I started this book, then I stopped and repeated the whole process until I finished. The Monster MASH has potential to be more but it got lost in the different moving parts and lots of internal dialog that can confuse the reader. The events that play out in the book lead me to want more information. More clues to gain hints. For one example, Petra is using her powers during a surgery but somehow everyone around her misses her little monologue and is unaware of her powers. How? Dialog that happened in a crowded place yet no one hears the exchange (and it wasn't implied they were whispering). What? No spoilers here but if you want to see what I mean check out the book. I liked Galen but I felt that the feelings developed between him and Petra were a bit contrived as most of the interactions the reader glimpses at is mostly a one sided conversation about a prophecy and her internal dialogue. I wanted more from this book and toward the end it seemed I got it so I'm interested in the second book. I appreciate that the side characters had their own personality that let the readers enjoy their quirks, however it sometimes felt that, their events took over the plot and moved away from it. which can cause a kind of whiplash when you're pulled back to it. The events did resolve themselves at the end of the book but while reading it, felt like you were on a rollercoaster ride.

Found this book funny and quirky, I didn't quite click with the characters but I found the concept quite original and refreshing and I can see others enjoying it easily.

Angie Fox has created fun, relatable characters in a fantasy world. The Monster MASH is a romp with mythological creatures who work side by side with doomed mortals. Mythology, adventure, saving the world with a good-sized helping of romance.

This felt like a really crappy take on MASH. I couldn't connect with any of the characters and when they kept referencing MASH in general I felt like it was very generic.

Highly entertaining. A clash of myths and legends spiced with humor. Certainly worth a read if you are a fan of the urban fiction genre.

I am huge fan of Angie Fox books so I couldn't put the book down. It was funny with endering characters and I can't wait to finish the series! I recommend reading this regardless if you like urban fantasy. You will love this book.

I...was a little letdown truthfully. It's such a hilarious-sounding concept and yet I couldn't wait for the romantic scenes to be over...and they are more than half of the book. I really loved the side characters and I was disappointed the heroine [who is..way too easy to convince over a guy hovering over her even if he is a god] didn't get more time interacting with em. Those interactions were this story's bread and butter.

Funny, strong, intelligent characters that are dragged kicking and screaming to their destinies - being heros.

Paranormal dramedy pulls the reader into the main character, Petra's world of snark, dry humor, fringe military/clandestine operatives with a bit of romance.

3.75 Hearts I can’t recall reading Angie Fox’s novel but I have a number of friends who do so when this series was available I thought this would give me a chance to get to know her as an author. And I really did like the way she writes. And the world she conjures up.

Petra works in a MASH unit but not like the tv show. This MASH takes care of monsters and gods in a never ending war. But Petra has a secret that gets out and chaos begins. Because Petra can see the dead!

What a fun book to read. I had no idea that Fox put so much humor into her stories. I chuckled a number of times and even laughed out loud a time or two (rare for me). I loved the relationships she has with Galen and Rodger, though very different, they mesh so well.

I really enjoyed this book and I am so glad I got the next two in the series so I could read them all back to back.

Well it started off well and I was excited to see where it went...........in the end it wasn't that great. I liked the creatures and there were good parts like the Imps chasing the Jeep and the fact that a priest has a hell hound. Yet the story line dragged and the characters just seemed to end up together. I'm going to read on but i feel like with a war with the Gods could have been more exciting. I did like the fact that we had all Gods and it wasn't just one set.

Angie Fox took my favorite show, MASH, and my favorite genre, paranormal romance - and Mashed it together to make this laugh out loud, funny, charming, and heartwarming story. Can't wait for the next book in this series!

This book was one hell of a ride and not necessarily in a good way.
The writing was really funny and I couldn't help myself giggle, almost every second sentence. The female MC was really witty and sassy as hell. However, the whole story was a "mash" of different elements and notions that made the whole thing too gimmicky in my opinion. The premise was nice and interesting but the execution did not do it for me.

I was extremely excited after reading the synopsis and was not disappointed. I really enjoyed this book and feel like anyone who grew up on Percy Jackson and Harry Potter will like this fast and fun read. I can see myself picking up the next release and continuing with the series. I was pulled in by the quick witted dialogue and stayed for the PG slow burn romance with hopes for a kick butt heroine. That being said, I feel the story line was a bit anticlimactic and rushed. Fast paced books are fine but this felt like leaps and bounds between scenarios. The main character is sassy and stubborn and two sentences later giving in to a demigod for a smile. As a sassy, stubborn reader, it felt unrelateable and frustrating. I also felt like the setting was too removed from the action and our main characters were more backseat riders to the story. I would love to see more detailed character writing but overall enjoyed it as a starter for a series and see it as a great foundation for the storyline.

