This is a great and informative book for young kids to learn about the human body and what all the systems do for us. It's silly, it has bright colorful pictures that can be over the top in grossness sometimes. It has a lot of neat facts, and I definitely learned some things. Because it's for the younger age group, and most people reading this won't hit puberty for a few years, they do gloss over what reproduction is and what puberty is, which is totally fine. I think that this makes it a great book for parents that want to encourage understanding in their child about their body, without worrying about drawings of genitals and explanations of sex.
I very much appreciate the world records throughout the book as a mom who has a child obsessed with those. This is a fun book for parents who want to encourage the scientific mind of their kid. It also has the option to listen to podcasts about the book, and provides a lot of resources in the back to continue the discussion.

This was a great book that talks about and breaks down how the human body functions. I would recommend this book for its details and graphic illustrations. I like how certain parts of the body is explained in detail.

Cute Drawings. Interesting Layout of pages. Lots of fun facts and how different body parts work. Steo by step process explained for exa how the nose works. This will help kids articulate complex process in simple steps.

This is a book that I'm likely to buy for our homeschool library since it's just so fun and informative. Even I learned a bunch of things, and I'm pretty well read when it comes to biology. It's a very fun, colorful, fact-filled book that will keep kids' attention. They can read it in any order and just look at a page or two at a time if they like. It's filled with lots of gross stuff that kids are likely to enjoy, but also lots of plain educational stuff in small bits that are easy to digest. Human reproduction is covered but just barely (this is not a sex ed book) and things like genitals are not mentioned. Just about every other part of the body is covered other than more advanced topics like hormones, DNA, etc. Issues like puberty, acne, body odor, gas and poop are covered extensively. Kids are likely to learn a lot and have fun doing it.

I came across the podcast version of this book back at the beginning of the shelter in place when my normally listened to Planet Money started giving me ads for it. This was when I was trying to find anything fun and educational so I jumped on it. We binged it at different times while doing art or sensory bin stuff at the table but zoey (3 then) got tired of it and I wasn’t sure if either kid was taking it in. Music was easier to ignore and focus on what you were doing other things so when Ada (5 then) stopped wanting it I stopped playing it and kind of forgot about it. Imagine my surprise when I came across this book on NetGalley. I quickly requested it and started reading it to my kids daily (as I did good previously with other larger books like goodnight rebel girls.) and although it looked amazing and caused the kids (now 4 and 6) to laugh a lot we kind of forgot about it once I stopped making a point to read a bit of it each day. I realized I should probably review it so I quickly skimmed over the contents. I love how every page is giving facts in easy to digest fun factoids with amazing pictures and accompanying facts, laughs, tongue in cheek experiments, and comics. I could see this being a perfect book lying around the house to read parts whenever a chance comes up. Not a book to try to binge in one seating.

At the end the book goes over puberty and, probably as it’s a kids book, doesn’t go over anything that happens “down there” although it mentions sleep, hair in armpit, Adam’s apple, and smells. (Again I just scanned over it so may have missed something). There is a reproduction life cycle but says when a person finds another person type thing and then when sperm meets egg. Nothing about how one gets to the other one that I saw.

What struck me first about Thomas' book Wow in the World:The Human Body is that kids would read this. The colorful and often humorous ways the author teaches about the body is to be commended. I am by no means a science person, but I always have to read diversely for my classroom. This text was able to keep my attention and present usually boring information in a not-so-boring way. Teachers can rely on this text to get students choosing nonfiction.

The human body is an amazing machine and Wow in the World: The How and Wow of the Human Body does a great job of showing readers exactly why that is. This book is a fact filled tour of the human body from head to toe. The visually appealing illustrations and accompanying easy to understand text will keep readers interested as they learn about how their bodies work. The mix of funny and weird facts is a sure-fire way to hook elementary age readers. The links to podcasts that are found at the end of the book are a great resource for readers who want to participate in further learning about topics that interest them.

They share information about all of our body systems and offer additional facts for more research. The book addresses all aspects of how a body works in a straightforward manner. To balance that, the illustrations show a cartoon approach and the dialogue adds the right amount of humor. The narrators offer information and fun facts that will connect with readers.
A great resource for families to trigger discussion and answer questions on various body activities.

This is really cute and informative, and I really liked the art style of it. I think it's definitely one we'll want to explore in depth together in our homeschool, and my daughter seemed to enjoy it as much as she enjoys the podcast! There's quite a few facts for each area of the body being discussed, but not huge blocks of text with too much going on for the elementary set.

This is the perfect combination of weird and factual about the human body and how it works. Elementary-aged kids will absolutely love this informational book! Fun, cartoony illustrations make it visually appealing, too.

Wow in the World: The How and Wow of the Human Body was an informative book all about the human body. Loved the bright colored pictures and all the facts about the different parts of the body from the heart to the brain, this book explained in detail how each of these parts of the body function. The pictures also helped in grabbing the attention of the reader. The only thing that I did not appreciate was the part about gender and choosing ones own gender. Being as this book is science orientated, I didn’t think it helped in further explaining gender and may be confusing. Other than that I think this book is a good resource for educators to use in the study of the human body.

I absolutely love this book! I thought I read it all when reading and viewing so many human body books but this one has a hysterical approach that speaks every child language and the icing on the cake is the brilliantly executed illustrations. I also love the explanations presented throughout the book which is simple enough for children to understand. Mindy Thomas and Guy Raz did an amazing job putting together a book that every household, classroom, and library should have. A humorous approach to such a difficult topic.

We will consider adding this title to our JNonFiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
