My first time reading this author. Enjoyed the character of Paige and the insight into the world of signing. A good pace to the plot; did not guess who did it!

I really enjoyed Silent Night so was pleased to read this to see the continuation in Paige’s story. This was just as enjoyable with some really interesting characters and an intriguing plot involving both Paige’s working life and personal life in some cases with some blurring of the lines between the two. This is quite thought provoking in terms of how things affect the deaf community in ways which we don’t really consider but it’s told in an excellent manner so that the focus is the story. I loved how this ended and really hope to find out how things go for Paige next.

This was a really good book! It kept me guessing, mostly. Excellent character development of most important characters, and just enough on the others to get the point across.

I enjoyed this thriller form start to finish! However, I did think there were two many other clues and people it could be and the ending was very sudden with who it was. I wish their was more elaboration during the ending on the motive.

The first quarter of this book had me hooked and I really wanted to know what the outcome would be. However as I moved further through the book the plot started to seem a bit dull. There wasn't much other detail in the characters lives either, I felt like they all needed way more depth.
Overall a good premise but not enough detail or interesting events to keep me interested.

This is the third in a series, in which I read the first book but somehow missed the second one. Paige is a sign language interpreter who works with a local social worker. One of the social worker's deaf clients calls Paige to help him when his house catches fire and is then arrested for the murder of his wife, but he won't communicate with anyone, even in his own defense. I don't think I will read any more from this series. It is just frustrating, the degree to which Paige gets involved in these things that should be left to the police. She wasn't even working with the police this time and was, in fact, a witness. She should not have been investigating with Sasha. It's too frustrating to read, thinking over and over, "What are you doing?!" Two stars.

THE SILENT SUSPECT by Nell Pattison follows BSL interpreter, Paige Northwood as she tries to uncover the truth behind a murder, a series of strange fires, and what she wants out of the relationships in her life.

While this is the third book in the Paige Northwood series (I haven’t read any of the others), I found that this could be read as a standalone. From the first page, I was immediately hooked because I have never read a book that features people who are profoundly deaf! To have most of the dialogue recited in British Sign Language was really cool, and I found myself learning so much and seeing things in a new light!

However, apart from that aspect of this book, I found the writing to be rather dull. The same statements are repeated over and over and I found myself rolling my eyes at points. In addition to that, the main character, Paige, is extremely annoying and is all “woe is me” for most of the book when IT ISN’T ABOUT HER. She’s so self-centered and makes poor decisions, and I’m curious to know if that’s how she’s portrayed in the rest of the series because it is TIRING. The whodunit at the end also had me questioning a lot of things. It didn’t feel realistic and also came on very rushed after a very slow and arduously drawn out lead-up.

Despite those qualms, the overall story had some intrigue to it, which made me feel confident in giving this book three stars.

Loved this book. I have read all the books in the series and they are so well written. I am hooked straight away and this one definitely didn't disappoint. I really hope there's another one in the pipe line. I love the fact that these books are your typical books/stories, im intrigued by the deaf community through these stories and have learnt so much from them already. Keep them coming

Paige Northwood is now working as a freelance sign language interpretor for the police and three days a week assisting a social worker Sasha.
From the word go the reader is thrown straight into the action, Paige gets a call from one of Sasha`s deaf clients, Lukas, telling her his house is on fire.
Paige rushes to the scene, Lukas is frantically looking for his wife Nadia,it is only when the firefighters get the blaze under control that they find her dead body inside the house.
An autopsy proves that she was murdered before the fire was set.
Lukas seems to be the only suspect the police are considering and when his refusal to answer any questions result in the police not actively considering anyone else Paige and Sasha decide to begin their own investigation.
Why won`t Lukas try to clear his name, could he be guilty or is he scared of something or someone?
Then Paige is attacked.
Is she getting to close to discovering the truth?
Even putting herself in potential danger wont stop Paige from finding the true killers identity
This one kept me guessing through all the twists and turns, another great read.
Look forward to more in the Paige Northwood series.

Paige, a British Sign Language interpreter, is a witness to a fire and is unable to work as an interpreter for the police in the related case. The main suspects social worker, Sasha, frequently employs Paige for interpretation services, so Paige had meet Lukas previously. Sasha is convinced Lukas is innocent and convinces Paige to work with her providing interpretation while Sasha investigates.

This is a great character driven series. The Silent Suspect can be read as a standalone, but as the personal relationships continue to develop and come to a head in this novel I would highly recommend beginning with book one in the series. The mystery plot is interesting and the twists and turns in Paige's personal life will be of particular interest to series readers. There is no cliffhanger, but there are some new avenues that have opened up and I am excited to see where the author goes from here.

