I have never had the pleasure of reading a Jeffrey Deaver novel before, but I certainly plan on reading more of his work after being drawn into The Final Twist. This is an action-packed thriller that will draw you in from the start. Despite not having read the previous two books in this series, it works well even if, like me, you haven’t read the earlier books. I still found it an enthralling read.

It has great characters, plenty of surprises and keeps you on the edge of your seat as the suspense and drama escalates. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you desperate to find out what happens to Colton Shaw next. On a very personal case to expose a corporate espionage firm, Colton plans to continue where his father left off. The firm is responsible for hundreds of deaths and Colton learns he has only 48 hours to solve his latest case and try to prevent murder.

A gripping thriller you won’t want to miss!

Good read.

A long-time fan of Deaver’s quirky, twisty mysteries I was pleased to see the introduction of a new crime fighter, Colter Shaw in The Never Game. Shaw finds missing people, ostensibly for the rewards offered by friends or family members, though he often fails to collect the this. It also kicked off what was to be an ongoing quest for information regarding the death of his rather odd survivalist father. Book 2, The Goodbye Man, expanded the mystery regarding his father and brought a new case for Shaw, as he entered the enclave of a cult leader in an attempt to ‘rescue’ someone who had been tempted in.

This third book promised to tie up loose ends as Shaw continued to chase down clues that his father had left behind. We are re-introduced to a group of odd but sinister characters who are in some way tied to his father’s death. And Shaw’s brother makes a welcome appearance to aid Colter in his quest - it’s pretty much all action from the start. It’s good fun too and feels a little tongue-in-cheek as one twist follows another in this helter-skelter race to finally unearth the truth.

There’s an additional element to this story, that of the race to save a family they learn is in peril of execution by a hit man, but this feels a little bolted on and unnecessary to me. The main story is however satisfying, in a very Deaveresque way. You know that nothing will be quite as it seems and that slight of hand and general trickery is the name of the game, so the ‘surprises’ aren’t really that surprising. But the interesting cast of misfits and the well maintained pace of the whole caper was enough to maintain my interest throughout.

I’m not sure if we’ll see Shaw again or whether this is the end of the line for this character. I think his race is run, but as always with this writer you never know quite what’s around the corner.

Love this series, Mr Deaver has created a new character with a fantastic story line that is brilliant read in all of the published books in the series. This book is crafted so well it is almost impossible to put down. Brilliant story line, executed with skill and finely polished editing, it is one of the best books I have read this year and I recommend it to you unhesitatingly for its character development, thoughtful dialogue and brilliant weaving into the series, can’t wait for the next book.

I’ve loved the Colter Shaw series up until now, even reading every Novella just to get my fix of a great lead character in a great new twist on what is a ultimately a very saturated genre. Unfortunately I just failed to connect with this book.

I’m really not entirely sure why that is. I continue to love Colter Shaw’s character arc, with the introduction of his brother and the continuation of his relationship with Victoria. But I think I was hoping for something a little fresh closer to the start (the new case was only introduced about a quarter of the way through). I appreciate that the backstory took center stage, and rightly so, but I think it could have been a little more balanced. Apart from that Colter seemed to fluctuate between extremes a little too much. From getting the wool pulled over his eyes and getting saved from certain death numerous times (the book 2 character seemed way unnecessary), to completely outsmarting and outwitting his oppositions on numerous other occasions.

Anyway, I am sure I will be back.

The Final Twist by Jeffery Deaver is the third book in the Colter Shaw series and it was a fascinating story. Sometimes I think that Jeffery Denver’s writings are very understated and then something totally unexpected happens and the main character, in this series Colter Shaw, has killed or restrained the bad guy before you even realised the character was about to maim, kill or kidnap one of the characters. I have enjoyed reading the Colter Shaw series for the storyline, the characters and the sheer joy of life and living and being on the good side.
Highly recommended

I do love a Jeffery Deaver book, and "The Final Twist" is a reminder of why. There's a fast pace, great characters (Colter Shaw is exceptional!), and a crackingly good plot. I don't need to tell you the writing is of the highest quality, do I?! There are so many twists in this book. A few I saw coming, many I did not, and some that threw me completely off-course! I truly hope this isn't the last we see of Colter.

This review was written voluntarily and is entirely my own, unbiased, opinion. My thanks to @RandomTTours

In this book we meet the enigmatic Colter Shaw again, who is up against BlackRidge, who he blames for his father's death. Although the book continues the story, it does stand alone and is a pacy and good read. The characters are well rounded, and while Colter is a little obsessive with his probability calculations, he does come over as a good guy. The stakes are high, particularly as he is also trying to find a missing girl.

