Gloriously unapologetically slushy romance that leaves you daft-grinning and longing for a message in a window. Cheered me right up!

A really fun story and I love a good romance book, this ticked all the boxes. Mia was so relatable and I love how real her character is. I loved the comedy of this as well as the romance, I don't like romance books to be smooth sailing all the way through. And this book had bumps in the road, Some parts were cheesy but I loved it.

This is a good romantic read. I liked the country girl coming to the city of Manchester to be herself. The book sweeps you away in realistic romance that pulls at the heart strings and make s you want to turn the page. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me review this book.

This is a really amusing book that can really entertain the reader. Kathryn Freeman delivers with her quill and gives us promises for a great career. This book screams a best-seller!!!

Fun, but full of angst, Freeman delivers a story with a good mix of drama, humor, and feels.

I've seen quite a few complaints about how often Mia is talked about as being "different" than the other girls. It didn't bother me as such, I just saw it as part of how poorly she thought of herself and ties directly to her past troubles on the romance front. She's got all sorts of issues, with believing in herself & in others, and it creates plenty of ups & downs. But with patience, and help, she may figure it out.

It's enjoyable getting to know Luke as Mia does, seeing how he's turned into the good time guy he is today and the big-heart that he hides underneath his easy smile. He's fun and funny, a good friend and has plenty of potential to be a great partner. While the reformed rake is an oft-used romance plot, I felt that Freeman does it pretty well. We understand why he's the way he is and that he's just been waiting for the right person to shake him up, to get him to see his life a little differently, and to want something more.

You definitely have to be in the mood for a bit of drama to enjoy Freeman's latest. Both Mia and Luke have been burned in the past and are letting it affect their current romantic choices - trust issues, ex issues, self-esteem problems ... the road to a HEA has quite a few bumps but Mr Right Across the Street delivers plenty of smiles as well!

(I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.)

Thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, and Netgalley for my e-book copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review. I was thrilled to find a fun escapism read, amidst the stress of the pandemic and join in a One More Chapter read along event.

Mr Right Across the Street follows Mia who moves to Manchester to start over and who has currently sworn off men. She can't help but notice the hottie in the apartment across the way, who seems to work out like clockwork at 10AM every day in front of his window.

Enter Luke, said hottie, who works at the bar down the street. Luke is immediately taken with Mia when she enter his bar, but she doesn't give him the time of day. He comes up with a plan to write notes in his window, to capture her attention.

It's fun and romantic, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

This book was sent to me as an ARC from NetGalley. However all opinions are of my own.
A really lovely good romance filled book. I loved the development of the characters and how engaged I was with them all. The relationship between Mia and Luke was really enjoyable to watch blossom. It was also nice to see the relationship between Grace and Mia and it being a positive one.
I also really loved the backstory of Stan and Naomi I would have liked to have known what happened between them just because of how nice it was to see that they were interacting with each other but it was quite a hidden backstory. The proposal was really cute and I thought it was done in a really really nice way. I enjoyed the ending and it was definitely worth a five star in my opinion.

Kathryn Freeman is the queen of feel-good contemporary romance and she is back with another stellar rom-com I absolutely loved: Mr Right Across the Street.

Mia Abbot had waved her old life goodbye and moved to Manchester for a fresh start and a new beginning. In Manchester, Mia hoped to put the past behind her once and for all and to not make the same catastrophic mistakes ever again. Mia plans to be more cautious with her heart this time round, however, she hadn’t counted on the drop dead gorgeous guy who lives opposite her who works out every day at exactly 10 am – not that she pays him much attention, of course! With her less than impressive dating history, Mia has no plans to lose her heart again, but when the hot guy who lives across the street begins to leave notes in his window for her, she cannot help but wonder whether she should take a chance on love all over again…

Bar owner Luke Doyle has got his own problems to contend with, but he simply cannot resist showing Mia the sights of the city – but their friendship quickly leads to something neither one of them was expecting! As their feelings for one another deepen, Mia and Luke start falling head over heels in love with one another, but with their respective pasts still weighing heavily on both their shoulders, will they find the courage to take a chance on love? Or will their insecurities and fears keep them from embracing this chance at happiness?

