Revenge Cake is a honest, tear-jerking, dark romance.
Skyler Mason has provided a raw, unfiltered view of addiction and its effects on people and relationships.
Trigger warning- this book features addiction, anxiety, and panic attacks and is recommended for those who are interested in chick-lit, romantic comedies with darker undertones.

This book is so interesting! I loved the main couple - even though they have their own issues, they are really well fleshed out. The romance certainly lives up to the series name but I found myself really rooting for these two. Hopefully we get a look at how they’re doing somewhere down the line!

2.5stars
This is a steamy, angsty romance, and i usually like those, but unfortunately this just wasn’t for me.
I didn’t care for the characters, nor the story, i did not like the plot, and to be honest, the characters were annoying. I also did not really like the toxic relationship, the addiction side of the story and the cheating.
The cover is pretty tho,

We meet Brittani and Logan in the midst of we were on a break moment for the next month due to the fact that she’d had a breakdown and keyed Logan’s car because she thought he was cheating on her with her best friend, Olivia.
Armann sets Logan up with Mia, his girlfriend’s Brenna’s roommate but Logan decides that he’s fallen for their other roommate, Leilani due to her honest and refreshing outlook on life.

As someone who suffers from generalized anxiety disorder, I absolutely related to Leilani. I loved loved all the characters especially Brenna (love the name) & Leilani. Logan was a complete d bag and I hated him

**ARC provided by the publisher of Netgalley in an exchange for an honest review** Revenge Cake is a debut novel and I really liked it, I’m a sucker for scenes that is so complicated I’ll cringe. Don’t let the cover fool you because this book is far the most sweetest book you will ever read! I really enjoyed this book but some plots and scenes don’t really make sense so I left dumbfounded. The characters are toxic and sometimes I want to throw my kindle because of them. But overall I liked it.

about this book.... I really tried to get into the story and while when I started reading it I was really interested in the drama and the relationship but midway it was just too toxic for me to continue so I stopped reading after about 40% in.

This book is a little bit different than the other books I’ve read, and I was hesitant to read it because of the mixed reviews. I liked it, and I actually requested to read it because the cover caught my eye. I have to say I couldn’t put the book down, and the characters were complex and interesting. I give it a 4/5. Thank you to NetGalley for letting me read this book, I enjoyed it a lot!

I liked the fact that this book dealt with mental health, but the story was not for me. I was iffy when I began reading this book, and it just went downhill from there for me. I personally felt it to be very angsty and not my cup of tea. People who like revenge stories might like it though. Just not me.

This book was really great! I strongly recommend it. It wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be like, but definitely worth the read! 4/5 stars!

I must confess that when I started this book I expected the typical love story, the typical book of young romance, but the truth is that the opposite is true, I did not know where I was getting when I started reading, it has been a roller coaster ride and after finishing it I did not know if I had loved or hated the story, I'll let you judge for yourselves, I hope it comes to Spain translated because whether you like it in the end or not, it has no waste.
Revenge cake is the first book of its author, Skyler Manson and touches on very diverse topics, sometimes in a subtle way and others in the crudest way you can imagine, that's why I tell you to go prepared to find everything from cheating, to mental illness, its consequences, toxic relationships, family problems, emotional dependency ... an assortment of what you can imagine and in the most peculiar story I've read in 2020.

The story is about two characters, Logan and Leilani, both two young people with a very specific and marked profile, with a strong character and with defects that we will see practically from the first moment, which makes both characters very forceful, well formed and realistic. Both meet at a party, Logan had just suffered a very peculiar breakup and Leilani and her friends made him a cake, what they call Closure cake, a cake to celebrate the good times with your ex and turn the page for good.
Logan is a guy who seems to constantly need to be in a relationship, as soon as one ends he already "falls in love" with a new girl and starts a relationship, although he says that, simply when he likes someone he feels he should start dating her and that's it. But Leilani is not for the work, from the first moment she shows her sarcasm and intelligence leaving Logan dazzled after her, but she is not going to fall, she is a girl who knows perfectly well what she does not want and in this list is to have a partner. Of course this only makes Logan want Leilani more, so here begins a peculiar relationship that will be characterized, above all, for its comings and goings.
Personally, I did not like Leilani, it is true that Logan is not an angel, far from it, but I did not like Leilani from the first moment. I've even been able to come to understand Logan, although he has a million things to revise, but I have not been able to empathize with Leilani. From the beginning of the relationship I feel that she has taken advantage, in a way, of how Logan drooled and would do anything for her, it's true that this situation comes from one of his big problems, not knowing how to be alone, but it doesn't seem to me an excuse to take advantage of it either. On the other hand, when things seem to be going well it seemed to me that Logan gave everything, constantly, he was caught to the hilt (yes, with a strong dependence, jealousy and a million etcetera) but in front of it I only saw indifference from Leilani, I have not seen reciprocity at any time and maybe that's why I could not get attached to her character, all the time it seemed to me that she was taking advantage of Logan's great defects and that she did not really feel anything for him. It is true that then the tables turn, but coming from this situation Leilani's actions seem unfair, unconscionable I would say, because neither of them was doing good to the other in the relationship, and I think one of them has overpaid without being the executioner just another victim.

