This is one of those “chick lit” books that aspires to be both a romcom and have a greater meaning, but it doesn’t land either.

Free spirited Ella, homeless and fired, is asked by her estranged type-A twin Emma to pretend to be her for six weeks, to deal with Emma’s perfect life in the house where they grew up. Hijinks ensue.

I get that you’re not supposed to trouble yourself too much about the practical nature of the plot, but it’s just not grounded in any sort of reality. It also wasn’t actually funny. Ella isn’t a distinctive or strong enough character to register any strong feelings toward. Not worth reading.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Laugh out loud funny....this one is so unrealistic that it almost becomes plausible! Twin sisters, who could not be more different, are forced to trade places. Well, technically one just goes away and the other steps into her shoes. As she struggles to be someone she's not, she learns quite a bit about herself and reconciles with her past. The ending had a twist that I never saw coming, too!

This was a cute take on twins switching places. I usually don’t enjoy that trope, but MacIntosh’s heroine, Ella, is a lot of fun. She’s down on her luck and agrees to help out her twin, Emma, who seems to be living a perfect life. Of course, Emma’s life isn’t as perfect as it seems and Ella isn’t as hopeless as she seems. And there is the cute uncle who figures out instantly that Ella is not Emma and they soon become good friends.

This was a very enjoyable read.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

Ella has always been the less successful twin, but now her twin Emma needs her to help out and pretend to be her for 6 weeks. Can she pull it off? It's harder than she thought to be the perfect housewife and she gets rumbled by Marco within the first few days. Will she manage to fool everyone else and not ruin her sister's perfect life in the meantime?

A great read.

3.5 stars. I found this story to be a really fun and enjoyable read and would have rated it higher until it came to the end because I literally felt bad for enjoying Ella and her crazy antics for as long as I did. Talk about a book that pulls out all of the emotions.

I received an advance copy of, Faking It, By Portia MacIntosh. I thought Emma was very shallow, I did like or connect with her at all.

Oh wow! She's done it again! Another absolutely magical and heartwarming read which has been utterly impossible to put down. This book might just be my new favourite.
I've read all of Portia's books and it's no secret that I am a huge fan so instantly wanted to read & review this absolutely stunning book. The cover reveal alone was enough to get me excited- it's just so beautiful.
This book has made me laugh out loud on occasions and as usual I have been unsuccessful in guessing where this was going. This book is filled with fun and bursting with great characters.
I have loved Ella, she has been a great main character who I have felt I could be friends with. The plot of this book is completely unique to anything I've read previously and I have been completely pulled into the pages.
I definitely would recommend this book, along with all of Portia's books. This has been a read that I have devoured in just one sitting and found impossible to put down.
This book has been the perfect, romantic and heartwarming read that I have needed. A definite five star rating, I'm already eagerly anticipating the next book.

I absolutely loved this book! It was really uplifting and heartwarming but also managed to be realistic and escapist at the same time. It was the perfect blend and had me engrossed so that I read it in a day.
There were wonderful character's and some you loved to hate , Emma and Ella were like chalk and cheese on the surface , Ella swaps places with her twin for a few weeks with some laugh out loud results as she takes the sleepy village by storm.
This book had it all, it was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, you wanted to laugh one moment and cry the next , it was thought provoking too, things are sometimes not what they seem and people are too quick to judge each other. It had an ending that felt just right and you felt light hearted by the time you got to the last page.
This was a really enjoyable read and I thoroughly recommend it . I think it Will appeal to readers who like Zara Stoneley and Jill mansell

What would you do if you suddenly had to impersonate your more successful identical twin sister? Fake it till you make it...or till you get caught out!

Last week I named "Faking it" as one of my most anticipated reads for 2021 and I sure got it right. It did not disappoint in the least. What such a perfect feel good story for this weird times.

I don't know how the author does it, but I get to fall in love with her characters every single time. They're delightful, lovable, funny... Ella was the perfect mix of crazy and level headedness. I just loved how she didn't think twice about going to her sister's aid even though she could have used past grievances to not wanna help her, not reproaching her at all. It was so funny reading about her new "mum" status and her dealings with Emma's kids (yeah, I even liked the moody teenager and I always hate moody teenagers), her colleagues and the Yummy Mummy Mafia (what an apt moniker!). And Marco. What to say about Marco except...where can I get one like him?!

It's not usual I cry out laughing while reading, but I found myself with tears in my eyes more than once. And not only tears of laughter and joy, cause there was a curveball thrown almost at the end that made me teary eyed all again but for emotional reasons. I had such a goofy smile on my face the whole time!

"Faking it" is a sweet story about families, the one you're born into and the one you make for yourself, and the importance of talking to each other when we have the chance, not holding onto silly grudges that the only thing they will achieve is to make us lose time and the possibility of creating beautiful moments with those around us.

Is the grass always greener on the other side is the question that I kept asking myself while reading this fun and engaging rom com. Recommended to all those that love a good family story, with a pinch of love.
