Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.

Not knowing much about Coco Chanel, except the World War 2 stories, I found this a fascinating read. Such a successful but ultimately tragic family. Antoinette is the perfect foil to her older sister's quest for fame and fortune and I found her to be a truly likeable character.

I would recommend this book for people who enjoy reading historical fiction about strong, determined women!!

Enlightening story of the Chanel sisters.
The background to Coco Chanel life is generally unknown, mainly due to Coco's own inventive past. The narrative written from her sister's Antoinette 's point of view was inspired letting the reader into the sercet world of the sisters.
Although slow at first, the story picked up into a fascinating read. To learn Lucho was pure fiction was really disappointing given the massive part he played in the book and apparent role in Antoinette's life.
Realising a novel of this nature- based on fact,-is always going have poetic licence, I accept accuracy will not be paramount. An arresting read will conquer absolute true.
I do feel I've learnt alot about the sisters, which would have been the author's intention.
Overall an entertaining, educational and entertaining read which I recommend.

This was actually a well written, engaging book about the lesser known Chanel sisters. Coco herself takes a backseat to Antoinette Chanel, a younger sister that was instrumental in the building of the Chanel brand. I'm a big fan of underdog stories and this one kept me interested all the way through to the author's note, which admitted that there is hardly any information on Antoinette aside from scattered mentions. Somehow this soured things for me as the bones of the story are for the most part fanciful with no real historical basis. It's a very good yarn though and was a solid quick read.

I loved this book. It’s the story of the early days of Chanel told from the younger sister’s perspective. If you are interested in fashion, Paris, Chanel, relationships, love try this book. You won’t be disappointed. I didn’t want it to end.

Admittedly I was drawn to request this book by its glamorous cover as it’s not my usual genre but Judithe Little pulled me in from the beginning with the introduction to the three Chanel sisters.
After their mother died of consumption their wandering rogue of a father took off and left the girls in an orphanage run by catholic nuns.
The nuns were harsh and raised the girls to believe that they were worthless and would certainly never achieve anything in life. But Gabrielle ( Coco ) and Antoinette ( Ninette ) were determined from a young age to better themselves.
They honed their sewing abilities at the orphanage and although they didn’t realise it then they had begun their journey.
This was a delightful story of determination, struggle, ambition and sorrow interspersed with love.
Thoroughly enjoyed the journey. '

This is a fascinating historical novel which is based on some facts and the gaps filled with fiction. The story of the Chanel sisters is narrated by the less well known Antionette and she gives an excellent voice to the rags to riches story and lasting fame of Gabrielle, better known as Coco Chanel.

This is a very enjoyable well written novel that is hard to put down. Particularly interesting is the convent orphanage where the girls learn to sew under the exacting standards of the nuns. The author portrays the girls as restless dreamers and shows how the ‘élégantes’ (chic) provided a contrast to their dull early lives and a reason to look for ‘Something better’ which becomes the girls watchword. The storytelling is rich, colourful and lively and depicts the periods of time from 1897 to 1921 really well. The descriptions of the effects of the First World War are especially good and parts of that are very emotional. It’s clear to see Coco’s ambition, she is unconventional and very ahead of her time especially as women at this time live in ‘cages’ which she does not intend to happen to her. Even female attire can be seen as a cage, hence Coco’s looser clothes designed for comfort as well as to accentuate the figure. I like the snapshots of society at their period of time and societies judgements which as an example is shown through what constitutes a suitable marriage. The sisters journey to success takes the reader to Paris, to Deauville and Biarritz showing how they start by selling hats which expands to clothing and finally to perfumery. I really like that the author chose to use Antoinette to tell the story as it allows us to view Coco more effectively. She is truly admirable for her business acumen, for her independence and for a legacy that lives on to this day.

Overall, an entertaining read which keeps you interested from start to finish.

With thanks to NetGalley and Headline for the arc for an honest review.

The Chanel sisters, Gabrielle known as Coco and Antoinette start life in a Catholic orphanage. There they are forced to sew in secret as it would be frowned upon because only the privileged were allowed. The story is told from the lesser known sister, Gabrielle, point of view.

I enjoyed the story. I love historical fiction and even better when I know the characters. Although I had only ever heard of Coco it was interesting to read about where they started in life and what they became. With a bit of romance, heartbreak, happiness and a bit of Chanel magic. I really enjoyed it.