Kathryn Freeman’s name on a book cover is enough for me to know that I’m getting a first class contemporary romance that ticks all the right boxes and delivers on all counts – and Mr Right Across the Street is definitely no exception. Brilliantly written and sparkling with witty repartee, laugh out loud humour and intense emotional drama, Mr Right Across the Street is a tale about second chances, taking a leap of faith and falling in love which I could not stop reading.

Kathryn Freeman is one of the best writers in the business and with Mr Right Across the Street, she has once again penned another superb page-turner readers will absolutely adore!

This was a cute and fun book! Some of Mia's insecurities can be annoying but adults can be insecure too so I guess I get it. I wish a little bit that Mia hadn't been so much "not like other girls." It seemed like she wasn't into anything that women traditionally like and that's what made her "the one." Slightly crazy but still fabulous
Mia has moved to Manchester to escape her obsessed ex boyfriend. In the flat opposite her is Luke who is also the local bar owner and who is interested in Mia right from the start
I liked Mia, although I will admit that I struggled with her at times. I get that she is incredibly insecure but she also jumps to conclusions so often that I end up going “seriously!!” in my head. Despite this, Mia takes to moving to a new area really well and builds a circle of people around her who are there for her when she needs them. She develops a lot throughout the book, becoming more trusting and more loveable, by the end of the book I really liked her
I loved Luke, he is handsome, charming, and incredibly good at his job. He likes Mia but is aware that he has to earn her trust before things can really develop between them. Luke’s personality changes as his character develops but that really works and he becomes more of a rounded person
Because of Mia’s issues in the past she won’t give Luke her phone number so they start communicating through messages in their windows and some of these really made me smile and it allowed their relationship to develop at their own pace without the stresses of modern technology
Overall I really enjoyed reading this book, the characters and story caught my attention right from the start and I was desperate to find out what would happen next
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy a romance set around a new start with characters who will capture your heart

Mr Right Across the Street was entertaining romance that revolved around Mia and Luke living across the street. It was about settling in new place, finding friends, getting over insecurities, not giving past or anyone power over you, trust, faith, and love.

Writing was fast paced, gripping and entertaining. Story was written in third person narrative from alternative perspective of Luke and Mia. Plot was interesting flowed naturally with lovely characters, some drama some banter and lots of romance. I’m not summarising how it started as review is already too long without it. It was interesting to find out if Mia was really ready to give another relationship a go, if she can trust Luke not to end up like her past disastrous relationships.

I absolutely loved secondary characters. There were many secondary characters. I enjoyed knowing Mia and Luke’s family. Her sister Elle, Stan- Mia’s grumpy sixty something neighbour and first friend in city, Naomi- café owner, Sandy- Luke’s best friend and employee, Phil- Luke’s older brother and accountant of his bar. They all were breath of fresh air. There were many other characters and they all were fun to read. I enjoyed Mia and Luke’s conversation with all secondary characters.

If you like your hero all toned and muscled, hot and dishy to look at, you are in for treat. Luke was great character. His first impression was undatable, uncaring and shallow but he was more than what he appeared to be. I loved his back story that was revealed in second half of the book. It showed his true self who wasn’t as strong as his muscles. He hid heartbreak and what he lost behind always smiling face. His way of going through all pain and heartbreak was not right and it made him shallow, selfish and guilty but I liked the way he changed that path after he met Mia and realised what truly falling for someone was and I loved how he mended loose ends and persuaded Mia patiently, respecting her wish. He was cool, vulnerable and loyal with heart of gold.

Mia was website developer. She was smart, nerdy, care-free and kind, and good person. I liked how quickly she made friends. It was great she was learning from past mistake by taking things slow with Luke, pretending friends even though in her heart she knew she liked him a lot until she was absolutely sure she could trust him. But that trust thing took sooo long really. Half of the time I agreed with her, yes it was hard to trust the guy who was into many casual relationships and thought it didn’t affect women he was with, who didn’t share his problems as friends or shared past even after showing thousands of times he loved her. Half the time I disagreed with her. I will talk about it along with negative points.

