The Gut Stuff explores the connection between the gut and overall wellbeing. The Gut Stuff is a well-written and informative book that provides a comprehensive overview of gut health. The book is easy to read and understand, and it is full of helpful information. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about gut health and its impact on overall health and well-being.

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Definitely a book for those who suffer from digestive issues or who want to know how to have a healthy gut. It seems as it's a gut full of good bacteria is the key to good health and a long life. Brilliant.

I think any book that is helpful to someone is a good book. This book would appeal to people who don’t want lots of ‘science’ but want to know how to help themselves in a fun and interesting way. The subject is broken down into easy to understand segments. Most of us know how important gut health is these days to our overall health and this book looks at giving information in a fun and personable way that also includes experts knowledge from different fields connected with gut issue in every section.

It’s written by twins Alana and Lisa Macfarlane who were normally the ‘ guinea pigs’ in medical research as twins are great for research purposes. But even though they have 100% same DNA their guts only share 40% same microbiota so this lead to then wanting to look into the research of why and how this can affect them and how they could improve their gut health. They have spent the past few years interviewing lots of gut experts: scientists, academics, chefs and foodies.

Chapters include: Back to School – biology and the microbiome; Mind and Body – the gut and immunity, the gut and exercise, the gut and skin, the gut-brain axis, the gut and sleep, the gut and hormones; Scientific Interlude on Pre- and Probiotics; Bullsh*t Bin – mythbusting nutrition nonsense; What Can You Do – top tips to support your gut; I've Gutta Problem – common digestive issues; The Future of Science; The Gut Glossary.
There is also lots of practical advice from gut experts, from how to de-stress for your gut to the affects of alcohol on the gut, this is an achievable guide for better health.

All in all this is a great book and I did like the way it was written with a fun element. If you’ve already read different ‘scientific’ books then you will find it may not be enough for you. I’ve read lots of books and articles on gut health but still thought this was good.

Gorgeously informative, light hearted and suitable for anyone with an interest in learning more about such an important part of the human body.

I'm always curious to learn more and reading different authors really allows in-depth learning of different perspectives. Great work!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

A good book for people who want to learn more the gut. The things are explained in simple terms so I would recommend to anyone even if it's for the first time when they read something about the gut and how it works.

This was a very useful book and easy to read. Over the last year I have wanted to explore more clean living recipes and ideas and this has helped.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own

As someone who suffers with gut issues I am fascinated by books on the gut and really enjoyed reading this. There was some humour in this which is unusual in other gut books I have read previously. Each chapter introduces a scientist, medic or researcher who specialises on the topic of the chapter, adding real credibility to the book.
Definitely worth a read!

This is a great introductory guide to understanding how your gut works. It's written humorously and I loved the puns! It talks about what's known and unknown and the direction this area of biology is taking. I found the explanations from experts interesting and I thought it was great that Lisa and Alana didn't set themselves up as the experts themselves. I would've liked a diagram of the digestive system included (from mouth to large intestine/bottom). This book gives good gut advice for moving forwards ie. the types of food to eat (and avoid). Highly recommended.

Lovely basic guide to Gut Stuff; filled with helpful diagrams and easy to understand science. I enjoyed reading about the ongoing research!

Practical tips include food swaps and how the gut is affected by different things, including alcohol, stress and sleep.

Overall, an enjoyable overview of gut health that isn't a heavy read.

I loved the humour that the authors used to get the points across. A very informative book about the gut that is easy to understand. The layout is lovely as it isn't dense with text. The drawings break it up so ut is easy to read.

I'm busy with sourdough baking. One of the benefits is good for our gut, and this book took my attention. Especially with the soft pink cover. I like it, it is very informative and easy to read. I learned a lot about our gut.

‘The Gut Stuff’ is a highly readable and fun take on the current knowledge base around gut health.

The author have clearly worked hard to make the book as accessible and enjoyable as possible and I feel they have acheived this.

It covers the topic area well, offering information and practical advice. Gratifyingly all the advice seems sensible and fads are shunned.

It is a visually pleasing book, beautifully presented, and would be a aesthetically welcome addition to book shelves an coffee tables alike!

Each chapter introduces a scientist, medic or researcher who specialises on the topic of the chapter, adding real credibility to the book.

I felt this book to appeal to younger adults particularly, with lots of contemporary cultural references made throughout.

My thanks to Net Galley, authors and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

Demystifying the buzz words of gut health and microbiome, this book explains clearly the importance of fibre in our diets. Most people now know just how important the gut is to our health and wellbeing, including its impact on our digestive and immune systems and on diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and even mental health, but so much of the information out there is hard to understand or doesn't offer realistic solutions.

This book is very informative, a good guide for beginners or those wanting to understand gut health better and overall is a good read. The book itself would be better as a hard copy rather than an E-book. Overall, 3 stars due to the struggle of the E-book.

This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of her work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

This is a great introduction to the workings of our gut and how we should be looking after it. I think, for someone who has no previos knowledge, it is pitched correctly. People can go off and research aereas of interest further without being overwhelmed. As a health professional and someone who likes to look after her own gut health, I felt that it didn't really add anything to my current knowledge.

A good start on an introduction to your gut health, very informative and some good diagrams that help people flow through the gut learning what happens as food is pushed through the body, a good introduction for beginners and plenty of tips to help aid you to the toilet if you are struggling or suffer with stress etc.

A lot of this, I already knew, but I thought the book might have been a bit longer and more in depth than it was, I did also think it might cover some aspects I personally am interested in, however, it stated that there was still on going research into that topic, so I didn't manage to learn any more. The book could have also done with a little bit more information, if it had been a tad more informative, I could have stretched to another star.

The book itself would be better as paper or hard back copy as via tablet, I struggled with it and it wasn't easy to read format wise, not a problem but perhaps something to bare in mind.

A really interesting book and so informative. I learnt lots about the gut that I never knew!
My only issue was that the formatting was all over the place.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
