Twisty and compelling thriller, set in London and featuring a young female barrister who believes she is being stalked by a former client.

Outwardly leading a very successful life, Ingrid lives in the constant shadow of a stalker who continually harrasses her and seems to monitor her every move.

There is little the police can do without evidence, but when Ingrid's colleague dies in a tragic accident she suspects that she was the real target and the stakes have suddenly been raised.

With her suspicions falling on deaf ears, Ingrid tries to investigate for herself, but finds herself drawn deeper and deeper into danger.

A really good read.

This is a really good thriller.

I finished it last night and had to really think about how to write my review as it is so intense and a real page turner but also very far fetched and just a few too many twists.

Ingrid is a very divisive character.. For a Barrister, highly intelligent and very well spoken...she does so many idiotic things. Almost everything she does in fact is not relatable and although at times she acts out of fear, which is understandable...it does not excuse alot of the exasperating things she does. Think horror movie where they run up the stairs instead of out the front door ...but for the whole book.

Through the first half of the narrative the fear and tredipation is overwhelming. Its a very tense and emotive thriller. It was a really interesting view of stalkers and being gaslit and the emotional toll that takes on those affected. I really wish this had been the whole book as this was enough to drive the narrative forward and be both informative and a page turner. The fear was intense during this section and had this continued this would be a 5 star book without a doubt.

The change in pace and storyline made it a different book altogether and then so many twists...none of which was really needed. I figured out one thing towards the start but was pleasantly surprised by the others but overall wish the whole book had been what the first half was.

It's a very good thriller and would definitely recommend but just thought it lost some focus.

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

Spoilers Ahead

This book started off really strong and with stalker creepy vibes, it was reminding me of my favourite ever book, Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes. I was really enjoying it. However, it rapidly descended into a farce of a story. An annoying lead character, a sociopath turned good, and a good cop/bad cop scenario with everyone getting justice in the end. Massive eye roll. I skim read the last 30% and couldn't wait for it to be over tbh.

Another epic thriller by Jane Casey. It is dark, twisty and brilliant.

This is a standalone novel, away from the Kerrigan and Derwent series, and is an entirely different novel.

Barrister Ingrid finds herself the subject of John Webster's undivided attention, after defending him for ...stalking!!

He claims he is protecting her, but how far will he go?

This is impossible to put down!

Dark, well crafted, and paranoia inducing, I really enjoyed this book, but I did see a couple of the twists coming (I read a lot of thrillers and domestic thriller style books, so I'm quite good at spotting twists). They were well hidden, and though not...plausable in places, the book was great and an enjoyable read.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me an option to review this book.

I can’t tell you how excited I was for a stand-alone from Casey who is my top favourite crime writer, and for it to be about the bar (and accurately so), even better. I absolutely loved it.

I enjoyed this book, but not as much as I enjoyed previous Jane Casey books. I think that was partly because I was distracted by uni and my upcoming exams, so I only read this book in bits and snippets when I had the time. Most of Jane Casey's other books I finished reading in two or three sittings max.

Totally unputdownable (is that a word?!)
This was a really well written book and had me totally on the edge of my seat a few times. It was very well written and the story flowed well and I didn't want it to end. Highly recommend.

The Killing Kind Jane Casey
Jane Casey is one of my favourite authors, when I see she has a new book out, I want it before reading the blurb.
I think this book is her best work yet. It's probably longer than your average book, yet I didn't want it to end. The storyline was so well written, I loved it!!

This novel is a nice stand-alone read. The book features Ingrid, a London barrister who is convinced that a former client of her, is stalking her. He has been found guilty of this in the past, and its also not the first time he harassed her. This sets the scene for a thrilling read, where nothing is as it seems, and the most unlikely person might be the only help she can get.

Ingrid Lewis is a solicitor and used to dealing with unsavory clients who she defends.
After defending John Webster on a stalking charge, he turns his attention to Ingrid, and nearly destroys her life. Ingrid believes that she is now rid of him, but then a series on incidents has her thinking twice.
Great read and unable to put down - it has you turning the pages for what happens next.

The book was very well written and flowed well. The plot was great. Everything I thought it would be from the description

I really love Jane Casey’s Maeve Kerrigan series so I was excited to pick up her latest standalone thriller. The Killing Kind follows a hunted barrister, Ingrid Lewis, who has been relentlessly stalked for years by an ex-client, John Webster. When a colleague dies in strange (supposedly accidental) circumstances, Ingrid is sure she was the intended victim. With John Webster back in the picture purporting to want to protect her from a killer and a string of dangerous near-misses, Ingrid has to make a decision whether to trust the man who had completely destroyed every facet of her life in his relentless campaign.

Relentless and gripping are perfect words to describe this novel – I was completely drawn into Ingrid’s life and every page turned brings new twists and turns. Not only that, it is a truly disturbing psychological thriller and is honestly so intelligently delivered. I honestly couldn’t put this down. I am in awe of Jane Casey and would recommend her books to everyone.

This was a seriously good book, had me up half the night as I just had to finish it. Looking out for more from the author, great characters and good storyline to boot, look out for this one.

This is not an author I particularly know. The book was ok but to be honest, it didn't quite hit the mark with me.

Ingrid Lewis loves her work as a barrister, but after she successfully defends John Webster against an accusation of stalking, he turns on her. He destroys her home, relationship, and her life. When Ingrid lends a fellow barrister her umbrella & that colleague is killed in a reported accident, Ingrid fears that Webster is back to finish what he started. Sure enough Webster has returned, but he tells Ingrid that someone else wants to kill her & he is there to protect her. Can she trust him?

I've read most of the books from the author's Maeve Kerrigan series so a standalone book was appealing. It was a great read, with lots of twists & neither the MC nor the reader is sure who to trust. The tension is ratcheted up slowly, & I liked that the MC didn't fall apart, she stood up for herself & worked it all out. The only thing which detracted was the death of a pet, I hate that.

My thanks to NetGalley & publishers, HarperCollins UK, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

Really, really enjoyed this. You think it’s going I’ve way then it twists in to something else. Very tense and I couldn’t put it down. Strong 5/5.

An outstanding whirlwind of a thriller. The plot is so cleverly constructed and comes so vividly to life that it surely must be turned into a movie. Loved every minute of the ride.
