SHE TOOK THE CAT! This book made me feel so much, angry, happy, sad, wistful, butterflies, and a deep sense of satisfaction at the complicated ending. It doesn't fall into the easy trap of wrapping up all the complexities into a nice bow, and I really appreciated the honesty of that move. My first Laura novel, and I'll be back for more.

Hilarious and yet also heartbreakingly honest I absolutely could not put this book down, nor did I want to, as I fell more in love with the story as every page passed by.

An entirely unlikeable heroine, unfortunately, and I just couldn't get on board with how she tries to win back the love of her cheating ex-girlfriend by making her reminisce about their past and good memories... Just couldn't feel I could stick through it with this kind of vibe, and in the end, it really wasn't my jam

Tried reading this one and it just was not meant for me at the time. This does not mean that it is not a good book, I just was not in the right place to be reading it and have decided to not try picking it up anytime in the near future.

This is a cute little romcom and I enjoyed the sapphic element to it as well, as I found this added an extra dimension. The characters are very sweet and relatable and they reminded me A bit of Beth O'Leary books I have enjoyed, such As The Flat Share.

This was such a refreshing book, full of humour, emotion and relatable characters. I really enjoyed this and will be looking out for more from this author

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book, unfortunately I wasn’t able to get to it before it was archived but will review in full when I do.

Thank you to Netgalley and to the publisher for giving me this eARC to review.

I will say that I read this a while ago but my review seemed to never go through so I am having to give this review trying to remember a lot of what happened but I do remember how I felt about the book.

I really like the friendship that was explored in this book and I really liked how it was set in Sheffield as it is on my doorstep (so to speak). I didn't really like Ally as her actions are pretty terrible and a lot of the book was her moping about her ex. I think if you want a more friend-focused book then this is for you.

I have been picking up and putting down this book so many times and I just cant get on with it. All the ingredients should work for me, but ultimately it doesnt. I think it might be because of the lonnnng chapters. I am going to give her next book a go though.

Really grew on me and enjoyed the fun of the characters through their life challenges (and running).

The formatting of the book (early release?) was a struggle sometimes, but the story itself was quite unique and had an entertaining realistic main character is 'Al' that I really enjoyed reading her journey - ups, downs, complete confusion.

A heartwarming romcom, the power of friendship and self belief. A perfect 'womens fiction' novel but make it queer.

This was a great book! Loved the lgbtq rep and Jeremy was such a great character. I love how flawed everyone was but also how relatable this made them! Loved it.

There aren’t many books that make me laugh out loud, but The Split did just that - and more than once. It doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a book with much to laugh about. I mean, Ally is dumped by her girlfriend who is already seeing someone else, she’s having a career crisis after managing to escape teaching, and she moves back in with her dad in Sheffield - which is a long way from London. At the last minute, Ally impulsively takes the cat - Emily’s cat. I think this surprises Ally too, as the cat doesn’t seem to like anyone, least of all Ally.

So not the cheeriest subject, but the way it was written - and the narration by Imogen Church - was what made me empathise with Ally. And the situations Ally found herself in were so relatable. I felt really mean laughing at her and Jeremy going out for their first few runs, but they were hilarious (and I’ve been there too!).

I even found myself talking to Ally (should I own up to this, and the fact that I was wearing headphones at the time?!), and was helpfully reminded by the 17 year old, that telling a fictitious character not to email her ex-girlfriend was pretty pointless. I stand by what I said though!

I loved this book, and it brightened my day for a week of dog walks and (the dreaded) dinner preparation!
Recommended!
Many thanks to Quercus for my original e-copy (even though I listened to it on Audible!).

A bit late to the party but I loved it.

Ally at times could give me secondhand embarrassment but at other times have me giggling to myself. I loved Jeremy and Ally’s friendship, the support and calling each other out was just what I needed.

I just wish it didn’t end so abruptly, it felt a tad slow at times but other than that, a great read.

I really liked this cover when I saw it on Netgalley and the blurb sounded fun so I requested a copy. I then suggested to my work Book Club that we give it a try for Pride Month.

This story follows Ally as she learns how to move on from long term girlfriend Emily. I didn't enjoy all the moping about exes in this book. Both Ally and Jeremy for me focused too much on getting back with their ex's. I'm very against those relationships where people break up and get back together like a million times. If something isn't working it's time to move on. I know I can be a bit harsh on the subject but that's just how I feel.

Emily, I wasn't the biggest fan of Emily. It seemed like she wanted everything on her terms. I did feel a little sympathy for her at times but overall I didn't want Ally to get back with her.

Ally and Jeremy's friendship was a really strong point in this book for me. I was so happy to see this develop over the story and their runs were great to read. I really enjoyed the training. I found these scenes really funny.

Normally I would really enjoy the emails as it's something a little different but Ally just came across as desperate in them so I found them irritating.

Overall I found this book funny and entertaining. It was an enjoyable light read.

I loved the LGBT representation in this book, and it was chock full of cute animals too.

I found the characters quite difficult to like or to read at times, especially Emily.

If you're not a fan of a cheating plot point this isn't the book for you.

This book is funny and heart warming. Its about relationships and who ultimately gets the pet when it dissolves. The characters were great and although its not usually my type of book I really enjoyed it.

THIS WAS SO GOOD. Okay am not a romance fan at all but this had enough pettiness n loveliness that I didn't even care. Well-paced, cute as heck, n sapphic. Would recommend!

What I loved:
- funny, full of heart
- Ally had a Very Excellent Dad
- I do enjoy a 'finding self' arc
- found family!
- Ally is kind of a knob, n it was very enjoyable. She's petty and self-involved, but who isn't after a breakup??
- mental ill health rep
- lesbian, bi, and gay rep - and NOT about queer suffering
- enjoy late 20s messy-but-sympathetic characters

What I Didn't Love:
- sometimes Ally was too cringe
- sometimes Emily was too blunt (heh)
- feel it was missing a lil something?? Would I have preferred it with no love interest?? Who knows.

Big thanks to the author, netgalley, and Quercus books for the eARC!

Thank you Netgalley and Quercus Books for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review!

This book is fun and light but the characters annoyed me too much. A bunch of late twenty years old acting like teenagers. Making bad and even out-of-the-line decisions about their relationships without thinking they were hurting other people. But the friendship between Ally and Jeremy was nice to see and the relationship between Ally and her father too!
