Loved this book!

Thoughtful, heartfelt and all about the love of books!

I love that the characters are so well-rounded and the entire narrative is so relatable. Looking for more from Elizabeth Green and her lovely characters.

This book was unlike anything I've ever read. The layout takes quite a bit of getting used to, but once you've settled in with that, the story truly shines.

This is the first book I have read that was written through emails, journal entries, online reviews, texts, and tweets. Definitely a different approach to writing and one that I liked! Fawn was a very likable, quirky and eccentric character who ran the local bookstore. One day another bookstore opens down the street that sends Fawn and her store in to a downward spiral.
The author does a very good job of making the characters and storyline believable. This is her debut novel but I look forward to reading more from Green.

This book was frustrating. The main character was I think an attempt at a comedic heroine but she was so unlikable that I truly had to force myself to finish the book.

Where to start?!
Fawn is quite an eccentric character. Told from emails to and from Fawn, Fawn’s diary, and other publications. The reader learns about Fawn through her correspondence with her staff, family, friends, and enemies. Which I always think it’s fun to read someone’s diary in a book.
Fawn is definitely a “Karen,” but it was fun to see her antics since no one was really getting hurt. She is the opposite of Kathleen Kelly from You’ve Got Mail.
Fawn is a flawed character, constantly lying, self-centered, and completely unaware of herself and how her words/actions affect others. She did care about her employees but didn’t know how to show it.
I kept waiting for some sense of self-discovery or awareness and by the end Fawn had only a few degrees of improvement but I was disappointed there was no “Aha” moment for her. There was a lot of potential for Fawn and I feel it fell short in her character development.

Thank you for providing me a copy of this book.
I run out of time so sorry I wasn't able to finish this.

While I love the cover and was looking forward to read the story as the description promised a great time reading, I couldn’t wrap my head around it and had to stop reading after several tries.

Thanks to the publisher for my review copy

I had such high hopes for Confessions of a Curious Bookseller. As a lover of You’ve Got Mail, this novel about a bookstore owner and her failing shop, described as “uproariously funny,” sounded like something I would really enjoy. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The protagonist was so unlikeable and annoying that I seriously considered stopping several times. I honestly didn’t see any humor in this story, but rather a sad, disillusioned woman in need of therapy. Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for gifting me this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Oh hell, is this whole book written out in emails? The bookseller is named Fawn and all she seems to do is whine. I kept waiting for the humor to appear, still waiting. All in all the book is just Meh, i have nothing good to say.

I really loved the premise of the book, and LOVED the format of letters between all of the quirky employees of Fawn's bookstore. I think I would've loved the book more though, as a whole, if Fawn was less whiny and annoying. I couldn't help but think, "Gosh, I'm so glad she isn't my boss." I thought her eccentricity was kind of funny in the beginning, but then it just started to get irritating. The book is entertaining, though, and I thought the ending was a delight. I just wish Fawn were a more likeable protagonist, because the other characters were interesting and I enjoyed the back and forth about the new competition.

I simply devoured this book, I loved Fawn and her quirky ways and the characters she meets. The writing style was so much fun ~ it’s made up of diary entries, emails, texts, online reviews ~ it really allowed me to get lost in the story and go on Fawn’s journey with her.
Fawn felt like a long lost relative by the end!
Thank you to Netgallery for allowing me to read this amazing book!

I am not actually reviewing it because I haven't read it. The whole book is in the form of diary entries and letters and emails and it was nowhere mentioned before requesting the book. It was written in one line but I thought there will be a few of them in the middle of the story. Letter and emails are not the types of format I enjoy so I haven't read beyond 1 letter.
I have not given any star rating to this book. It is compulsory to rate at least 1 star on NetGalley to post the review so that's why it is showing a 1-star rating.

Elizabeth Green’s Confessions of a Curious Bookseller keeps you smirking and smiling. Fern, the bookshop owner, communicates through a series of emails, letters and journal entries to develop her story. She is passive-aggressive and many times clueless, but has a good heart. I just wanted to go into her store and talk to her directly!

This book was definitely heartwarming but in a different way that the layout of the book can either add to its merits or be a bit difficult for normal romance readers to digest. The writing style is unique and this is definitely the type of book that can be classified as a Beach read or a Vacation read, since there is not much info-dumping and you're sucked into the world of this meddlesome bookseller and some other person's life. The book is short, it's sweet, its characters are not that complicated but still remain more than two-dimensional, which I appreciate.

This is my first fully epistolary novel and I love the premise of it. Owning a secondhand bookshop is a dream of mine so I thoroughly enjoyed Fawns business trials and tribulations.
Unfortunately (and I’m not sure if it’s due to the epistolary narration) I found Fawn hard to connect with and quite unlikeable in some parts. I also found myself wanting to know more about some of the interactions and backstories of relationships.
Whilst the storyline is great I think unfortunately, epistolary novels perhaps aren’t for me and I prefer a more detailed narration.

I feel the title was slightly misleading here, I was expecting something totally different and to be frank, I didn’t really enjoy it.

The protagonist is an older lady who runs a bookshop in Philadelphia when a rival bookshop opens across the street (MAJOR You’ve Got Mail vibes!). Cue crazy, sometimes drunken emails and tweets and blog posts from said protagonist.

It was all just strange and I didn’t find the storyline or the main character quirky or endearing at all.

I really did not enjoy this book as much as I’d hoped. The main character was so disagreeable and whined throughout the entire story. I do have to say the ending surprised me, especially taking into account the main character and her way of looking at life. I kept hoping that this would get better, but alas, it was not to be. I’m sure there are some who will find this a delightful read. You won’t find me among them.

🔅Plot🔅
Story revolves around a bookstore owner selling used books in West Philadelphia. Her thoughts about the life she lives, her emotional attachment with her employees, her love for cats, her reaction to the arrival of competition; everything you will get to know through this epistolary novel.
.
🔅My Review🔅
I was first afraid pf the thought to start my reading year with a new author. But the moment my eyes saw Confessions of a Curious Bookseller, I knew I’m going to read it first while leaving everything behind. And I’m super glad I did it!
I LOVED IT!! I love the way it begins with a job posting (OMG I so wanna get this job 🤩). And the way the author slowly built up the characters is the part where you fall in love with them.
Story depicts the comical side of Fawn Birchill; the main character which makes the book a lighter and laughable read.
Another best thing about the book is how it beautifully expresses the feelings of classic bookshops owners. I completely agree with the author when she says that people never write good reviews but bad ones? The bad ones, sadly, come up within seconds. Which is a fact!💔
Also, the flow-y writing style and befitting vocabulary makes a good read per say.
.
So if you are looking for something of a mix of emotion and hilarity, Confessions of a Curious Bookseller is the best choice to make. 😊

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC copy of this novel.

Told through a series of emails, letters, blog posts and tweets but this way of storytelling made it hard to like and/or connect with any of the characters. For me, in the end, there was just something missing from the story.
