WoW! Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara books must be one of the best little books to purchase for children, these are the best-selling series of books and educational games that explore the lives of outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists and activists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream.

So, this latest book is Megan Rapinoe about by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and is just brilliant throughout.

" Growing up in Redding, California, Megan discovered her calling chasing a ball on the school playground. Even if she didn’t always fit in at school, she was a star on the field—and her teammates thought so too. Her passion, skill and leadership took Team USA to Olympic Gold and a World Cup victory, while she continues to champion women’s and LGBTQ+ rights and representation in sports, in the US and across the world."

This inspiring book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the US co-captain’s life."

It's one book, you should definitely buy for your little readers so they can learn about this wonderful artist.

I am so glad these books are being published and I highly recommend all of these books

This is an interesting children's book about an American footballer and athlete called Megan Rapinoe. The book shows her life as a child and how she went on to play football professionally. I learned that she has won many awards and that she is a supporter of equal rights. I didn't know who Megan was before I read this book, so I found it interesting to learn about her and she sounds very strong and inspiring. I enjoyed the graphics in the book, which are beautiful.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The exceptional Little People, BIG DREAMS series prides itself on providing child-friendly biographies of renowned public figures and celebrities and in this, the fifty-fifth book in the series, we explore the life and times sportswoman Megan Rapinoe, Olympic gold medalist and two-time Women’s World Cup champion and a galvanising force for social change where she urges all of us to take up the mantle, with actions big and small, to continue the fight for justice and equality. Rapinoe is one of the most important voices in sport today and who will no doubt inspire a whole new generation of girls to follow their dream and take up sport regardless of whether it has traditionally been played by a certain gender. She teaches and reminds us that sport is gender less. The sports world, and in particular the football sphere, takes a huge step forward in terms of inclusion when Rapinoe stood up and advocated for sport for EVERYONE and her legacy does and will live on.

This potted biography runs from his birth, early years and the beginning of his love affair with football/soccer. It’s written in such an empowering fashion that gives children the message that they can achieve their dreams whatever they may be. What's impressive is there is just enough here to enable a child to become curious yet not enough to overwhelm, and the colourful, fun illustrations complement the text perfectly. It's an educational and entertaining read that empowers young ones to pursue their dreams without limits and inspires children to dream bigger and realise their fullest potential, by introducing them to extraordinary people throughout history. It's a wonderfully engaging and simple to understand book that also helps kids with literacy and fosters an enjoyment of reading. You simply cannot go wrong with this series in general as everything is executed perfectly and tailored beautifully to youngsters. Highly recommended.

The ‘My First Little People, Big Dreams’ series provides informative and inspirational biographies about people who left a mark on this earth, no matter what difficulties they have encountered.
These stories are concise, but that’s because they’re books for children, so it’s totally understandable.
I think they are a brilliant and wonderful way to introduce little children to such important figures.
This one here is about Megan Rapinoe, the famous Olimpic footballer. Her life and achievements indeed are great examples for every single one of us. I'm so glad children have the opportunity to read about her and to learn to embrace their own identities and to follow their dreams.

Another person I wouldn't know anything about without this picture book series. This one is about a queer woman in sports, and I believe this to be the first such story I've read here. I like it.

The illustrations are done in very bold colours, that seem to fit the story and personality of Megan Rapinoe. As always, after the short story, there is a timeline with important events in the title person's life and further reading suggestions.

Let's show toddlers that women can be famous athletes, too!

The arc was provided by the publisher.

The language is simple enough for kids to comprehend. Lovely to read about Megan's story. I really like the message the book sends. Definitely a book to recommend.

Until the 2019 Women’s World Cup I had never heard of the name Megan Rapinoe. And then she burst onto my radar for many reasons; her football talent, her colourful hair and her honest and outspoken views.

From an early age Megan loved sport. Whilst her classmates were chasing the boys, Megan was chasing footballs and dreams of football stardom. Megan’s footballing journey would see her go from a young child playing ball sports with her siblings to playing football while at Junior high before getting a college scholarship which ultimately led to professional contracts that would see her play in three different continents

Her hard work, determination and talent led to many successes on the pitch - winning numerous trophies including Olympic gold, the World Cup and personal accolades for the scoring the most goals at a tournament and being the tournament’s stand-out player.

Megan’s talents went beyond the football pitch and I love her honest views. Being a gay athlete is something that has often been discussed in the media and it is something that many athletes choose to keep to themselves but Megan wanted the world to know that she liked women and wanted to be an example to other athletes. This is such a wonderful message to young children - be comfortable with who you are and celebrate it. Even as a child Megan knew she was a bit different from the other girls - she preferred to dress differently and wear her hair in a different style - but she didn’t shy away from these differences, she embraced them because Megan knew, “There were lots of ways to be a girl.”

