This book is completely un-put-downable. I read it in a day, and was totally engrossed by it. It isn't perfect - it is fairly easy to work out one of the twists early on, and I found the ending slightly disappointing, but this book stands out in a fairly crowded field of similar thrillers, and I would definitely recommend it.

The Killing Kind is a twisty, turbulent thriller that will keep you reading well into the early hours of the morning.

This is a multi layered psychological crime thriller in which Casey has woven several cleverly worked plots together. The characters are ones I was immediately drawn to, both negatively and positively. I especially loved how Jane somehow made me actually like the manipulative 'sociopath' character despite it being clear from the start of the story that he's a 'bad guy'.

You'll think you've this one figured out multiple times along the way...will you be right though?

I will start by saying this is the first book I’ve read by this author but it most certainly won’t be my last. The Killing Kind was for me an excellent and gripping psychological suspense thriller that had me engrossed in the story from the very beginning. A good solid story with excellent characters that I highly recommend.

I’d like to thank HarperCollins UK, Harper Fiction and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Killing Kind’ by Jane Casey in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Barrister Ingrid Lewis defends John Webster and when she gets a ‘not guilty’ verdict Webster is attracted to her and stalks her to the extent that she takes out a restraining order against him. But Ingrid never believes the day will come when she needs his help.

‘The Killing Kind’ is an amazing novel with a complex and action-packed plot and all the ingredients needed for a sensational thriller. It’s well-written with an involving storyline made more realistic by the addition of documents, emails and log of incidents that have increased the tension and kept me gripped from page one. There are so many suspects, characters and intricate threads running through the story with unexpected shocks and surprises leaping out, and an abundance of twists and turns and red herrings that it’s been impossible to stop reading. Jane Casey has to be congratulated on her ability to formulate such a dramatic and thoroughly enjoyable thriller that’s worthy of more than five stars and one that I can wholeheartedly recommend.

This is a great read.
When Ingrid Lewis successfully defends John Webster she doesn’t realise the huge repercussions this will have on her life.
Following his release from prison he contacts Ingrid telling her that someone wants her dead, and that he is the only one who can protect her.
When two people Ingrid knows die in nasty accidents, she starts to wonder if this is linked to the case she worked on at the start of her career.
This is a story that's about revenge but it’s also about trust as Ingrid needs to work out who she can really trust.
This is a fast paced thriller that will definitely have you hooked.
Thanks to Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

This story is seriously creepy. It brought me out in goosebumps more than once!

Barrister Ingrid becomes the victim of unwanted obsessive attention after successfully defending John Webster. The tale has real depth and pace, with detail about Ingrid’s work, theLondon setting and a host of plausible characters. When seriously bad things start to happen to Ingrid, she doesn’t know who to trust. Is Webster responsible, or boyfriend Mark, policeman Adam or stranger Ben?

Jane Casey delivers a fast paced thriller which builds around strange email exchanges between two unknowns and real time action. It twists from one disaster to another…but are they connected? It’s a genuine psychological thriller, beautifully crafted and I was totally drawn in to the plot. One of Jane Carey’s best and so well written.

My thanks to the publisher for a review copy via Netgalley.

Somehow, I just haven’t managed yet to get around to Jane Casey’s Maeve Kerrigan series, but I am so glad I took the opportunity to read her new stand-alone ‘The Killing Kind’.
Barrister Ingrid Lewis has been stalked and harassed by John Webster since defending him in a case some years ago. After a period of quiet, unpleasant incidents happen around her and both Ingrid and the police to whom she makes reports, are uncertain whether Webster is behind them. The stakes get higher as the bodies pile up and Ingrid knows that while Webster is enjoying the game, he is out to get her, or is he?
The Killing Kind is a roller coaster ride of a book. Complete enjoyment from start to finish. Its such fun when the reader realises they are being manipulated just as much as the characters are. There are times when the writing style does not always appeal, but Jane Casey has the same skill at building a clear plot as her character Ingrid does and her scatterings of red herrings and scraps of confusion are brilliantly executed.
I loved this book and am grateful to Netgalley UK and HarperCollins UK for the chance to read it.

What a fantastic book! This was my first Jane Casey and I can't wait to read more.
When barrister, Ingrid Lewis, successfully defends John Webster she cannot know the repercussions this will have on her life.
Webster is a smooth, slick stalker who targets Ingrid, ruining her relationship.
Following release from prison (not for stalking!) he returns to Ingrid's life, claiming that someone wants her dead, and that he is the only one who can protect her.
When two people she knows die in accidents, Ingrid eventually links them to a case they worked on at the start of her career. She finally believes she could be the next target.
Who can she trust? The story twists and turns and keeps you on the edge of your seat right to the end. Thank you #HarperFiction and #Netgalley for this ARC!

