This was just plain fun. It's a delightful middle grade novel that even older readers will enjoy. It was a refreshing morsel I had the pleasure of enjoying between two much longer reads. Perfect for fans of Enola Holmes!

This is a fun, Jane Austen story that introduces new readers to the classic author. I liked the mystery aspect and that Jane is an amateur Sleath.

I was really hopeful about this series but i just didn't like Jane. The tone wasn't my thing - almost whimsical which I dislike for a mystery. I find a lot with historical fiction that characters can feel younger than they are. Perhaps that's to do with trying to show the time period but it doesn't work for me.

Based on the life of young Jane during the late eighteenth century, this book is both a perfect introduction to Austen and a delight for those who are already fans of her books. Golding has perfectly captured everything that is so familiar to us from Jane’s works at the same time as widening the scope of what we expect from a story set during the Regency period.

When Jane is sent to Southmoor Abbey to be a companion to Lady Cromwell she finds a rumour of a ghostly monk, a mysterious fire and a theft. But can Jane unite with her new friends she finds to solve the mystery?

This is not only a wonderful mystery novel but also a brilliant tribute to Austen herself. Golding perfectly captures the wit and creativity that we know from Jane's novels. She also builds a wonderful family relationship between the Austen siblings which is vivid when they are together and through the letters that Jane writes while she is away.

The Abbey Mystery if rich with historical detail and insights into Regency society. Golding really flexes her knowledge of the period and builds a world that is intriguing and enjoyable.

13 year old Jane Austen is sent to be the companion to a society Lady at a nearby Abbey. Jane has heard stories of a ghost that haunts the grounds. Soon after she arrives, she sees the ghost herself. Not believing in ghosts, she sets out to find out who or what is really behind the apparition.

I found Jane’s character delightful and enjoyed those of her new friends also. This was a fast read, but a delight for readers of all ages. I think this is a great way to introduce young readers to Jane Austen.

This novel is about a young Jane Austen who investigates the haunting behind an abbey! This was a very fun and lighthearted series! This novel would be a great introduction for middle students learning Jane Austen! I recommend this for not only teens but also Jane Austen fans!

I enjoyed this read. It was full of adventure, lovable characters, and great vocabulary. It’s perfect for a pre-teen reader!

A fun new mystery series for fans of historical fiction. A young Jane Austen travels to become A lady’s companion in place of her older sister, Cassandra. Jane meets interesting characters and soon gets involved in solving a series of mysteries. This is a fun book for Jane Austen fans young and old. Jane is a strong female character with a sharp eye for details.

This one was so original! I loved the little deatails and intrigue joven in this misterios story with all the Austen vibes. The aithor meshed both ideas so well.

Jane Austen finds herself on quite the adventure when she is sent in her sister’s place to Southmoor Abbey to be Lady Cromwell’s companion for the week. According to rumors the abbey is haunted by the mad monk and it is up to Jane to find out if that’s true.

This book is the perfect middle grade read for fans of Jane Austen or for kids who like mystery books. The chapters are short and the story is easy to follow along. I loved the supporting characters in the book. I also enjoyed the little journal entries and letters that Jane write. Such a fun read!

I was prepared to suspend my disbelief on a young Jane Austen solving mysteries, but what surprised me was the modern notions Jane's character had. She thinks you should have to get a driver's license to drive a carriage?? Really??

I would rate this 3.75 out of 5 stars.

This was such a fun middle grade read! I really enjoyed Jane's character, the story wasn't overly dumbed down for younger readers but at the same time felt very age appropriate. I definitely look forward to picking up more in this series.

This is as if Northanger Abbey were a real story that happened to Jane herself. Jane gets sent to assist a family in preparation for their sons birthday by keeping the mistress company. While there she starts to explore the abbey ruins on the grounds in look for a supposed ghost. When something happens she decides that she must solve the mystery.

This was a fun novel but nothing amazing. If you are in need of a quick read this is not a bad one to grab.

This was such a fun middle-grade mystery that was absolutely amazing and I had so much fun reading this.

Jane was such a wonderful character and I really loved the idea of the author of one of my favorite books getting to live her own story by running around an abbey solving mysteries. Luke was also a brilliant character and I had so much love for him and I thought that his friendship with Jane was really sweet. Another I liked was that there was a character called Wickham and that Jane mirrored Lizzie, both from Pride and Prejudice as that book holds a special place in my heart and always will. And of course, all the other characters were well written and enjoyable and I really liked how they all developed over the book.

The mystery itself was incredibly interesting and I loved seeing Jane and Luke get up to mischief and solve the mystery that hung above their heads for the whole book. And of course all of the subplots that were introduced throughout the course of the plot and the drama that they created. It was well-paced and well written and I just enjoyed reading it and watching it all unfold. Plus, the ending set up the possibility of another book and that makes me very happy as I would gladly read more in this series.

The writing was wonderful as well, it was funny and Julia Golding created an amazing world that the book was set in. And I hope that I can become immersed in it once again soon.

I really appreciated this new take on Jane Austen. I also loved that it was geared towards younger readers. If this had been written when I was younger, I would have devoured them. As a teacher, I plan to share this novel (maybe series??) with my students.

Overwhelmingly, this one seems to have been enjoyed by the people that have picked it up. I, however, just found that I couldn't get into it - the writing style comes across as very young, but given the Regency period and the dialogue, it's like the story is being written aiming for older readers - perhaps 12 and up. This was just a bit confusing. Unfortunately, I also found the story to be a bit dull and I kind of found myself pushing to read a bit more.

Ultimately I've given up on this one, but I hope it finds an audience nonetheless!

"Jane Austen Investigates" seemed like a great book as it talks about one of my favourite authors. However, apart from a name, the two don't seem to have much in common.

This is a book aimed at a middle-school-aged readership. The idea of the book is cute, and I liked the setting - it is not often than a child book about mysteries takes place in the Georgian era! However, being a bit older than the intended readership, I did not full get into the book. I still think that children would enjoy it very much and learn interesting things about life in England in the late 18th century.

this was such a good read, I loved the idea of Jane Austen as a detective. It definitely kept the promise from the description, the characters were great and I had such a good time reading this.

What an absolutely delightful find! I am so glad that I was given the chance to read the start of this new series from NetGalley and Lion Hudson Ltd! Julia Golding has imagined a young 12 year old Jane Austen as an investigator.
It all starts off when Cassandra, Jane’s older sister, is invited to visit Southmoor Abbey for a week to be Lady Cromwell’s companion. Unfortunately, Cassandra has an accident which makes it impossible for her to go. Jane goes in her stead taking the family dog along with her. Several adventures occur due to having the dog with her.
I gave this four and a half stars, which I may round up to five. The ambiance is fantastic. The mystery is well-executed. I wish I had a niece who I could give this book to. The second book in this series is coming out soon. I can’t wait to read more.
