The Therapist by B A Paris
This is the first B A Paris novel which I have read and I am afraid I did not find myself convinced by the characters. I could not believe that Alice could allow herself to move into the gated community which Leo had chosen without finding out a little more about it and its inhabitants.
It also seemed a very odd location for Leo to have chosen if he was so keen to keep his history a secret. The fact that everyone in the small community seems to be in close contact attending coffee mornings, going to yoga and yet knew nothing about what was going on in the close failed to convince me. I found Alice’s inability to move on from her family tragedy a little unbelievable and the coincidence of the murder victim having the same name as her dead sister was a bridge too far.
The central section of the novel seemed to stagnate and although I continued to the end I did not find myself gripped and desperate to find out how the mystery was resolved. I found Alice’s motivations hard to understand and therefore would not really recommend the novel. I will however try other novels by the author as I know many reviewers write in praise of other novels. I absolutely loved this book. I have read previous books by this author and this one is just as good, if not better. Right from the start you get drawn in to the story and need to find out what will happen. I finished the book in a couple of sittings and will admit to staying up late to finish as I really couldn’t put it down. I really enjoy the author’s style of writing and the story flows well with a believable plot. I can’t recommend this book enough! Thank you #netgalley

I really enjoyed this and was made up to be reading another B.A Paris book. I sped through this book as I couldn't put it down, I just had to get to the end to figure everything out.
Alice and Leo haven't been dating that long, but the move into a house together in a gated community. It seems like a perfect and safe place to live, until Alice finds out that a previous owner was murdered in her bedroom in the house. This makes Alice become a bit obsessed with what happened to Nina and she is determined to get to the bottom of it. Her neighbours don't appear to be quite as they seem, even though they have been very welcoming of her. She starts to suspect everyone and doesn't know who she should trust or not.
This book kept me gripped throughout, I would have liked a little bit more to have happened, but I did really enjoy this book and I can't wait to read more from B.A Paris.

I found this to be more of a domestic thriller than a psychoogical one. Alice and Leo have found their ideal home in the gated community, The Circle. The perfect place to feel safe and secure with lovely neighbours. But Alice learns a dark secret about the former owner and is desperate to find out more. This is a story of secrets, lies and obession. It's told over two timelines, the past and present day. t's full of twists but i did guess who the perpeprator was. The characters are both likeable and unlikeable.

I’ve read this all day and it’s now almost 1am. I simply couldn’t put it down. Fast paced, exciting, everything you’ve come to expect from this fantastic author. My heart is still thumping fast!!

Alice and Leo have survived the troubles that come with a long-distance relationship and are now ready to make a home, together. Leo finds them the perfect house, situated in London for convenience but within a gated community for safety. The other eleven houses, inside this closed community, share book clubs, coffee mornings, BBQs, and yoga workouts. Alice longs to immerse herself in their lifestyle but Leo seems more reticent. Their dream home could also come with the dream life and a new friendship group, if only they were willing to reach for it. Alice may be too eager to snatch at it but Leo's withdrawal is even more concerning. Just where does this reluctance stem from? And what is it about this house that so appealed to him, but its neighbours rather less so?

I loved the exploration of this gated community, where much of the novel was set. From the outside, those within seemed to live a charmed and care-free life. Their close proximity ensured safety but it also meant all were aware of each other's every movement. Everyone knew who was where they should be and what for, and also who was where they shouldn't have been, with the why, however, still yet to de discovered.

Once I had immersed myself into this community, along with protagonist Alice, I felt the pacing stalled and I spent a little too long eagerly awaiting the next narrative twist to occur. There were a few spooky, night-time events and I really wished these had been prolonged, as they brought a sinister vibe to the story I greatly appreciated. Given the somewhat isolated setting, this is exactly what I was anticipating from the book.

This was not the direction it continued to take, but the mystery that was presented was still of interest. However, once the focused rested here, I wished, again, that the pace was increased. I remained intrigued by the mystery throughout, if a little uninterested by the inactivity during the central portion of it.

The ending was unexpected and well-executed and made some of my earlier reservations disappear, with its unique reveals, heightened action, and emotional focus. I may not have entirely loved this, throughout, but still thought it a solid thriller read. Paris is definitely an author I long to read more from.

Alice moves to London to live with her boyfriend Leo after he buys a house for them to move forward in their relationship. What he doesn't tell her is that a murder took place there before he bought it, a murder that Alice realises is not solved.

