Faking it by Portia Macintosh

Ella’s life is a constant roller coaster from the beginning as the less than perfect identical twin . The said twin needs you young be her! Ella must live the perfect life being Emma and experience how the other half live being the perfect model housewife and all ups and downs.

A well written and joy to read. The characters full of life. I have laughed out loud at some parts. May not be to everyone’s taste but if you enjoy a lighter hearted escapade about opposites swapping life when in crisis dies what it says in the tin.

One thing I can always count on when I read this author's books is what a fun and unexpected story I'll get. I laughed out loud several times. She turns ordinary characters with an ordinary plot into a great plot you want to read with characters you'll root for.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

Lovely feel good book to read. It was a joy to read. Lovely characters. Great plot to really get you going. The book was charming. Very well written. I’d definitely recommend this book. It was hilarious. The story really picked me up

Found this very hard to get into... The heroine, Ella, seems to have no consideration at all for anyone but herself, which thus made her a very unsympathetic character to get behind, let alone root for. A lot of the instances seemed to be for overly-comedic value but fell flat because they don't really make sense in the scheme of things (for example, cutting your own bangs while watching a YouTube video and not seeing it had 'fail' mentioned in, yet going ahead and ending up with a terrible cut - supposed to be funny, but how does that work in Ella taking her posh sister's place?)
In wanting to be too cute, this one fell flat for me. Ella is just not likeable at all, sadly

I loved Faking It!

Feelgood fun, that had me laughing all the way through. I enjoy the swap trope and the twin element added to the story. Ella is a great character and it was good to see how the twins were so different and she had to try and think how her sister would be. Live your sister's life, how hard can it be. Well Ella does make a hash of it with all sorts of trouble ensuing for your reading enjoyment...

A fun read and another solid offering from Portia M.

Another easy read book, which is exactly what I needed at the moment. This was funny, but also had a few lessons in it that you could take from it.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

Thank you to both the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC of this title.

Portia MacIntosh does romcom so very well! There are so many laugh-out-loud moments, and the relationships are completely believable. I loved this book and after reading it, purchased most of her others. They are all so relatable and just the thing for a great beach read or some light escapism after the hellscape of 2020/2021. Portia MacIntosh is now my anti-depressant!

In true Portia Macintosh fashion. I have fallen involve with another highly lovable character. Maybe I just love Portia? I don't know. I have enjoyed every book of hers that I've read and it's safe to say I will continue to love them all. Portia writes with a great mixture of comedy, drama, and reality. I find myself relating to at least one circumstance or event within each of her stories, and this one is no different. The situation Emma and Ella find themselves in, while not relatable to all (hopefully) is a wonderful story of family and just how far one will go to give a sibling peace of mind. While dubbed as a rom-com, I would also consider this women's fiction because it's a little deeper than a fluffy comedy.

I liked the book but the back story to it was a bit predictable. But the contrast between the sisters was great.

💕Having heard only good things about this novel, I desperately wanted to read it. Thanks to @NetgalleyUk for a copy in return for this honest review.

The story revolves around the lives of Ella and her twin sister Emma. When Emma faces an unexpected obstacle in her life, she asks her sister to step in and help her. But, because these sisters have been distant and are like chalk and cheese to each other, the effect this has on both their lives is very touching but also hugely entertaining. The bumps and scrapes they find themselves in are on the one hand comical, since they both have to act in ways which are new to them in order to deal with their problems. But on the other hand, the way in which they try to pull together to help each other is what gives them a deeper understanding of each other. Both sisters are on a personal journey, discovering their true inner strengths but also their failings.

Faking It is not faking it in the rom com department! I LOVED Ella- she had me smiling and laughing throughout the entire book. Her antics were hilarious (especially when she knocked the mirror off the prick's car!) but the love for her family really shone through. I was rooting for her and Marco from the beginning and I smiled (and laughed) during their trip to the arcade, to the 70s nightclub and at the school fundraiser. SUCH a good book! Can't wait to read more by Portia MacIntosh.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Faking It was a pretty fun book to dive into. In it, you will meet Ella. At the moment, her life isn't going to great because she lost her job and her apartment in the same day. So she definitely needs to catch a break and drink something because hot damn girl.

Luckily for her, she gets a break. Emma, Ella's twin sister, is asking to switch places for about six weeks. Without hesitating, she decides it would be fun and easy to act like her sister. Plus, she gets to spend time with her niece and nephew too. So... I'm going to stop right here. Why? Well, this sounds exactly like the movie 'Switched for Christmas' which was on Hallmark forever ago.

Don't ask me why that just randomly popped into my head but it did. It also gave me parent trap vibes because the sisters switch places. Either way, I liked the vibes and I thought Ella doing almost everything wrong was pretty hilarious. So, yes, I'm sticking with my switched for Christmas vibes when it comes to this book.

Besides laughing through the pain, Ella's relationship with her niece and nephew was definitely cute. I also really enjoyed getting to know Marco too. He was a perfect addition to this book and definitely made things more enjoyable.

In the end, I guess it's just super awkward that I'm finally diving into this book but I'm really glad that I found the time to do so.

Twin switch books tend to frustrate me. My best friends growing up are twins. If they couldn’t trick me, I have trouble believing a husband and children could be fooled.
It was a quick, easy read but I just could not believe the premise.

Fantastic read. Fun and frothy with proper laugh out loud moments. I thoroughly enjoyed this read from start to finish. A great mix of sad with truly hilarious. The characters are spot on and Ella would truly be your bestie. Highly recommended! Must read.

Thank you Netgalley

This book was completely unrealistic and silly, but it was the perfect distraction from my everyday life. After Ella’s estranged twin sister (Emma) reaches out to her, Ella finds herself pretending to be Emma while Emma is away in prison. Silly. It’s not deep, but it’s not trying to be. It’s a fun read.

Thanks to @NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my ARC!

This quirky rom com full of mishaps and misunderstandings is not only hilariously funny but has heartwarming lessons we can all learn from about the importance of being are authentic selves and the love of family.

Emma and Ella are twins sisters leading two completely different lives that collide when Ella is asked to take Emma’s place when she has to go away.

I loved the clever writing style of Portia that weaves together this brilliantly funny and original story of two sister with such different personalities.

I was so completely engrossed in the fun and romance of it all that when it took an unexpected route I was filled with emotion and realised how much I had come to care for the family. This added element of storytelling that I hadn’t seen coming was such a touching addition to what had already been such a wonderful read.

Faking it reminds us to always remember that we are good enough just the way we are and that with the love of good friends and family any problem can be face.
