The Jigsaw Man by Nadine Matheson is a fast-paced gruesome thriller that I really enjoyed, and I hope there is a sequel as the author has left a cliff hanger at the end of the story. So, I am keen to find out what happens.
DI Anjelica Henley has just come back from leave after bringing the serial killer known as The Jigsaw man Peter Oliver to justice of his crimes. He kills and chops up his victims and leaves their body parts all-over South-East London DI Henley is investigator of the SCU. When her first case back is a serial killer with the same M.O as the jigsaw man. But it can’t be him as he is locked up in Belmarsh Prison. There must be a copy kat killer on the loose. But when DI Henley visits him in prison to see if he has told anyone of his exploits, Peter Oliver is not happy with the copy kat killers’ workmanship and somehow escapes to hunt the killer down.
Thank you, HQ, for a copy of The Jigsaw man. I really enjoyed these dark police procedural from Nadine Matheson and I hope this story continues. I have heard this is a debut novel which before I realised, I would have thought the writing is from more accomplished writer. The story is slow at first due to the back story of the characters but the second half it became fast paced, great storyline and plot. But a very gruesome one. Some if you don’t like that type of book this maybe not for you. But I think it makes the story more thrilling.

A tale of about a serial killer and a copycat engaging in a dangerous game..
This began as a really captivating story, however, the characters are unlikeable., the Copycat is revealed before the end of the story, and many of the loose ends aren't 'tied up' at the end of story.
This is an average book that does not encourage the reader to think or use their imagination, rather, 'it spells everything out', which may be why it is unnecessarily long.

An intriguing debut from Nadine Matheson introduces DI Anjelica Henley and her team at the SCU in London.

When body parts start being found all over London, you almost expect another standard sort of serial killer thriller but this is not the case as Nadine Matheson cleverly brings a new twist to what can at times be a tired genre.

The killing appears to be copycat killings of a serial killer who is locked up behind bars. But the killings are personal to the killer so how can the copycat know?

With a troubled detective, an interesting sidekick with a little about him which I I liked in Trainee Ramouter along with a strong backing cast, Matheson has created a team that garners interest along with a suitably devious and deranged antagonist in this well crafted and genuinely decent police procedural.

A book that feels far more assured than a debut, it also even reads like a part of a series rather than book 1, suggesting that a prequel will be coming along at some point.

Fast Paced enough to keep you turning, with sharp short chapters, this an excellent first foray into crime writing by Nadine Mathseon.

Having been desk bound at work for the last few months, DI Henley is given a case that bears all the hallmarks of a serial killer nicknamed The Jigsaw Man, Peter Olivier. However, Olivier is now a convicted killer, thanks to DI Henley. So is this a copycat?

What follows is a definite cat-and-mouse story as Henley and her new trainee sidekick Ramouter journey around the Greenwich area of London chasing a rather gruesome killer, whilst trying to figure out his motives, his connection to the original Jigsaw Man, and who may be next on his seemingly erratic list of victims.

It’s a bit grisly but that sort of goes with the territory given the subject of the book. However, it’s entertaining and well paced, with very likeable - if a little bit flawed - characters. A great debut and I look forward to hearing more tales of Greenwich, Henley and Ramouter.

The amount of detail that went in to crafting this story is incredible. I was a little surprised at first that we got to learn so much about the original case and killer, but after the first few chapters I was grateful for the back-story.

Whilst it shouldn't be a 'thing' to point out, I was delighted to gradually find out that the main detective and her family were POC. Especially with the BLM protests and a general spotlight on BAME characters, it made me fall in love with Henley's character even more. We need more writers to normalise strong black female characters in positions of power.

With excellent personal touches that really make you feel for everyone involved, it was very immersive and easy to lose myself in.

A serial killer on the lose with a grisly MO is not new territory. However, Matheson's evocation of location - the less salubrious along the Thames, brings this to life. Again, her main character, the damaged cop with complicated home life is something we've all read before but DI Anjelica Henley is a fully realised character, not a motif. Will definitely read more by Matheson.

Well this was a right rollercoaster of a thriller. It was quite graphic in places so I’d avoid if you have a weak stomach. There were a lot of characters to keep track of but once you get your head around that it was a really good read that ramped up at the end. I’d give it 4⭐️ and am wondering if we’ll hear more from DI Henley... I’d definitely read some more!

This book starts when DI Henley is called investigate body parts that have been found along the River Thames. The murders lead Henley to confront serial killer Peter Olivier, who is in prison for life, as the murders appear to be a copy of the murders her committed several years ago. During the book Henley has to confront her own demons in order to catch the killer.

I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down. The plot was full of so many unexpected twists and turns which I loved and this also made the plot very fast paced. I found I was desperate to identify the killer and was lead to suspect everyone, I was very happy that the ending was not predictable. I also liked DI Henley's character and how she was portrayed as a strong female lead regardless of her vulnerabilities.

Some parts of this book are quite graphic and gory which in my opinion added to the plot and the severity of the murders.