I don't want to give too much away either, the feelings I have about this book are confusing on many levels, the characters are so tinged with shades of grey that I can't clearly love or hate any of them, but I did feel that the ending is unfair. As a summary I will say that I found it a good book, it hooks, it is entertaining and has a lot of emotion, it deals with many important issues, among them learning to love people as they are, without trying to change them, trying to improve together, understanding each other and giving in from time to time. Without a doubt Skyler Manson has started strong, with a book that more than sweet leaves me with a sour taste.

This one was different than I originally expected. It had some sensitive subjects in it, but it brought to light the other side of said subjects. It was well written, and I enjoyed it despite it being different from most books I've picked up lately. Would recommend. 3.5🌟

This book I was kind of iffy about. I really did like it in the beginning, but as I read the book I was less drawn to it and more wanted to just finish reading the book. But I did like that the author included a mental health/mental illness aspect to this book; because I always love when authors include mental health awareness showing that it’s okay and everyone has mental health. But I feel like the main plot was too much and ultimately made me not enjoy the book as much as I thought I was going too.

But I am very grateful for NetGalley for the ARC Copy for an exchange of my honest review.

This was not at all what I was expecting, yet I could not put it down. To give a true gauge of how enthralled with the storytelling of this book I was (even when some characters made me want to drop kick them into the next county) I read the entirety of this novel while in labor in the hospital, it distracted me through contractions into the wee hours of the morning and I was disappointed when I finished it and had to put it down.

This book gives you the story of a couple with a back and forth telling from the beginning of their relationship to the end, slowly weaving the tail of falling in love and the destruction of that love. I loved and hated these characters simultaneously. I rooted for them and against them. The ending was far more satisfying than I could have anticipated and the completed cycle of cake really made me smile.

Handling of trauma not for me. Stylistically, this book was simply not my cup of tea. I think there is also a disconnect between the marketing (cover art, blurb) and the contents, which probably also leads to a larger number of readers like me left not quite satisfied.

This book was a nice twist on a dysfunctional relationship! Normally it’s only the men who are toxic, but not in this book! I found it to be well written, but also a bit aggravating, sort of like I felt with AFTER (which I loved). I thought it provided a good break between my normal creepy reads, and really made me glad I’m married and no longer dating! Character development was amazing, writing was fantastic, and I thought it was a captivating, realistic, and fun read! Highly recommend!

Lani didn't want to fall for Logan. And she tried very hard not to. But then they became the perfect couple. Until they weren't. Now, Logan's giving Lani a month to change or the relationship is over. But she knows about the call. She knows about the betrayal.

So, what does a woman do when she is incredibly hurt and betrayed? She prepares for her revenge.

Revenge Cake is very tough to describe. On the outside, it looks like an easy read with romance and revenge. But the book is so much more complicated than that. If you're expecting a traditionally romance book, you'll find yourself very surprised. Lani and Logan's story is much more complicated, serious, and, at times, upsetting. But then again, aren't all real human relationships like that?

Revenge Cake is stripping the false, glittery romantic aspects off romance books, presenting a more raw and realistic story about two people who struggle with themselves and with each other, but want to be together nevertheless. Lani gets panic attacks and gets addicted to prescription drugs. Logan has codependency issues. And Skyler Manson portrays what a relationship between two people with unresolved issues looks like. Is it pretty? No. But is it more realistic than your average rom com? Yes, probably.

So, what starts off as a revenge story carries on to give us a full picture of a problematic relationship through flashbacks, and we start getting more and more information on why these two have ended up on a break, with one of them planning a not-so-elaborate revenge plan. And, as is the beauty of this book, we come to realize one of the most common sayings is true: it's never only the one side's fault. When relationships break, it's two people who've brought that to happen.

It's true that I, personally, found the psychological struggles of Lani with her addiction oversimplified. But I'm taking the wild guess that Mason was trying to focus on the relationship more than Lani's addiction, which, in this story, is a product of her main issues, not the reason behind them. While I understand some people might have found this off-putting, the overall image of a far-from-perfect relationship was so good, it actually was worth reading.