What I loved most was the setting of Luke’s green themed bar ‘The Bar Beneath’ which was literally beneath his flat, cocktails Luke created, and Luke and Mia’s non-dates that described amazing places of Manchester.

Chemistry was crackling like soda in cocktail. Firework was there from the beginning but Luke and specially Mia tried to fizzle it out until they no longer could. Their pretend friendship was honestly ridiculous, I mean what was the pint when you knew in real you felt more than just friends but it sure added more entertainment. Romance was hot and banter between them was cute. What I loved most was Luke giving Mia nickname based on different colours she used to dye streak of her hair and their conversation through window, not the idea, but the symbols Luke used.

Twist and turns were good. Most of them I could see coming, I could predict who Grace was but not any other part of Luke’s history. Climax was interesting. I didn’t like Mia’s over reaction. The way Phil gave perspective made her right to react in such way but I do feel she should have seen through what was happening between her and Luke and why before she heard it from third person. I liked the way she realised her mistake and didn’t tell on that person when things became right between her and Luke at the end. End was lovely and I loved how Luke proposed Mia.

Why 3.5 stars-

I didn’t like stereotypical teenage-ish comment ‘cool guys don’t date nerd girls’, Mia kept saying ‘how can cool guy like Luke would want to be with nerd like her?’ I mean you are thirty now so grow out of those thoughts.

Also, those consistent comments from both Luke and Mia on comparing Mia’s uncaring t-shirt look with ‘long legs, tight dress and make-up wearing women’ and saying these types were throwing themselves on Luke and Luke slept with them as they were easy, uncomplicated, undemanding and only wanted sex and nothing else was not cool. I also didn’t like the first reason Luke had for liking Mia was because she was not like these women as in appearance.

Mia was frustrating. As I said I didn’t like her view half the time. She judged Luke without even knowing about him properly. She kept avoiding saying she loved him, didn’t give her number or house number, in short did everything that said in big bold letters ‘I don’t trust you enough and still would have relationship with you but you have to prove to me you real love me and justify your past casual relationships’. I don’t know how much Luke had to prove to her that he loved her. I mean who can give a sure shot guarantee their relationship will last forever! She was too judgemental towards Luke who honestly didn’t deserve her unfair treatment.

Overall, Mr Right Across the Street was entertaining, enjoyable, and fun romance. If you can overlook those comments on dress, appearance, and nerd vs cool, it was perfectly refreshing and feel good read.

Mia moves to Manchester and works from home. Across from her flat, she can see into the window of bar owner Luke. She enjoys watching him workout but never expects to meet him. She meets him in his bar and they strike up a friendship as Luke shows her around the city. This is a friends-to-lovers story.

I enjoyed reading this. I liked seeing the relationship between Mia and Luke develop. I thought that the two characters had good chemistry. I did feel that it took me a while to get into this story as it was quite slow, to begin with.

Overall this was an enjoyable fun read.

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you.

Book review -I adored this book for many reasons. Firstly, I enjoyed getting to know all the characters. Secondly, I find leaving handwritten notes, the loveliest thing ever and when it’s from the opposite sex it sure is romantic. I loved this element of the story.

Along with a sweet, slow burn romance, that was funny, full of easy banter, add some hot chemistry and it was the perfect Romcom!

Mia was brave and strong to move away from her family, especially with her past. I felt she let her past rule her head too much and was glad when she finally started having some fun and not just working. I admired her spirit and the way she knew her own mind. How she didn’t do things, just to join in with the crowd. I without a doubt loved the relationship she had with her sister Elle. Elle was great, the way she didn’t hold back…. she is definitely like my sister! Their phone calls made me laugh out loud, Elle was literally loving all the updates of Mr hot working out across the street.

Luke was more than just good looks, he was charming, funny and romantic. I felt for him throughout and really wanted him to sort out his issues and luck be on his side. Lucky, he had a great support network, who were all equally amazing.

