This is a YA book but although I don’t fall into that category of reader I still enjoyed this book. It is the second in the series and develops the world and the characters of the first book. Don’t let YA put you off, if you enjoy fantasy and romance this will have you hooked.

Betrayed is the second book in the Luxor Everstone series so read this review after reading Unveiled because there will be spoilers.

The Luxor Everstone series is a YA paranormal romance featuring Nephilim! Continuing on from Unveiled Betrayed follows the story of Luxor Everstone. Her powers are growing and evolving and are at times hard to control. On top of that being revealed as the daughter of the devil himself and Cane lying in wait it has required Luxor to have suffocating around the clock surveillance for her own safety.

Daher’s concept for this series is one of my favourites. I have a huge love of supernatural stories and particularly ones that feature the more obscure beings. The lore in this series is well constructed and really easy to be drawn into the world. The mystery is an added bonus and its combination with fantasy leads to an intriguing read.

Betrayed took a deeper approach to the characters and I really enjoyed the complexities that were revealed. Ayla and Hunter gave the plot an extra oomf but it was Theo who really intrigued me and I really wanted more of him throughout the book.

Betrayed is action packed with an appropriate amount of teen angst and deception for a YA book. It was nice to read a book about a teenager who acted their age and wasn't “aged up”. It is filled with plot twists that were surprising and kept me on my toes the entire book. It also left some things unanswered that have me waiting anxiously for the next book in the series.

This is the second book in the Chronicles of Luxor Everstone. Luxor was Unveiled in the first book and after all the drama and heartache that she went through she doesn't want to be close to anyone. She just wants space.
I appreciated getting more of Astrid and Orion's stories. Luxor's father is still after her and she doesn't know who to trust. Just as she gets close to someone she uncovers some untruth or betrayal, small or large that just chips away at her heart.
Luxor wants to be able to control her powers and those around her are trying to help her but all sides aren't truthful enough to be helpful. No one seems to understand what she is going through and is constantly making her out to be irrational. Typical teen behavior!
The relationship between Hunter and Luxor developed and grew even more. I will cross my fingers for them! There might have been a wedge that someone tried to place in between them, ok maybe a few wedges.
We get to meet some new characters and learn more about characters we met at the end of the first book. Some of the new characters have some cool abilities and very interesting personalities.
She was able to still go to school while investigating a bunch of stuff that was happening. Way better work ethic than I remember having with extracurriculars in high school.
It is really hard to not give anything away! So many things happen in this book you have to read more than the beginning to really get into all the action.
I was lucky enough to be able to read a partial early copy of this book but that doesn't bias my opinion.

Although I love reading YA, this book was maybe too YA for me, if that can be said. Lots of Twilight and Fallen vibes, or maybe I've read too many books on this genre lately.

Betrayed was absolutely sensational! Picking up from the first book, we follow Luxor's path and get a few surprises along the way.

This book is my favourite of the series and holds a lot more depth than the first one. It also raises a lot more questions which (I hope) will be answered in the next book.

There's a lot in this book, and it gets a lot more emotional towards the end. There was plenty of action, deceit and angst. The plot twists surprised me in a good and weird way, and just loke Luxor left me confused as to who to trust.

A lot of characters surprised me in the book, and some changed my mind whereas others didn't. Ayla, Hunter. It was like a whirlwind to figure out these characters, but the one that surprised me the most was Theo. I'm intrigued by his character and hope to find out more about him.

This book was action-packed. It was fantastical stuff that nightmares were made of. If anything, it did not make me envy Luxor at all. All I wanted to do was higher and take her out of the nightmare that was her life. It was very intense.

And Meredith. I am very curious about Meredith.

Betrayed was an intense, action-packed, fantastical mystery of a read with a lot of angst and emotional moments. Reading more of Luxor's life was very intriguing anf addictive, and I cannot wait to read more of her story.

What's next for Luxor, I'm intrigued but scared for her at the same time.

Unfortunately, I struggled to get into this. Book one was okay, but I think it set me up to not be fully into this one. I’m reading good reviews, so give it a shot, but this just wasn’t for me. Personally, I feel these stories drag on a little too long than necessary and it’s hard to stay engaged.

But I do give 5 stars to this BEAUTIFUL cover! It's what pulled me into this series to begin with.

The premise sounds intriguing. Which is what originally drew me to the book. Sadly I didnt want to read this and review this unless I had read the first book. I will come back to this eventually when I can get my hands on the first book, Unveiled.
