Twists and turns is all I can say about this book. Truly a thriller that I did not want to put down. Have already recommended to friends and am excited to read more by this author.

Paige Northwood works as an interpreter for the deaf, and some of work involves working with the local police. This is the third in the series, so there have been events which the new reader is rather ignorant of, but we pick up that Paige had an abusive boyfriend, who she managed to ditch, and although she is now seeing Max, she clearly has feelings for Rav Singh.

Paige is drawn into a case involving a fire at the home of her deaf employer's client, Lukas, and the matter becomes murder. Lukas, rather irritatingly, won't talk to the police or his friends, so he is charged with his wife's murder. Paige then bungles along, trying to solve the mystery, making some rather dubious decisions and seeming quite dense on occasion about what was happening around her. I didn't particularly warm to her as a character.

Overall the story is pacy, and while the reader can see what is happening, we have to watch the characters make their way through. There was a lot of unnecessary romantic bits that didn't really add to the tale. The author makes a lot of the characters being deaf and signing their dialogue.

Thank you for providing me with this arc!

This was a fantastic read and I was hooked until the very end, I honestly didn’t see it coming.

This had enough suspense in it to make me not want to put it down - which I didn’t! The characters were portrayed excellently and it’s good to read Paige grow in all these books!

I am absolutely obsessed with this series by Nell Pattison. This instalment did not disappoint!

The Silent Suspect is the third book in a series following Paige who manages to find herself caught in the middle of another murder mystery scenario. Through her job as a sign language interpreter, she works with colleagues to try and find the killer, whilst her personal life starts to slip away too.

Paige is one of my all time favourite protagonists. I love a strong female lead, but I particularly love the focus these books have on the deaf community. I have never before read books with such inclusivity for those with disabilities. Whilst I am reading I can picture the characters communicating in sign language (although I admit I do not speak it myself). The unique perspective this adds to the books is what keeps me coming back for more, I just can't get enough!

I am an avid thriller reader, what I loved about this book was how long it took me to guess the murderer. After reading so many thrillers, it is hard to surprise me or keep me on my toes, but this book managed to. I also LOVE the relationships between the characters, the ending left my heart aching. I can't wait to see what happens next in Paige's journey!

I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who loves thrillers or to anyone looking for a book with a unique perspective/protagonist. I am so grateful to Netgalley, the publishers and authors for allowing me to read this book and give my personal thoughts.

A thriller following the arrest of a deaf man after his house is set on fire and the dead body of his wife is found inside. This one will keep you guessing. Did he do it? Or was it his ex wife, his son or even the corrupt gym owner he borrowed money from?

Another great read in the Silent series by Nell Pattison. Interpreter Paige arrives at a client's home while it is burning. Her client, Lukas is safe, but his wife Nadia is pulled out of the flames. When authorities discover she was dead prior to the fire all signs point to Lukas-at least circumstantially. Paige gets pulled into another deadly mystery with the attractive Detective Singh while dealing with the fallout of her own romantic relationship with Max. This time, Paige gets close enough she may get burned if she's not careful. Some good twists and turns, as is the trademark of this series, as well as some unresolved questions that will leave the reader wanting more. Pattison does a great job representing the deaf community as well.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

The Silent Suspect by Nell Pattison revolves around sign language interpreter Paige Northwood. A clients home is burnt to the ground and although he is safe, his wife was still inside. Now he is arrested on suspicion of murder.

I enjoyed previous books by Nell Pattison, but this was one I didn't finish. I found it frustrating when the main character kept thinking I shouldn't do this and yet let herself get talked into things over and over. It made Paige as a main character very weak.

I think the idea behind the book was good but the main character ruined it for me.

When sign language interpreter, Paige Northwood, receives a call asking her to assist at the scene of a house fire, she arrives to find client Lukas alive and well but his wife trapped inside the burning building. As her lifeless body is brought out, it becomes apparent that she was dead before the fire started. Lukas signs to Paige that he knows who killed his wife but refuses to share his thoughts with the police, leaving him as the prime suspect. Feeling that he is hiding something, Paige sets out to help, but is he guilty or afraid of something or someone?

This is the third in the Paige Northwood series and while there are references to the previous two, it can be read as a standalone. There are some spoilers, but nothing that would prevent someone from going back and reading the earlier books.

My attention was grabbed right from the start as the scene is set almost immediately, introducing us to Lukas and why he needs Paige’s help. It was apparent very early on that Lukas had something to hide but was he trying to protect someone or was he scared to tell the truth? Some twists and turns along the way keep you asking these questions until the end, suspicion being placed on several characters until the big reveal.