Megan worked tirelessly both and off the field. Whilst she was winning on the field she was also winning off the field too. She has passionately spoken about seeing equality for men and women in sport and set up a football camp for children where they could have fun and work hard, just like she had done when she was young.

Megan Rapinoe is a true inspiration to young children and gives all the right messages. Adults often tell children to follow their dreams and to be proud of who they are but at times it may feel that these words are simply being said without conviction. Rapinoe is the proof that children need, the words mean something and are one hundred percent true and achievable.

Delightfully illustrated with bright and bold artwork and with a story told in short and simple sentences, this is a great read for aspiring athletes. At the back of the the book there is a short overview of her life so far which includes key facts and dates and a historical timeline featuring photographs.

Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this book in return for an honest review.

This is a sweet look into Megan Rapinoe's life and doesn't shy away from her sexuality. It was a nice starter book into her life and the art was cute! I'm not even a football/soccer fan and I enjoyed it and now I sort of want to know more about Megan and other players.

Rating: 4⭐
Would I Read It Again? No but only because I doubt I will forget this story
Would I Recommend it? Yes. Libraries, sports lovers and young children should read this

I loved how the book focuses on Megan's sexuality to a degree and shows that she did not let that get in her way, she was a brilliant player because of it as she embraced who she was and was determined to succeed - it is a really positive story.

Coming from the UK I had never heard of Megan Rapinoe before, but because I have read some of these books before, I knew it would be a good read so I requested it to learn who she was.
You learn about her life from being born, and to what she is well known for, but it also talks about her personal life and how she is gay, and is a huge supporter for equal rights.
People in the public eye, and even people that are spoken about years later can have such a huge influence on people .And although being gay isn't who she is, it is showing children that it's fine and it didn't stop her from doing anything she wanted to do which is very positive to read.
These books are fab and will always look out for these now.

I don't get the chance to read a whole lot of kids books, chiefly due to the fact that I don't have any children of my own, so whenever I do read books designed for kids they tend to be middle grade at the youngest. There are occasionally books for younger readers that jump out at me, either due to really beautiful art, or the subject matter that they're tackling.

This book definitely falls into that latter category, and I was immediately grabbed by the fact that they were going to be teaching young children about Megan Rapinoe. A lot of children's books cover themes like family and love, about caring for others, and occasionally learning to love yourself if you're different (books like the ugly Duckling spring to my mind from my own childhood). Whilst it's brilliant to teach children about these things, and important to helping to create a kind and caring future generation I think doing so in regards to non-fictional people is so much better than anything you could make up.

Megan Rapinoe is a great real life person to do this with. The book explores Megan's childhood, and shows children that you can achieve great things by being true to yourself, whether that's by loving a 'boys' sport like football, wearing clothes and hairstyles that make you comfortable, or by having the bravery to admit you love someone people don't expect you to.

The book shows children that if they dedicate their time and effort to something that they love they can become good at it, and it can go on to have great meaning and purpose not just for them, but others too. But more importantly, it shows children that having the bravery to be yourself, to love yourself, and to share that same kindness to others is the best way of living your life.

I can't have children, but if I did have them I'd read them this book in a heartbeat, to show that that these ideas about being kind to yourself and others, and chasing your dreams aren't just empty words that parents tell their children, but real ways that people live their lives by, ones that can bring so much joy and happiness. In short, this is the kind of book that I wish I'd have had as a kid, because it would have helped me learn to love myself a whole lot quicker.

I absolutely adore the Little People, Big Dreams series and this book, focusing on Megan Rapinoe did not disappoint. Filled with glorious illustrations, these texts are a fabulous springboard for classroom discussion. I love how they cover such a broad range of famous faces, from scientists to musicians.

The story of Megan Rapinoe gives an overview of the life of this famous football player, before going on to detail her career highlights and passion for equal rights. The illustrations feel modern and fresh and match the tone of the story really well. I’m embarrassed to admit that I knew very little about Megan Rapinoe before reading this book so it most certainly served to educate me. I was really impressed by Megan’s incredible achievements, both on and off the pitch. Her message of staying true to oneself encompasses every page of her story.

I will be using this book as part of my Person of the Week work in a Year 5 classroom and think it would be a welcome addition to any school bookshelf. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

Another great addition to the Little People, BIG DREAMS collection.

This is a concise biography of Megan Rapinoe, one of the best soccer players in the world. We learn about her passion for the game, her achievements and how she uses her voice for good. I believe one of the most important quotes from this book is; “But she knew that there were lots of ways to be a girl. She just wanted to be hersef.”

These biographies are age appropriate; inspiring and interesting, but not overwhelming. They have bright, beautiful illustrations, striking covers, and look great on a shelf together.

Thank you to Quatro Publishing Group and #NetGalley for an advanced copy.
