This adorable little installment of the Poppy & Sam series is the perfect beginner's graphic novel. It's filled with colorful and perfectly autumnal illustrations. Poppy is having trouble sleeping so Sam goes on a quest with her to find the solution to Poppy's insomnia.

Overall, this is really cute picture book - the illustrations are adorable and very appropriate for fall shelves! Poppy and Sam are getting ready to hibernate for the winter, but Poppy can't fall asleep! So they visit their friends in the garden for ideas on how to fall asleep. My favorite part is when they visit ants for a bedtime story and only find the dictionary!

My biggest problem with this book is that Sam, a panda, is getting ready to hibernate, but pandas do NOT hibernate. I think it would have been easy to swap out for another animal. It is a silly book that I think would make a fun bedtime story for preschoolers. Thank you NetGalley for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.

The first filter in the selection of books for children is made by the parents (guardians). Therefore, it is important to choose quality content and inspirational stories. On the other hand, books greatly facilitate the process of learning and explaining new concepts and terms through the use of appropriate language structures and images that not only stimulate children's imagination, but also help them to understand certain contents more easily.
Poppy and Sam and the Search for Sleep by Cathon is definitely a book that deserves to be considered and chosen as a great addition to the family library.
The first thing that attracts you to this picture book is the beautiful cover page, as well as the cute characters: Poppy and. Easy to read, with interesting content,that not only will surely interest your child and encourage an avalanche of thoughts and conclusions, but it will take your children on a nice adventure. Cute illustrations greatly reflect the content and serve as a great tool to make the whole story easier to understand.
What makes this picture book a great choice for any family with children is the interesting way in which the author introduces the term hibernation, using cute scenes, the author helps children to fully understand the meaning of this term, as well as which animals spend the winter in hibernation(What I do not like about it is that some of the facts stated are not entirely accurate.). My daughter was very worried that the poor animals will be very hungry if they slept that much.
Not only will they be introduced to new terms, but they will also find out more about wildlife and animals in general,as well as the meaning of the seasons and the changes that follow each season.
Lastly, the readers will find several strategies skillfully embedded into the story, that will help your child to fall asleep easier at night, such as counting, lullabies or reading goodnight stories.
Definitely a great picture book that will spark your child's interest and allow you a wonderful escape into the world of fantasy. My daughter was really excited, and after we finished it, she was full of her own observations and ideas about hibernation, a word she still does not know how to pronounce correctly, but understands the meaning. And that in the end she decided to send our cat to sleep all winter is just an additional funny moment for our whole family. Definitely a book that I highly recommend to all families with young children.

Cute story and illustrations. Introduces the idea of hibernation and which animals hibernate, although there are very few details. The book could serve as an opening to talk with your child about what to do when they have trouble falling asleep.

This has got to be one of the sweetest books I've had the pleasure of seeing in a while. The illustrations are simply adorable. This book should definitely become a favorite among preschool and kindergarten aged children.

This was a very cute book. The story flowed well and was engaging. I could see our little readers wondering if Poppy and Sam will ever get to sleep. I enjoyed learning about the miniature workings of the world around us.

Sam and Poppy are preparing to hibernate. But once they've gathered their supplies and settled in, Poppy finds that she can't sleep. Told in comic panels, Sam and Poppy wander the forest asking other animals for advice on falling asleep. Overall a cute story to share with the little ones in your life.

Poppy and Sam and the Search for Sleep is a fabulous children’s story. I love the mix of informative information with elements of the fantastical--talking animals. Wonderfully and beautifully illustrated. It also provides some practical ideas for when little may be struggling to get to sleep. Quite enjoyable for kiddos and would make a wonderful read along.

Ahhh! This was so cute! My daughter loved the first one so much, that when I saw there was another I knew we had to read it together right away! She said the lullaby was the best part, she was cracking up. The art is adorable, and there’s not too much text for a new reader, but we all enjoyed it together

What a precious book! The illustrations were so sweet and detailed. Young readers will love meeting all the different creatures and will smile at the ending when Sam and Poppy finally get to sleep just when they stop trying.

Such a beautiful enjoyable story! I really liked this book as it was very bright and colourful with beautiful illustrations. There were so many lovely illustrations in each page that we sat and talked about. We were able to discuss and talk about the different autumnal objects we could see on each page and made a game of counting how many of each object we could see. The text was short and simple so perfect for very young children To understand. My 1 and 6 year old both enjoyed it as much as each other as their older brother age 8 read it to them! We all really enjoyed everything about this book and have already read it twice!

This was a story about Poppy and Sam who are in the final stages of gathering for hibernation. As the two friends settle in, they find sleep doesn't come so easily. They visit other forest friends for bedtime advice and it turns out that these friends all hibernate also. I actually learned something new from this book as well!

Together, they consult other animals who sleep too. Each offers advice that doesn't work. Eventually, they find animals (mice) who don't hibernate and join them. No surprise that both finally fall asleep.
This is book three in this series. Cathon's illustrations are detailed and capture the joy and friendship as well as the humor in this situation. Readers will love the characters and certainly relate to not being able to fall asleep.

With four grandchildren, two of them aged 4 1/2 , I’m always looking for cute bedtime stories. This one unfortunately fell short for me.

Poppy is a little girl and Sam is a Panda. Poppy can’t sleep and she asks her friend Sam how he gets to sleep when he hibernates? When his suggestions, including singing her a lullaby don’t work they ask their friends in the garden. They ask the bees, the ants and the mice what they do all winter. Finally they fall asleep together while visiting the mice.

I have all sorts of problems with this book because of incorrect messages to children. First off, Pandas (not really bears) do not hibernate. Also, only some bees hibernate, honey bees which they show in the book, do not hibernate they remain active and actually eat some of the honey that they make during the summer months and may come out to forage during warm winter days.

The drawings are cute enough but nothing very special.

I can’t really recommend this book because of the incorrect messages about these animals and insects. Even the littlest child should learn the real facts about animals, even in bedtime stories.

This was such a delightful story with beatiful illustration! I loved the facial expressions so much!

And besides being a cute story it also teaches children about small forest animals and what they do during winter. I really loved that the ants read books before sleeping :D

I enjoyed this short book very much and if it is ever translated to Hungarian I will by it to my little nephew.
