Generally, I found this book really informative and interesting and as a (now not-so-new) mother myself it obviously piqued my interests. There was something about this that I felt a little let down by but can't quite put my finger on why

I believe, this book in the right hands can do a world of good. Since I already share a lot of the same opinions and views as the author there wasn't anything new in this book but that's not the books fault by any means.

I went in expecting a more emotional story but quickly learned this book was more based on research and facts, again, not the books fault. I think if I read this a couple of years ago I would have absolutley loved this and I can still see that objectively it's a good book, I was just hoping for more of a personal and emotional story.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

This one was a real mixed bag for me. The opening chapter on giving birth had me fighting back tears as it chimed with my own experiences. Same with the chapter on breastfeeding. As the book continued I found myself agreeing with the content but the dry tone meant I wasn’t getting that same emotional connection I found so viscerally in the chapters highlighted above. I don’t blame the author for this. I’m aware that, as a reader, I bring my own baggage and I have to do that heavy lifting myself.
.
I really hope this book finds its way into the hands of the people who make the political decisions and the people who shape our cultural understanding of motherhood. I’m too jaded to believe it but there’s always hope.
