, Then, Clayton's family went of arguing about who's gonna marry first. Mind you it's Clayton's mother and sisters. Yep. The mother also wanna marry. I'm out. I thought this was gonna be interesting. The synopsis caught my interest. But.... Instead of helping women to stand up for themselves, Sylvia was actually went full on about how they didn't need men blah blah blah... Ughhhhhhh...

I had a difficult time with this book, it started slow, I couldn’t connect with the characters. It didn’t seem realistic to me how progressive the women were portrayed to be. Women just living together, deciding to start a society of women who don’t want to get married. The main characters also just had casual sex encounters with no internal dialogue about how they felt about the experiences. For someone who was inexperienced in pleasurable sex/foreplay the heroine was confident and very casual about it. I didn’t get the passionate love feels from this book sadly. Not certain I will continue with the series. It was just an ok book, not one I’d re read.

I really enjoyed this story. Sylvia was a great female lead - independent, smart & opinionated (especially for this time period). Clayton has loved her from afar and I enjoyed watching their relationship shift from friendship to more. Their chemistry definitely deserves a mention! Round out the story with his crazy family and I loved it. Definitely recommend.