Already a fan of previous books by B.A Paris, I was looking forward to this! Just the blurb had me hooked.
A gated community full of secrets and an awful murder with a whole host of suspects.
I guessed the killer fairly early on but this just added to the tension for me. I was curling my toes and wanting to shout run away at so many points.
I read, interested to see how all the loose ends would come together and how everything linked up.
The quiet and closed off atmosphere of the gated community mixed with Alice being a fish out of water really added to her vulnerability and although I had worked out the culprit, I was left second guessing constantly.
A seriously tense read and one that will leave me double checking my locks for some time.

I adored Behind Closed Doors and The Dilema so I went into this book with excitement.

I loved the set up of The Circle, the idea of having a small gated community where everyone looks out for each other. The characters felt very real to me. The relationships between them was well written and I felt connected to them all in some way.

This was a fabulous twisty book with a ton of suspects! This in a psychological thriller is exactly what I love to read! It had elements of tension, it was slightly creepy and had parts that had me edging toward the light switch! It was unfortunate that I read parts of this while in bed!

If you loved Behind Closed Doors you’ll love this too ... If not more so!

Alice and Leo have been in a long-distance relationship for a relatively short time and Leo finds a bargain of a house to buy in London for the pair to live in, which means that Alice can afford to keep her cottage in the countryside. The new house is set in a small, elite gated community of 12 homes called The Circle and the couple are excited about how peaceful and secure the setting is for being so central in London.

However, quickly, things begin to unravel. At their drinks party to meet the new neighbours, there is a suspicious gategrasher, followed by Leo waking in the night thinking there is an intruder in the house. Then, Alice learns a disturbing fact about the previous owners of the house, which leads her to lose trust in Leo... and all of the neighbours living in the Circle! It seems as though everyone is hiding something and wants to keep the truth hidden.

The Therapist was very very hard to put down - it is so full of intrigue, suspicion and twists and turns. Like Alice, I suspected everyone and couldn't wait to find out the truth about what happened. Another gripping and excellent read from B.A. Paris!

The story is told purely from Alice's perspective which is good as she discovers a secret about her new house that she cannot get over. Who is telling the truth and who is lying to her? She becomes very obsessed with finding the truth about what happened to a woman who she never met. Who should she believe and who should she not trust?

A very good read with lots of twists and turns and characters that you can invest in. I did find Alice quite annoying and wanted her to just let things rest but I think that is the point of her character! I enjoyed the story and would definitely recommend!

Alice and Leo move into an exclusive close called The Circle in London. Most of the residents seem friendly but there's a strange atmosphere. Is there a ghost, real or metaphorical? Who was the man who gatecrashed their housewarming party? Why doesn't their neighbour like Alice? A chilling and twisty thriller that keeps you on your toes.

Another success from B.A. Paris!
Alice and her new partner Leo move to a small gated community of 12 detached houses on the outskirts of London. Alice soon discovers that there was a tragedy which occurred 2 years ago, in the very house they bought. Alice is naturally upset that Leo hadn't told her what had happened, and it affects their relationship. Alice begins to ask questions and re-opens old wounds, putting her at odds with some of her new neighbours.

I found the main character to be very emotional and needy, with a tendency to over-analyse everything. But perhaps she had good reason, with things mysteriously appearing and going missing from the house. Could it be the real murderer, or maybe the victim's ghost? She suspects everyone and everything at some point and flips allegiances at the drop of a hat - as did I.

All the characters are very realistic and lifelike, the book is told entirely from Alice's POV and the plot is twisty and full of suspense, with a powerful ending.

Wow. I finished this hours ago and I don't think my heart rate has calmed down yet. Alice (conveniently named such after her sisters love for Alice in Wonderland) moves house with her partner to "The Circle".
Having lost her parents and sister Nina in a car crash many years ago she's still trying to rebuild her life and make friends.. Secrets unravel, the name Nina haunts her again and she becomes obsessed with solving a murder.
This novel has so many twists and turns and with so many characters with complex situations, it appears to be harder than ever to know who Alice can trust.
No spoilers here, but the ending is an unforgettable and dramatic one that literally took my breath away.
An unputdownable intriguing read that never stops giving.

Well B A Paris has done it again. Another great psychological thriller with many twists and turns. I thought I had it figured out halfway through, but I was totally wrong!
Alice and Leo move in together in a house in a gated community. As Alice gets to know the neighbours she finds out a terrible secret about her house and begins to feel a connection with Nina, the therapist who lived in the house before them. As Alice tries to discover what happens she discovers her neighbours may not be all they seem.
I would highly recommend this to all psychological thriller lovers.

