Dick Eastman gives a very clear steer on what is required to talk to God through prayer in a very accessible way.

He helpfully breaks down prayer into components so that it need not be overwhelming but instead more manageable to converse with God.

I found this much more helpful than other books I have read on prayer as it gave examples of each component as well as an explanation of it.

Well-written and a book that can be turned to time and time again.

Beautiful book of prayer that joins the author on his hour journey to pray. Instructions and insights into different types of prayer, starting with intercession and including listening and meditation, and often overlooked and important part of prayer. Each chapter ends with prayer and scripture. If you're looking for guidance in prayer, this is perfect.

This book is full of devotionals, about how you can change, what, how and when you pray. I love the insights the author shares on meditation, thanksging, singing, etc. I love the suggestion, to really stop and listen for answers, prayer is a conversation, so it involves listening to hear.

Great little book on prayer! Really liked it! If I had it in hard copy instead of ebook, I would have loved it more! That didn’t affect my star rating though. 🙂 It was an ARC from Net Galley and I’m thankful for the read, but it would have just been better for me, if it were a copy I had in my hand. But anyway tremendous little book! So much to help anyone, especially someone just starting on their journey in Christianity. Giving prayer instructions Eastman also gives you related scripture, prayer prompts, and suggestions to put your prayers into action. Very helpful for anyone, especially anyone wanting to spend more time in prayer and having it be more effective and beneficial to your life, other’s lives and the church. We have many people and situations to pray for and this little dynamite book can help us pray more effectively. Thank you to #NetGalley and the publishers, Chosen, for giving me the opportunity to read and review #TalkingWithGod with my honest thoughts and opinions.

How important is it to talk with God? This short practical plan for personal prayer is a great book in understanding the importance of prayer.

If you have ever wondered if you are doing it right, Talking with God by Dick Eastman explains the twelve elements of prayer. Praise, Waiting, Confession, Scripture Praying, Watching, Intercession, Petition, Thanksgiving, Singing, Mediation, Listening, and Praise again. The author explains why it is important, and gives biblical examples of how it is done. Thought provoking and inspiring. East to read. He includes prayers at the end of each chapter with scripture verses to help you along. Taking focus off of ourselves, and directing them towards God. For years I have used ACTS as a prompt for prayer, but this book gives a more in-depth an insightful look.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher via Net Galley. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

Prayer is so important in the life of a believer, and one of the things prayer teaches us is to take our focus off of ourselves and direct it to God. I loved this book, and one of the main reasons is that it is an easy to read summary of Dick Eastman's book The Hour that Changes the World. He discusses the many aspects of prayer, and how we can incorporate them into a daily devotional life. This is one of those books to leave in your reading area that you can refer to again and again. I found it very easy to read and finish quickly, but I will be re-reading it for years to come.

Overall, I'd recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a better understanding of the different types of prayer displayed in scripture, and how to implement it in their own lives.

Talking with God: A Practical Plan for Personal Prayer by Dick Eastman provides readers with a great primer on how to spend an hour in prayer. Eastman begins by introducing readers to the power of prayer and the necessity of prayer. The he helps readers see how to spend an hour in prayer daily.

In all honesty, most believers consider an hour in prayer overwhelming and wouldn't even know where to begin. Eastman breaks it down by helping readers pray five minutes for each of 12 prayer "focuses" for a total of 60 minutes of prayer: Praise, Waiting, Confession, Scripture Praying, Watching, Intercession, Petition, Thanksgiving, Singing, Meditation, Listening, and ending with Praise. There's even a "prayer circle" diagram that outlines the 12 prayer focuses in a visual way.

A handy book, Talking with God is an easy read filled with nuggets of truth and numerous practical applications. Each chapter addresses the biblical context of one of the prayer "focuses" and how to incorporate it into one's prayer time. Also included in each chapter are some prayer starters, application steps, and other relevant Scriptures for meditation and prayer.

And if you're too overwhelmed to try for an hour, Eastman gives other ways to incorporate these prayer focuses. Ideas include taking 1-3 minutes per focus instead of 5 or prioritizing a different prayer focus each day for 12 days.

I find it a bit disappointing that this material is already part of Eastman's older book, The Hour That Changes the World. Had I known I probably wouldn't have sprung for this book as this book is a sort of condensed version. Still, the material is great. Plus, if you haven't read the older book, this is a great book to help you deepen your prayer life. Handy, helpful, practical, doable. That's what we all want when it comes to resources to help us deepen our prayer lives.

Note: I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for this honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.

I liked the progression of the chapters. The author stayed on topic for each chapter. It is a good basic primer if you are looking for something to base your prayer time on. However, the writing style was a bit choppy.