The third novel in the series and the first that I’ve read. The Book has an intriguing premise, but it left me wanting in some areas. I felt that the characters were to weak and they kept walking into situations that don’t seem realistic. I loved the work with the deaf community within the text, and this added a lot of depth to the novel. I’d like to see a bit more character depth, but a good read.

This is the third in the Paige Northwood series; she’s a British Sign Language interpreter working in this book with profoundly deaf social worker Sasha Thomas. Paige gets a phone call from Lukas Nowalk, a deaf client of Sasha’s to say that his house is on fire and his wife is trapped inside. The storyline reveals a plot with a web of lies and intrigue at the centre.

Having enjoyed the previous two books I looked forward to this one but I don’t think it has the same impact. The concept of Paige as an amateur sleuth is wearing a bit thin and though DI Forest is very unlikeable I believe she is right in her opinions on this one!! Paige claims she is reluctant to get involved but does so anyway and the consequences don’t seem to stop her either! Sasha is not very likeable, she’s pushy in this novel which becomes very annoying. Although the plot line is interesting as the novel expands the style it’s written in means it all falls a bit flat. There isn’t much suspense and tension as a consequence and the backtracking in time interrupts the flow. As Paige tells the story there is unnecessary detail which gets in the way although I do like the fact that she’s torn between her relationship with Max and her attraction to DS Rav Singh who is one of the most likeable characters in the series. As the end of the book approaches there are few surprises as I feel the ending is rather weak.

However, I do believe the concept behind the books with deaf characters at the centre of the storyline makes important points. There is pertinent commentary in the narrative about some people’s negative perceptions towards the deaf which in this day and age you would hope are in the past but sadly aren’t. I like the expansion of the plot into gangs, county lines and cuckooing which is very relevant.

Overall, my overriding view of the novel is that of disappointment, I didn’t connect with this one as with the previous ones but I hope other readers do. If the series is to continue then I think it needs to go up several notches in pace.

Fantastic storyline. Kept me up til the early hours as I needed to find out more.
Definitely recommend to thriller fans.

In no way did I hate this book, but I found it to be a very middle ground mystery novel and not one the held my attention for very long. It was like I was happy to know the ending and I found the characters very well done, but once I was done with the story it seemed to leave my mind.

Saying all that though it is a good book and I think if you are a reader who likes mysteries and book series that follows an unlikely person thrown into a situation to have to be a detective/help them then I would give this book and any other by the author a shot for sure!

Also, I really liked the focus on the importance of ALS and people being able to communicate with others, and really does inspire a person to want to learn sign language to help better the flow of knowledge to all people.

Nell Pattison does it again! I am blown away by the ability this author has to bring my in time and time again. I am obsessed with her characterisation, her storytelling and her ability to keep the reader gripped.

I've enjoyed the last two Paige Northwood books,but this one fell a bit flat for me.
There were a few times I found her a little bit unlikeable .
I'm hoping it was wrong book at wrong time and can continue to enjoy the series.

My least favorite book in this series. I just couldn't stand Paige in this one. For the most part she was a doormat and a stupid one at that. She was told on many many occasions not to get involved in this investigation, to not do anything stupid. And what did she do? You guessed it: she got involved anyway. She got physically hurt because of it three times in this book. On top of that, her personality in here was volatile at times. Her sister Anna started dating this guy and, instead of being happy for her, Paige was jealous, because, you see, her sister was happy but Paige's love life was a disaster. Speaking of that, maybe her boyfriend Max ultimately wasn't for her, but she was with him for over a year while having feelings for someone else. Not a nice thing to do. And then, to top it off, she managed to get the person she has feelings for in a lot of trouble.
I don't even know. The previous book was really good and was looking forward to this one. I hoped there would be a lot of character development, but it ended up being a hot mess. And speaking of the next book, I don't know how it's supposed to go. Paige is not a detective, she is just an interpreter, she can't solve these crimes anyway but especially now when in puts others in crossfires. As a reader of mysteries you're supposed to enjoy the investigating process but all I wanted here was for Paige to stop being so goddamn arrogant and just mind her own business. So how is it entertaining when you want the so-called investigator to stop investigating? The next book better redeem this series.

We meet Paige again, she is now working as a sign language interpreter for Social Worker Sasha and freelances for the local police. She is dating Max who wants to take their relationship to the next level.

Paige is drawn into a murder case involving one of Sasha’s clients. Lucas arrives home to find his house on fire and his wife Nadia murdered. Lucas is arrested for the murder but his silence is making him look guiltier.

Paige and Sasha are adamant that Lucas is innocent and start to investigate into Lucas’s life to see what he is hiding..

I love Paige, the way she throws herself into being an amateur detective, even putting her own life at risk. I do find myself screaming at her NO, as she does not always think before jumping into danger!!

A series that I am hoping will continue.