My Thoughts
I really enjoyed this booked, I loved the idea of living somewhere like ‘The Circle’......well until the story developed that is!

There were lots of interesting characters, with their own secrets, which held my interest throughout. Despite their being numerous character, at no point did it become confusing or ‘too much’ each on being integral to the storyline.

The storyline was gripping and pacy, I recommend this to any thriller fan.

The Therapist by BA Paris was a really enjoyable read BUT....... throughout I kept thinking I’d read it before or seen it on tv. Since publication date isn’t until 15th April this can’t be possible. It’s a twisty storyline, well developed with credible red herrings and well rounded characters. I couldn’t help but like Eve, suspect Gilly’s close and frequent contact and wonder about most of the other neighbours! No plot spoilers but suffice to say the ending surprised me as I was thinking along different lines so maybe the deja vue was just that I’ve read a story with a similar plot line yet..... I remain perplexed as it seemed so familiar. In any case, a fantastic read, well worth taking time out to enjoy the twists and turns. Four stars

I have enjoyed a few other books by B.A Paris and this one doesn't disappoint.
Alice already has "baggage" to deal with but when her a Leo move into a beautiful house together in a gated community, she finally feels that she can start to move on. That is until she discovers the grisly past of her new home. Determined to find out what happened, in the hope that it means she doesn't lose her dreams, Alive embarks on her own investigation but her neighbours, the ones that should know the answers, don't seem keen to talk. Can Alice find the truth or will her new life disintegrate around her.

I was gripped by this story very early on in the book. This author is skilled at developing characters and at hiding their secrets until it's relevant to the story. The plot is intriguing and it's one of those books that I didn't want to end. Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for allowing me to preview this book

I do love a good twisty-turny thriller, and this was exactly that. The tale of murder and deceit in a gated community. Brilliant!

Alice and her boyfriend Leo are in a long distance relationship and decide to move in together. Alice had lived in a quaint cottage in a small village but unbeknownst to Alice Leo buys a house whilst she is on holiday without consulting her in a gated London community called the circle with another 11 houses.

Alice discovers that the house had a dark history which Leo knew about. Nina, the previous owner was murdered allegedly by her husband who then tawesome his own life and Leo bough the house at a bargain price. Alice, lost her sister, also called Nina and cannot settle even trying to get to know the neighbours but just cannot seem to settle there.

Whilst getting to know her neighbours she fine reasons to suspect then all and decided to investigate the death as she does not believe Nina, the therapist referenced in the title was murdered by her husband.

As the story unfolds strange and unsettling things start happening in the house. The book rambled on a bit and whilst I did like the book on the whole it did lose its way a little for me. I liked the ending although I was not wholly surprised with the outcome it was somewhat implausible ano I am usually surprised by the ending of this authors books but not this one.

Having said that it was a good read but not her best but I would recommend this book and this authors other books

I'd not read anything by B A Paris before this - a shocking confession - but had heard good things, When I was offered the chance to read an advance copy by Harper Collins and NetGalley, I jumped at the chance.

This is the story of Alice and Leo who move into an exclusive gated community in London called 'The Circle'. The neighbours are friendly, the houses luxurious and the security strong...but Alice soon learns that nothing is as it seems. When she uncovers a nightmarish secret about her new home, her life is turned upside down as she struggles to decide just who she can trust.

I enjoyed this tense and twisty tale of Alice's time at 'The Circle'. I'm much more familiar with police procedurals than this style of thriller and so fell for every single trick and red herring along the way. There were times when I wasn't sure whether it was all in Alice's head as she interrogated and alienated people - but I really needed to know and raced through the book in two sittings.

In particular, B A Paris is excellent at keeping the tension high as little clues suggest that all is not well at 6, The Circle. Things not being where they were left, Alice's sense of being watched while she sleeps, the strange 'gifts' appearing - all of this kept me reading and became more sinister as Alice isolated herself from those around her. It felt like the stakes were being raised all the time and the reader (and Alice) are left playing catch-up.

Another clever feature of this book was the portrayal of the community surrounding Alice. It felt that this initially welcoming bunch of neighbours had their own complex webs of relationships and plenty of secrets between them - something that kept unfolding as the novel progressed. The fact that this was all set in a closed and exclusive community was also appealing - shades of Agatha Christie's novels where the cast list is limited by the location, be it a small village, island or stately home!

I'd recommend this book to those seeking a compelling and enjoyable thriller. It is pacy, well-plotted and engaging - and a whole lot of fun as you guess again and again, only to be proved wrong at the very next turn. Or maybe that's just me who would make a hopeless investigator!