I think the main strength of these books is the accurate portrayal of the deaf community, something which I do not recall being a subject in any other books. Nell Pattison shows how vital people like Paige are, helping deaf people to access the things that the rest of us take for granted. I did find myself getting frustrated by Paige several times, however, and I wish that she would take her own advice about trying to stay out of trouble!

This is a series that I am really enjoying and I look forward to seeing how repercussions from events in The Silent Suspect affect Paige in future books.

I hope that Nell Pattison continues with this series. It’s an important sub genre that is both fascinating and gripping all at the same time!! I love thrillers and I really love reading more about Deaf culture!

This was my first Paige Northwood book and despite it being the third in the series you could definitely read it as a stand alone. Pattison gives enough background information and builds up the characters so well that I didnt feel like I had missed anything. I thought the character development was really good, I really liked Paige’s character and learning more about her life instead if just a page turning thriller! The book follows Paige a interpreter for a deaf social worker, Sasha I was cautious about the representation of Deaf people within this book and wasnt sure if it was playing on people’s vulnerability as a thriller. However, the story was much more focused on Paige and the role that she played and I really enjoyed the extra aspects of Paige’s personal life. We follow Paige as the house of one of Sasha’s clients Lukas Nowak is set on fire with his wife trapped inside. From this an intricate web of lies and crime is uncovered that throughout the book puts Paige in danger. The story definitely held me at the edge of my seat towards to the end but about 3/4 way through I started to work out what had been going on but not directly who was responsible, so overall it was a very well thought out thriller!

I didn’t realise this was part of a series (gutted) so I’m off to find the rest of them, you can read as a stand-alone but I think it would help to read the previous 2 books. I enjoyed the book and liked the main character Paige and i thought it gives a good insight into the deaf community. I did enjoy the plot and I thought there was a good few twists to keep you interested. In all it was a good book!

I run out of time so sorry I wasn't able to finish this.

Nadia and Lucas are both deaf. By the time Sign Language Interpreter Paige Northwood is contacted and arrives at a burning house, Lucas comes running out. His wife is still inside. It is later determined that Nadia was dead before the fire started.

Lukas signs to Paige that he knows who killed his wife. But then he goes silent – even when the police charge him with murder.

This is suspenseful from the very first page and maintains a high level until the unexpected ending. What comes in between is a bit of choppy writing .. the plot does not move smoothly .. and contains repetitiveness in the telling. Otherwise, this is a interesting insight into the world of deafness. As the author has been teaching in the Deaf community for many years, I expected a certain amount of credibility .... I was not disappointed. Paige is a unique character, solidly drawn.

Many thanks to the author / Avon Books UK - Harper 360 / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
3.5 STARS

This book was okay. I didn't particularly enjoy Paige's character, as she was whiney and a litle self-involved. The pace at the start was slow and I didn't really get invested.

The Silent Suspect is the third Paige Northwood story. Paige is a British Sign Language interpreter who has previously worked with the police on murder investigations and in this instalment she is trying to find who set a house fire, and killed the woman that lived there.

It is the first time Paige hasn’t been interpreting directly for the police and instead she is helping a social worker as one of her clients has been accused of the murder.

Having read all 3 books in quick succession I must admit I didn’t like this one as much as the last. A few of the characters that had been built up over the series suddenly started doing things which to me seemed very out of character and I found Paige quite annoying.

Overall it was a decent enough story and I will probably read any further releases. Fingers crossed they will be more on par with the earlier books.

I read the first book in the Paige Northwood series, The Silent House, last year and loved the different point of view it gave me. Although I missed the second book, Silent Night, I was really happy to get reacquainted with Paige and her friends in this third installment. With another intricate crime at its heart The Silent House was a fun read. Thanks to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Silent House was a fascinating insight into a community I'm not directly linked to and provided me with a whole new viewpoint when it came to thrillers and detective novels. I also adored Paige, a fascinating main character that clearly had a past and had baggage, but also had a big heart. She remains the beating heart of the third installment of her series, the one thing that ties it all together. Nell Pattison never ignores the emotional beats of her story, showing the slow growth of Paige's independence and her developing friendships and relationships. It is one of the few detective series for which I am tightly connected to the main set of characters and truly want them to be ok.