While I didn’t dislike this book by any means I did find it rather anticlimactic and boring at times. The first half of the book is basically everything the blurb says it will be. There are barely any surprises and the heroine from start to finish is the most stubborn woman ever. It did take me by surprise (in a good and refreshing way) that the heroine was a 40ish year old woman. For whatever reason I expected more of a YA read probably given the title and cover but it was definitely not that. I do wish the author spent more time building the world and setting for the story, at times I felt like I was just supposed to know and assume things that were going on. The whole concept of immortals fighting other immortals in a war and basically drafting mortals and supernaturals in said war needed a lot more explanation. There were some modern mentions of pop culture that also just didn’t mesh with what was going on especially with characters who’ve been stuck in limbo for years. I know this is a reworked edition but honestly I still think it needs work and expansion. Much of the book is just the heroine working as a medic and complaining about this or that and once again being stubborn where the prophecy is concerned, particularly her role in it. There was very minimal action and sadly for me I didn’t find it as humorous as I had hoped it’d be. The romance was minimal and I felt super shocked when the heroine professed her love since she’d barely spent time with the ‘hero’ at all. Sure she felt his literal soul but I still don’t get how that equates to love. The end was also kind of flat and having finished I’m not sure what the point of it all was or what the next book will be or could even be about. While reading I just kept hoping things would become more exciting and fun. While I did find the book interesting it never got where I wanted it to. There were so many supernaturals thrown together and such a wild and imaginative setting it should have been like a jersey shore spring break blowout and instead it was more like a subpar medical drama with some supernatural elements thrown in.

3.5 stars

First of all, I love the play on the tv show MASH. That was such a great show and the comparison with doctors thrown in to do field medicine in a never ending war was well done. I also liked that this had humor to balance out the prophecies and battle. This was a super easy, quick read and I'm definitely going to read the sequel.

Dr. Petra has been conscripted into a war between gods that has been going on for hundreds of years. It's a life sentence and she's just trying to get through each day. When a handsome demi god shows up mortally wounded, she accidentally puts his spirit back in his body and reveals her secret: she can see and interact with ghosts. Galen is sure that Petra is the savior from the prophecies who will stop the war, but she doesn't want to take any chances.

Petra was stubborn and I didn't like that she was so rude to Galen from the beginning. He was a nice guy who started helping the camp out, but she acted like he was an enemy and I wanted her to get over herself. She does give in to his charm eventually and I liked their relationship after. They work well together and he fit in with her group seamlessly.

The ending was a bit anticlimactic, but at least it was happy. I'm looking forward to the next book to see if Petra and Galen can stop the war for good.

A rewrite of an earlier publication, Angie Fox, never disappoints with her books.
Dr. Petra Robichaud has been recruited by the gods to work in a MASH unit and she is really good at her job. Trapped forever in this world of battles and survival, she is not looking for love and hiding a secret that could end her existence. Enter Commander Galen of Delphi, who after being on her table, learns her secret and knows she could change the outcome of this war between the gods.
Angie Fox writes with humour and lightness shaping characters that you really become invested in. She makes the comment in this publication that she rewrote this book because it wasn't published the first time the way she really wanted to tell it - she has certainly done a great job with her re-write. The supporting cast are excellent and you want to see a happy ending for not just Petra and Galen. Well worth a read (or re-read) and there is more to come in this series.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Monster MASH has a pretty cool cover and an interesting synopsis. Yet, for some odd reason I couldn't click with the book or the characters. Don't get me wrong, I tried.. and tried but nothing was happening. It didn't help that I had a migraine when I was first starting this but it also didn't help that the next day I was just bored with what was happening either.

Luckily, for me, it did have it's funny moments that would sort of break me from my weirdness. Or zombie mode of reading. Plus Petra had some likable moments as well. She is a human surgeon who unfortunately gets drafted into a war with gods. Yikes. So when she accidentally saves a demigod and gets stalked by a dagger.. well, let's just say things definitely change for her and she's no longer in Kansas.

Low and behold, she's the new Harry Potter with a prophecy of stopping the war. At this point, Petra wants absolutely nothing to do with gods, demigods, or the damn war. So the prophecy at this point seems kind of pointless because she doesn't want it either.

In the end, like I said it had some great moments here and there but a lot of boring stuff in between. I wouldn't necessarily say it was the pace by itself but a lot of other things that just weren't meshing with me or my brain.

The God's are at war. This is the tale of a M.A.S.H. unit and the "people" stationed there.

This could be an emotional rollercoaster of a story. Perhaps it would be for some people. Yet it's not too serious and actually funny. Fear, love, longing and mini swamp monsters that breed like bunnies.

This is a great series when you want an urban fantasy/ romance that is just a fun read. There are no graphic sex scenes so if you shy away from that no worries here!

The catholic priest and his pet hell hound puppy are still my favorite characters.

I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.

Dr Petra Robichaud is drafted to be a MASH surgeon for a war between the old gods and the new gods. This war has been going on for centuries with no end in sight. Life is hard in Limbo as Petra spends every day repairing soldiers and sending them back to fight. But Petra has a secret, she can see the dead. If she is found out, death would be the best thing to happen to her. Galen of Delphi arrives mortally wounded by a bronze knife and she saves him by shoving his spirit back into his body. Now he convinced that she is part of a prophecy to end the war. He believes together they will bring peace.
I read this story when it was originally published. There are changes since the original publication. I got a kick out of the camp trying to play practical jokes on the camp commander Kostas trying to win vacation time. You have Rodger a vegetarian werewolf roommate who collects swamp dinosaurs and Maurius a very uptight and brooding vampire who is constantly annoyed by his roommates. This version of the series focuses more on the relationships and friendships of the people in the camp. I look forward to reading the other two books in the series.
