Thanks to Netgalley and Booksgosocial for the early copy of this in exchange for a review.

This was a cute little book. We have 3 cats and I learned a few new things.

Recently, I got my first kitten. I have never had a pet before, so was very interested in the topic of this book. Peter Scottsdale answers all the questions you may have about why your cat is behaving the way it does. Each answer was short and to the point, but told you all you needed to know. I liked the fact that it wasn’t long winded and was easy to read. I would definitely recommend this book, especially to anyone who has just got a new kitten.

My thanks to the publishers for a review copy of this rather charming guide to why cats do all sorts of things. It is described as a children’s book but much of the advice is more likely to be useful to parents or at any rate people who are responsible for their households and pay for vet services, for example. It’s also quite a good read if you are an adult just interested in cats, although some of the answers given can be a bit repetitive.

It taught me quite a lot about ear and whisker signals. I like the thought of cats ruminating on a decision licking their lips. And I had never before heard of their vomeronasal organ, which provides sensory information somewhere between taste and smell. I’m intrigued to learn that injured cats may purr at a frequency beneficial to adding bone density and promoting self healing.

The English in the book is quite American, so sport and TV allusions passed me by and I spent a while wondering what a fixed cat might be - he’s been neutered!

The book also ends rather suddenly after a very long section on why cats might not be using litter trays provided with vehement exhortations to consult the vet in these circumstances.

Nonetheless it’s a good if quirky read for those of us who are fond of cats.

This is a great book about cat behaviour and the reason why cats do certain things. I found it very interesting and I learned a lot from it. I have two cats and I love cats, so I enjoyed this book a lot.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

As a cat owner, this book was relatively interesting, and I even learned a couple of new things!

The writing is easy to understand without being condescending. It’s appropriate for all ages, so that’s a bonus.

However, sometimes I wished for a bit of a more in-depth answer to some of the questions. Some of the explanations are the absolute barebones and could be easily found on a Google search’s first page of result...

Why Do Cats Do That? is a great small book about cats and their behaviour.
As a lifelong cat-lover, I enjoyed the book a lot and even learned a new thing or two. The language used is very accessible, which makes it perfect even for younger readers.
I'd definitely recommend the book to all that wish to get a cat, but feel like they don't know enough about cats yet, and to those that have a young child and are trying to explain to the child how to interact with their pets.

I've had a cat for many years and being at home because of covid I have observed my cat more and more and often find myself wondering why he does the silly things he does. Easily enough to write these off as "cat things" but then I stumbled upon this book, a little dictionary of those cat things and some explain and insight as to why.

I enjoyed reading this book and found lots of them related to my cat and helped me see why he does the things he does. Great book for any cat owner/lover!

For anyone who is new to cats or wants a refresher on some of the most common questions about cats this is an excellent book. Why do cats purr? Why do they rub your legs? Why do cats fight? Why do cats not like to get wet? These are just a few of the many questions in this book. For me, as a cat person this was a refresher and reminder of some things I forgot all about. Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am NOT a cat person.

Kitties look SO CUTE from far away, but then you carefully, slowly approach one to pet it only to get your hand sliced up by razor sharp claws. They're like gremlins going from adorable to evil in 2 seconds.

Even still, I actually enjoyed this book. Perhaps that's a testament to either the author's snarky sense of humor or the power that cats wield over the human race despite our resistance to our feline overlords. Funny quips were sprinkled amongst the cat-facts that actually made me smile. It was an easy, fast read written in a very friendly, upbeat tone.

One memorable moment that stands out to me is the insanely gross fact that mother cats will lick the butts of their young to encourage a bowl movement. (ACK!) For this reason, sometimes cats raise their tails in front of their human because the human reminds them of their mother. It's the kind of thing that once you know it... you can't *unknow* it.

Also, cats don't scratch furniture to sharpen their claws but rather to reveal the new claw underneath. They also hide in boxes so they can scratch your legs as you walk by and bring you dead things they kill as presents. So, yeah, they're basically monsters.

Most of the information in this book is pretty much common sense, but it was still an enjoyable read. If you are a cat-lover, definitely check it out. If you're not a cat lover (like moi), you still might enjoy it.

Thank you NetGalley and to the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I've had fun with this, and it's answered a few questions I had. I've never had an indoor cat before, but we got adopted by a starving kitten awhile back. Once we nursed her back to health she refused to go outside, leaving us with not much idea what to do with an indoor queen. Nice book.

For every question a cat owner has, this book probably has an answer. Perfect for the anxious new owner of a kitten. Would recommend for anyone who loves cats or has one.

I haven't read the first book, but I do have a cat, so I was curious about it. It was not exactly what I expected; the chapters were rather short and based on the words I think this book was more aimed at a younger audience than my 23-years old self.
Most of this was stuff I am already familiar with, so I didn't take much from this book. For someone new to cats, however, I think it's not too bad an idea to read it. It's written easily, so younger people or people who have difficulties in reading can understand it as well. The chapters are short, making it easy for people to get hold of a topic.
While I am not the right audience for this one, I am still going to give it three stars, because I am sure it's a great book for people interested in cats or about to get their first cat.

Have you ever wondered why a cat rubs on your leg or other items? Are you curious as to why your cat can climb up a tree but can’t seem to be able to climb down? How about why a cat seems to go crazy around catnip? You will find the answers to these and many other cat questions in this interesting and entertaining book. It is a quick read that will leave you felling as if you now know your feline friend better. If you have an interest in, or a strong fondness for, felines you won’t want to miss this book.

This is a cute read for cat lovers. There wasn't a lot of information that I didn't already know, but I did learn why my current cat doesn't meow (all my others were talkers!) If you are new to cats, I would recommend this book. Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

In our household, we are fascinated with our cats and their behaviour. We 'talk' with them on a daily basis and decry the fact that they treat our house like a hotel.
With 98 questions answered in this book, I feel as though our family now understands our cats behaviour and personalities in a much fuller way.
I now know why our cats play with their prey and why it looks as though they are sometimes watching television. I was fascinated to learn that the frequency they purr at can aid healing and that they convey emotions through the position of their ears.
Written in a fun and simple way by cat lover turned Author Peter Scottsdale, Why do cats do that? is a useful addition to any cats lovers library.