He uses his unique talents, honed from a childhood spent with a survivalist family, to try to outwit the company and discover what his father had left behind.

I enjoyed the book very much. Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Final Twist is another addictive and entertaining thriller from Jeffery Deaver. I always look forward to this author’s books as they are always amazing and this book was no exception.

Firstly I really like the main character in this book who helps give the book an unusual edge to it. His unusual upbringing has given him some unusual skills which help make him an intriguing investigator as well as a slightly unpredictable enemy as your never sure how he’ll get out of situations. The author manages to describe events so that at times it felt like I was Shaw and I was experiencing things as he did which I thought was very clever.

This book gripped me from the first page and I found the book very hard to put down as there was always lots of action to ensure I was glued to the page. There were lots of twists and plenty of misdirection that made the book a very exciting read. Just when I thought I’d figured things out something would happen to send the story in a completely different direction which I always enjoy.

This is the third book in the trilogy and while it could perhaps be read as a standalone it’s probably best to read the books in order so that you get more background about what has been so far.

Huge thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me onto the blog tour and to Harper Collins for my copy of this book via netgalley.

The Final Twist is the third in the Colter Shaw series and it’s a book I’ve been looking forward to since the moment I finished The Goodbye Man. I love the character of Colter, a reward hunter who doesn’t often get the reward, picking lost causes rather than flashy paydays. It’s fascinating following Colters thoughts as he analysis and breaks down the seemingly dire situations he finds himself in, using the survival training his father taught him to out manoeuvre the enemy. I raced through this, eager to see if Colter finally got the answers he needed and it was just as thrilling as I’d hoped. The characters are all well written and fleshed out, even if they only feature in a few pages. There are so many twists yet they are all vital, plausible and afterwards you realise, inevitable. I’m unsure if Deaver intends this to be the final book for Colter but I truly hope not as they are amazing stories and I could see Colter Shaw going onto have the same success and fan base as Lincoln Rhymes.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series based on Colter Shaw and the legacy that his father left him. His Dad became convinced a big corporation would stop at nothing to achieve their criminal objectives. In the process some of his Father’s colleagues died suspiciously and so the Shaw family relocated for their own safety and lived off grid.

Years later Colter is using his survivalist skills to work as a reward agent, including, finding missing children for desperate parents.

However, he hasn’t lost sight of his father’s quest to find evidence against the company that ultimately killed his dad and will not rest until he finishes his dad’s mission.

Events take him to San Francisco which forms a great backdrop and a dangerous location for this action thriller. The writing is fresh and compelling. It maintains your interest in short chapters and competing plot directions with a range of larger than life, but believable characters.

Colter is ready to risk everything to gain revenge and closure of this torrid business group that continues to kill indiscriminately. He is confronted by enemies who will not rest until they eliminate any evidence against them and who always plays dirty. When they ruthlessly threaten to murder a whole family Colter has need for support which he gets from an unlikely source.

The bottom line is he must succeed not just for past events but as his whole extended family is now threatened due to his involvement.

Griping a an original plot; drawing on threats from recent cases Colter Shaw had been involved with, we find a determination to overcome and finish the task his father left him.

Facing a “Bond like villain”, rich and powerful, we see Shaw thinking on his feet to take down his nemesis. The action is intense and the story remains fast-paced to the last page.

The Final Twist is the final book in the Colter Shaw series. This book continues straight on from the events in The Goodbye Man, where Colter Shaw has discovered cryptic messages from his father who was killed years before while investigating the corrupt organisation BlackBridge.

While following up on the leads left by his father, Shaw finds himself caught up in several different investigations. One in particular involving someone from his past who has lead an equally unusual life, but the pair work well together as they face some of the toughest criminals they have had to fight.

Shaw is a really interesting character, very meticulous and his upbringing (with a survivalist father) has obviously left its mark. He leads a very strange life as a reward seeker and is unlike any other fictional investigators I have read. In my opinion, it is his character which makes these books so unique and entertaining.

This particular story is very detailed and intricate, the individual investigations, including a kidnapping and a historical political mystery, could each have their own book, but are all woven together in a way that just works. The Final Twist has everything I have come to expect from a Jeffery Deaver thriller - extreme action, high-intensity confrontations, plenty of twists and turns and villains that you love to hate. I just hope that even though this is the last book in the trilogy, that this isn't the last we hear from Colter Shaw!