What do you do when someone refuses to communicate with police but has given you an indication of their innocence? That is the dilemma facing Paige Northwood and while she tries so very hard to not get involved she simply can't just stand by. It's the character trait I enjoy most about Paige, although I appreciated her valid struggle to stay within the lane prescribed to her. There are a lot of elements at play in The Silent Suspect, not just the issues facing the Deaf community, but also the hurdles set up for immigrants. I do feel that The Silent Suspect suffered a little from a need to make things bigger and better/badder. There are just so many factors at play. While the crime is still kind of rooted within the deaf community, there are some major criminal elements that at times felt almost too big for the story that Pattison was telling. While it raised the stakes, it also removed some of that familiarity and intimacy that I adored in The Silent House. However, I raced through this book and Pattison managed to keep me hooked throughout every twist.

Nell Pattison does a great job at allowing each installment of the Paige Northwood Series to stand on its own while slowly adding more complexity to her characters and plots. While The Silent Suspect occasionally reaches too far in my opinion, I greatly enjoyed reading it. The pace starts of slow to assure we're properly settled into the latest crime, before picking up in speed with one twist after the other. The newly introduced characters are fleshed out enough to make us invest in them, even if one in particular feels a little bit like a caricature. Pattison moves comfortably between moments of action and moments of personal connection, making sure readers are invested in both. The tension definitely escalates throughout The Silent Suspect and while the book ends with its storyline nicely tied up, it leaves enough room to speculate for the next installment.

The Silent Suspect is another great installment of the Paige Northwood Series in which the tension and the stakes are raised. For fans of the series it should be a no-brainer, but I would highly recommend it to those new to it as well.

Paige, the British Sign Language interpreter, has important decisions to make about personal relationships in this story, which are sidelined when she receives a video call asking her to call 999. This dramatic start is the beginning of a twisty story with multiple layers. Paige takes on the mantle of amateur sleuth, putting herself at risk. Social worker Sasha is pivotal in this story, but she is manipulative, and secretive making Paige vulnerable.

The gentle pacing reflects the complexities of the investigation and the limitations Paige experiences as an amateur detective. The diverse characters are relatable, and the story reflects the communication problems and lack of understanding faced by the deaf community in an enlightening way.

Although readable as a standalone, this is a good series, and this book is more enjoyable if you have read them all.

I received a copy of this book from Avon Books UK in return for an honest review.

This is my second book I've read in this series, and I really like the premise of a sign language interpreter that works with the police, and deaf community.
This one was a bit more predictable, but thats ok it was still a really good read.
And why why why do I have to wait to see what happens with Paige and the DI. Ugh.

If this were the 90s, and this book was Take That, I’d be screaming and fangirling in its presence. I absolutely love this series of books, and I’m breaking out in a cold sweat just wondering how long I have to wait for the next.

The Silent Suspect comes from a slightly different angle from the first two in the series, which I think was a smart move to freshen up the plot. This time Paige is working as an interpreter for social worker, Sasha Thomas (who we met in Silent Night) and it is her client who is in the frame for the murder of his wife. For the first time, Paige finds herself working somewhat in opposition to the police, sure that their prime suspect is innocent. This offers a new dynamic between Paige and Singh, at a time when their close working relationship is on the cusp of change.

Diving straight into this fresh from the last page of Silent Night, I was immediately engaged and burrowed into the pages more than comfortably. The Silent House was a great start to the series, and a book I really enjoyed, but it really feels like Nell has cracked her character and both Silent Night and The Silent Suspect have been in another league entirely. I feel equally invested in the cases and with Paige’s personal life, wanting to hug her, have a drink with her or sometimes (actually, quite often) shout at her for making some incredibly questionable decisions.

As with the other novels in the series, this is well written, engaging and perfectly paced. I never feel bored while reading, and I find that even when I’m not reading, my mind is mulling over the plot, trying to figure out where it’s going next. I read this book in three days. Three. Three child-filled, work-filled, study-filled days. For me, that’s unheard of. I even woke in the middle of the night and stole an hour. That’s right. I actually willingly exchanged sleep in order to read this book. If that isn’t the highest of accolades, I don’t know what is.

This is an absolutely stonking series of books, and I cannot wait for the next. So here is my plea to Nell. Please, please, please don’t make me wait too long for the next installment!!

This was a great installment in the Paige Northwood series, and always provides a great insight into the deaf community.
I listened to the audiobook of this title, and it was thoroughly enjoyable. The chapters narrated by the deaf narrator was a fantastic addition, and although I struggled to follow parts of those chapters, I loved the inclusion. I just needed to pay closer attention during those sections. It helped having the ebook too, although I appreciate some readers wouldn't have been so fortunate.
Paige is a fairly likeable character, although I do roll my eyes a little with her decision making skills! Also, I'm a tad baffled by her relationship with Max, as it seems a little one-sided, and I don't see much of a romantic connection there between them. I like Singh though, and I love the way he tries to reign Paige in.
An enjoyable series, and I look forward to the next installment.