I really did not like Freya at all and cannot stand conniving and manipulating women like her! Her ways were awful and just no need for it. I do not know how she managed it…. some men really are silly. As you can tell she made me angry ha-ha! Team Mia all the way

I adored the dates and thought they were very creative and not just your standard dinner and drinks, as much as I love dinner and drinks. These had a fun element to it. The dancing date was my favourite. I loved reading about the little touches, the looks, it really made you feel that spark between the characters.

I feel Stan also deserved a mention as he was hilarious, his dry sense of humour was brilliant. His banter and easy friendship with Mia were great. As was Naomi. Who I feel everyone needs a friend like her, wise and lovely.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, I now need to go and check out more of her books as I need more romance and laugher like this..

A very sweet British romance about Mia, who moves to a new town and hits it off with the owner of the bar across the street from her new flat. I loved that there were a few unexpected twists in the story.

3.5☆ An Enjoyable Rom Com

Mr Right Across The Street is an Enjoyable, will they won't they romance.

When Mia moves to Manchester to escape her ex, she never expects to find someone she likes. She feels she has alot to prove and she definitely has her guard up. She comes across as having alot of insecurities that hinders her  relationships.

But then Mia meets the charming Luke and never expects him to like someone like her.  After all he certainly has the playboy persona. Or is there more to him than meets the eye.

What follows is some flirting, a budding friendship and most definitely a sprinkle of chemistry!  If only Mia can see how much Luke cares!

Mia for me wasn't particularly likeable, her character at times Grated on me.
Luke however was a star, how he kept trying to prove himself to Mia was impressive many would have given up.

Overall Mr Right Across The Street was an entertaining and enjoyable read. I love Freeman's books, but unfortunately this one is not one of my favourites.

British rom-com chick-lits are a favourite of mine, and Mr Right Across the Street by Kathryn Freeman fits right in with what I adore. It's unusual, witty, fun, and has a deceptive amount of depth to the characters.

Mia has moved to Manchester to both escape a bad relationship (that won't leave her alone), and to start fresh. Mia is written in a way that makes her feel so real - yes, she's a software engineer/coder, but that doesn't mean that she can't function in society. She's bright, guarded, funny, and needing time to figure out how to be single.

Luke owns the local bar and is navigating the shift that come from working the bar to owning the bar. His life is more complicated than he lets on, so he's not here for anything serious. A flirt by trade, with a history of casual fun with a plethora of willing partners, Mia sends him for a loop.
She's different, and won't stop shutting him down.
Mia doesn't want to be someone's fling, to be used and discarded, to join the ranks of women vying for his attention at the bar. So she says no.

But as in any rom-com, it doesn't stay that way for long. Luke starts taking Mia out on non-dates, showing her around town, but just as she warms up and wants to start letting him be something more than the bloke in the flat across, Luke's past is determined to get in the way.

Fun, unique, and well written. A great read for when you want to finish a book with a smile on your face.

I am such a huge fan of Kathryn Freeman. Having already read The New Guy, Up Close and Personal and A Little Christmas Hope, I knew I was going to love this one just as much! The story is centred around Mia and Luke. Mia has relocated her whole life to Manchester. Hoping that a fresh start will mean she can put her crazy stalker of an ex boyfriend in the past. Luke is the owner of the bar close to where Mia lives. He is also the guy that Mia watches in her apartment block across the street from her every morning working out!

Turning up in Luke’s bar one Saturday evening, the 2 of them get on really well together. Mia is very wary of Luke, and doesn’t want to get into another relationship so soon. After talking all night, she agrees to help Luke with a new website for the bar. In return, he agrees to show her the fun sites of Manchester – just as friends.

As the ‘friend-dates’ continue, both Mia and Luke realise it’s more than just friends. With lots of twists and turns and unexpected events, can Mia and Luke ever be more than just friends? Mr Right Across the Street is a fun and flirty romance story, full of laughs, giggles and lots of fun. A perfect sweet and refreshing romance story to curl up and read.