This is the third book in this series with a few inbetweenies too. Where it is not really necessary to have read all the shorts, I would recommend that you do read the two proceeding main books prior to this one as there is a lot of back story that is resolved herein and, although some is explained, you'll do better with the complete big picture, in my opinion anyway.
So, Colter Shaw is still on the trail of finding out what happened to his father. His previous investigations have led him to try and track down a person who he believes in involved. This has, in turn, sent him to a location which, when we first catch up with him, he is just about to investigate. Long story short, he is interrupted in his endeavours by a chance(?) meeting with older brother Russel with whom he has been estranged since like ages, after he accused him of something quite horrible. Something he now believes to be untrue. Although the relationship is still a bit sour, there are bigger fish to fry and the two brothers decide to put aside all that family stuff for the bigger picture. To find out what happened to their father, and resolve what he was up to when he was killed...
This is quality Deaver from start to finish. Those of you who are familiar with this author will know what I am saying, if not then you are in for a treat - after playing catch-up first obviously! It is so tightly and well plotted that even me, a veritably aficionado of the genre is hit by shock after shock that I didn't see coming. No mean feat these days, I can tell you! And so refreshing in these days of similar offerings.
There's a lot of action packed into the pages. And unlike most books, I am easily able to see it being played out in my mind's eye - am not usually a visual reader at all. Also a refreshing change. I'd love this to become a TV series by the way if any screenwriters are reading!
Colter Shaw is fast becoming a favourite character of mine too but I have mixed emotions with this as I have heard that this was only ever intended as a trilogy and that is kinda reflected in the resolution we get at the end of this book. That said, I really hope not. Maybe we can revisit Colter's past and more of his reward based shenanigans. Or even what Colter did next! I feel he has way more to give as a character and I will really miss him if he just fades away.
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Once again another great outing for Colter Shaw. I do enjoy this series and especially the introduction of Russell this time round. The storyline was believable and covered some not topics of the day. The only issue that I had with this book was in the ending was slightly too long, but other than that a sterling read and hopefully there will be a further installment soon.

Colter Shaw is following in the footsteps on his father, coming up against the company that was responsible for his death and racing against time to save the life of a family who he does not know, but who will be killed if he doesn't get to them first.
I'm a fan of the Colter Shaw books and I very much enjoyed this one. As usual there was A LOT of action but there were some additional characters who fleshed out the loner Colter nicely-not least the surprise appearance of his brother! I can happily recommend this.

This is the third outing for Colter, and it’s just as good if not better than the previous books. This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.

Lincoln Rhyme, Kathryn Dance, Location Scout...and now Colter Shaw. Every series that Jeffery Deaver embarks on is fascinating and, although Lincoln Rhyme is the standout, Shaw is pretty damn good too! Rewards are his raison d'etre but here he is also working on a case closer to home, which involved his late father, and which brings his elusive brother onto the scene. Fast-paced and enthralling, this is yet another Deaver success

My thanks to NetGalley and publisher HarperCollins UK for the ARC.

I really enjoy the Colter Shaw series and this latest didn't disappoint. It's been some time since his eccentric father, Ashton, had been killed at their compound at Echo Ridge - an event which Colter blamed on his brother Russell who then disappeared. Finding a letter Ashton had written to him to explain some of his obsessions, Colter is now on a mission to complete his father's search for hidden evidence of the activities of BlackBridge in connection with the Urban Improvement Plan. At least, that what he thinks, until things become very much more complicated as a more sinister plot which, if it succeeds, could affect millions of people and the entire governance of not only the state but the country as a whole.
Colter is extremely resourceful but an unexpected twist gives him an equal, if not superior partner, tackling the dangers of messing with powerful people.

This has a complex and totally absorbing plot-line. Excellent writing.

This is the third full length novel I have read in this series as well as a couple of novellas and although I enjoy Jeffery Deaver books I have struggled to really get into Colter Shaw. I really enjoyed the second book ‘The Goodbye man’ but the others have failed to capture my imagination. I am a big fan of the Lincoln Rhyme books but I think it is probably time for me to give up on Colter Shaw. It is obvious from the reviews I have read that these books are very popular with other readers but I failed to make that connection.

Colter Shaw is once again looking for a missing person but this time he has the added incentive that it might explain the disappearance of his own father. He starts by following the clues his father left behind which leads him into trouble only to be rescued by his brother Russell. Having not seen each other for ten years they decide to continue the search together.

An ok read but not in my top 10 Deaver novels.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Colter Shaw works for rewards. He’s an unusual man, taught from an early age how to look after himself and not trust anyone. Hes on a mission to take down the people who killed his father, and this happens to coincide with a plot that will turn the country on its head. And he gets help from a very unexpected quarter.

This is the third outing for Colter, and it’s just as good if not better than the previous books. It’s an excellent read, beautifully put together and so plausible. I enjoyed the characters, who are well written, with great back stories, even the baddies were good. The plot twists, including the title name, are deftly handled and there are plenty of them. Thoroughly enjoyed this, if a little scared at the fact it could really be true. Roll on Colters next outing.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