Wowzer! That was a humdinger of a read! I am so glad I discovered Jane Casey and I will definitely be looking out for more of her books! I love her style of writing. The pace is fast and it keeps you entertained from the beginning to the end. This 1 had twists and turns coming at you from all sides!
It's a story that's ultimately about revenge but is it as straightforward as it seems or is there more sinister reasons behind it all? It is also a story about trust. How do we know who to trust? In the end, you have to go with your gut feeling because that is never wrong.

I did see 1 of the twist coming and I picked up a teensy weensy discrepancy but it seems I'm the only 1 and it didn't distract from the brilliant story!

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

There are many contemporary novels featuring intelligent, privileged protagonists whose lives unravel, but this thriller is a cut above the rest. London-based barrister Ingrid Lewis regrets the day she successfully defended sociopath John Webster who stops at nothing to ruin her life: stalking her by text, email and in person, targeting her fiancé, and setting a house fire. This nightmarish scenario gets even worse when a fellow barrister, Belinda Grey, dies in a traffic accident, as Ingrid is sure she was the intended victim, and that John Webster is the killer. It is to Jane Casey’s credit that rather than produce a sensationalist storyline, she explores the complex psychological issues unveiled in this book with fine nuances and tact. I am very grateful to the publishers and to NetGalley for this free ARC and would definitely recommend this book to readers looking for an intelligent, multi-layered thriller.

Thank you to the publishers and to Net Galley for a review copy of this book, This is the first book I have read by this author but will not be the last.
The story is excellently plotted with many twists and turns, dead ends, and sudden switches which lead the reader at times to the wrong conclusions.
The main character is a barrister who is being stalked by a client she successfully defended in court. A number of deaths occur as the plot unfolds and she ends up living in fear of her life.
Each time I put this book down I was looking forward to picking it up again as soon as I could.
A well-written book which I can recommend.

This book is very clever and keeps you guessing until the end. Almost everybody was a suspect at some point in my mind! An intriguing plot that holds your attention throughout.

Gripping psychological thriller really brings home the terrible impact of our judicial system’s failure to deal with dangerous stalkers as barrister Ingrid finds her life turned upside down by the stalker she successfully defends in court. Intense and claustrophobic in parts as she finds herself in danger and totally uncertain who to trust this is an enjoyable read although for me not as good as Carey’s brilliant Kerrigan detective stories.

Riveting read from first page to the very last. Loved the twists and turns, kept me guessing until the very end. Ingrid doesn't know who to trust and I neither did I while reading the book. A fantastic thriller, kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. Absolutely unputdownable.

The Killing Kind by Jane Casey
This is another gripping, roller coast of a thriller from Jane Casey. The novel opens with the sudden death of Belinda Grey who is someone whom Ingrid worked with on her first controversial court case. Ingrid has the suspicion that perhaps she was the intended target rather than Belinda and sets about investigating the events which led to her death.
A few years earlier Ingrid had defended Webster; a manipulative and dangerous man and in doing so becomes the target for his interest. The story twists and turns repeatedly and you question who Ingrid can trust and whether she can actually trust her own thoughts.
Some of Ingrid’s plans seem to be foolhardy and there are moments when your credulity is challenged but by then you are so involved in the story you put these thoughts aside. I did have my own questions about the person who turned out to be the perpetrator but not sufficiently so that the ending did not retain an element of surprise.
Definitely an attention grabbing read and I can think of many friends in book groups who would be highly entertained by this novel. I would like to offer my thanks to the author, the publishers and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this novel in return for an honest review.

A good thriller where the main character is a barrister with great attention to detail. The plot was somewhat complicated with all the characters and had an unexpected ending. I am sure this writer will go on to produce more novels.

I never repeat the blurb. Another breathlessly gripping tale from Jane Casey. So many twists, turns and sub plots that you don't know whom to trust, believe or fear. Utterly chilling and I could not put it down.

I enjoyed this book. Barrister Ingrid Lewis successfully defends John Webster. He then becomes her stalker, ruining her relationship and even her home. A few years later he is back, but this time he is claiming that someone wants Ingrid dead, and that he is the only one who can protect her. When 2 people she knows die in accidents, Ingrid links them all to a case they worked on some years ago, and she believes she could be the next target. But can she trust Webster when he so nearly destroyed her before? This is a real page turner which will keep you on the edge of your seat to the end. Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.

I really can’t recommend this book enough. This is such a great read. Ingrid is a barrister and as such is used to dealing with some very complex, strange and downright dangerous individuals, but usually they are on her side as she defends them. However what happens when their attentions get turned to her?
This is a multilayered complex tale, which will have you muttering “what the?” time and time again in your head, as the reader is drawn down a maze of false leads. You really will switch your allegiance between possible perpetrators multiple times, sometimes in the space of the one page. Just who can she trust.? Sometimes your worst enemy is your best friend.
Great plots with amazing twists at the end.