I liked Matheson's writing style and would be more than happy to read other books written by her, as well as a sequel to The Jigsaw Man! I definitely recommend this book for those who love a good crime thriller.

I loved DI Henley and all her colleagues even though I would have liked to know more about their backstory - I did not like her husband at all and I was really happy that he wasn’t a very central character to the story. Olivier was also a really interesting character and I really enjoyed how the author characterised him. It did feel at times as if this was the 2nd novel & not a debut!

I loved the plot! I was constantly on the edge of my seat, trying to read as quick as possible to turn the page and try and find out what would happen next. I was always trying to figure out who the killer was and what ticked him to kill the victims.

Superb!! Gory in some places but it had to be, had me hooked I can tell you!! So much detail in everything, and with everyone involved!! The story has you terrified, anxious, but you just can't put the book down, you want to..... you have to know what happens next!!
If this is the Authors (Nadine Mathewson) first book, well I can't wait for the next one!! I hope she makes this a series, it needs to be!!

The Jigsaw Man is a strong crime debut from Nadine Matheson.

It reads like it's at least the second in a crime series, but is actually the first - which could throw some readers. There are frequent references to the crimes that got Jigsaw Man jailed, but you need to accept they happened off-page and you'll learn more about them as time goes on.

I really enjoyed the main characters DI Angelica Henley and her trainee Ramouters, and I'd like to see more of them again. Henley has a bit of edge and isn't always likeable, but I don't mind that. I did wonder how she ever planned to see her family around her police work though (but isn't that always the case?).

The crimes/mystery are both intriguing and gory (I'm a wimp, I prefer less gore and more intrigue, but that's on me) and kept me interested until the end.

This book is about a series of murders , some of these took place a couple of years ago and the murderer is in prison, now there is a copycat murderer who uses similar methods. It is being investigated by the CSU, a team located in a closed police station. The main detective is Anjelica who is working with a trainee and a small team. The team know each other well. Anjelica had a run in with the original jig-saw murderer during the case which has left her with PTSS . The book explained this , revealing information as the story progressed, which made the book quite long. I was wondering why the previous events were not in a separate book at first, but as the story went on, this made more sense.
I did not like Anjelica much at first. The relationship with her husband is strained and I could completely understand why , but as I got further into the book,and her vunerability is revealed, I came to like her better, though she could be somewhat hot headed and did not always think her actions through.
The plot seems quite muddled in the first chapters but is quite well thought out, though rather gristly, definitely not a book for you if you are blood phobic ! I thought that the personal realationship information could have been handled better. Some parts seemed to be added in places as an afterthought . All in all, I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more from this author and about this detective.

Fantastic page turner. I was gripped from the start.

As body parts start being washed up along the Thames DI Henley is reminded of notorious serial killer The Jigsaw Man, Peter Olivier. The man that had her fighting for her life and only just returning to duty. But Olivier is sitting behind bars with a full life sentence for the horrendous crimes he committed. Is there a copycat at work or is something more sinister going on? Henley now has a race against time to solve the murders and work out the motive.

With tangled personal lives, back stories and twists and turns this made for an exciting read that I loved. Here's hoping it's not the last that we see of Henley and the team.

Dark and twisted and I loved it.

I was hooked straight away by this book straight away and even though it is slightly scary I couldn’t put it down.

It is well written and well plotted and the characters are developed perfectly.

This was a very good thriller although at times it was gory in its descriptions it didn’t put me off. This a the first time I’ve read any of this author’s books and I look forward to reading more. I know the area in which this book is set very well and I could picture the places mentioned. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Gritty police thriller,fast paced and full of surprises. Good ,realistic characters especially the detectives.

When I started reading this book I thought I wasn’t going to enjoy it but I’ve never been more happy to be proven wrong! Once I got into this book I was hooked. The plot is really cleverly plotted with all storylines weaving together perfectly. The story is really well paced but really picks up pace in the last quarter and will have your heart pounding right to the end. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book quite so chilling and violent. This book is a seriously dark, gritty and sadistic crime novel that felt all too scarily real! This is a really impressive debut novel and I can’t wait for the next one...

I can sum up this book in 6 words.....brilliant, gruesome, captivating, thrilling, unputdownable, gripping. I literally could not put this book down and was hooked from the very first page. The characters were brilliantly written , so much so that I could easily imagine them in my head. I enjoyed it so much that I didn't want it to finish and I'm really looking forward to reading more by this author. Move over Hannibal Lecter and make room for Olivier.

What an excellent book and a must read for 2021. It reminded me in a lot of ways of Silence of The Lambs (which is no bad thing).
The team of detectives are excellent each with their particular stories that they bring into play and that adds to the story.
This really is an excellent book and if I write much it really will give the game away but a must read of 2021

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book- grown up style and content, a story of obsession, guilt, revenge and trauma. I wasn'r sure I liked Henley at first, but I felt some sympathy for her at the end of the book.
