A very dense read, but with many productive concepts and discussions regarding all the intricacies and potential family and couple relationship models. It works to improve communication, understanding, and acceptance, in effort to move forward, learn, and improve relationship dynamics.

Each section is written by an expert in that particular field and/or subset. I love the case applications and break downs throughout discussing ways to refocus and reframe on the challenges of each point of view, keeping the readers focused on the key concepts.

This is clearly well done, from it's basic inception and organization, through its writing and final product. The way it is organized empowers each author to state their perspective and arguments. The target audience seems to be Canadian therapists, but as an American health professional interested in behavioral health topics, I was still able to grasp the concepts and apply them myself. The discussions can also be extrapolated to personal relationships by readers.

This is quite the educational book. It could easily be broken into smaller subsets, but its cohesion as a book is paramount, and this will be one I refer back to often! Buy this!

Counseling in Relationships: Insights for Helping Families Develop Healthy Connections is an excellent book that I am looking forward to adding to my mental health resource collection. I especially appreciated the information on parent and teen relationships, single parent families, purposeful single parenting, and blended families. #NetGalley

I have a passion for psychology and I’m always aiming for self improvement. This book was insightful to me due to the case studies and the research that was conducted. I’ll be applying some of the key points in my life. Whether you are a psychologist or somebody who could use treatment from a psychologist (all of us!!!!) this is a great book for you.

A great book! The case studies of this gem are exceedingly helpful in illustrating different perspectives and nuances of family counseling. As someone who could personally use such a book, I plan to tell my family about this resource--especially the printable handouts related to book and available for free at the website for the Crisis & Trauma Resource Institute.

This was an interesting read. I personally think it's more aimed at someone training to be a counselor. That being said I still found some soundbites to take away and use in my life and thought processes when communicating with others.

As a person who wears many hats on two main industries, I am always happy to read new and/or updated topics such as this. I found this to be a little bit drawn out and outdated. If you are new to the field of psychology -coaching or a job where having these kind of skills is important and you have not read up on relationships I think this might be a decent read for somebody that does not have a very significant background in it yet. Since so many different people authored the book together you've a variety of opinions and and such. With social media and the way relationships work and wrap around social media and how fast our world is changing which means our relationships are changing I felt this was slightly underwhelming for my area of expertise.

Another great book to add to my counseling library. There aren't many books out there from the Relational Cultural perspective. As a counselor who works from this theory, this book was very helpful. Various relationship types are covered, case examples provided, and specific tips are included.
