I found this book a little boring. I didn’t like any of the characters so I didn’t care what happened to them. This is perfect for people who love character driven books

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

This story actually kept me riveted. When I started it, the fact that the POV was from the solicitor let me know it was going to be one of those stories where the POV is all over the place, if not downright omniscient. Was tempted to give up on it because of that...but so glad I stuck with it! The POV changes at every chapter, and some are shorter than others. Not much happens technically - it does all pretty much take place over one weekend, after all, but what got me was the point of views themselves. Each character read and sounded unique, each with their own issues, stuff they're not disclosing (even to the reader, which so made me turn the page). It was suspenseful not in the sense of waiting for the other shoe to drop - it's not that kind of tale - but in that it slowly reveals the depth (or lack of) and complexity of each person we're getting to 'be' through their chapters. And then near the ending is a twist that totally had me gasping, something that tied it all, that made so much make sense... Wow, I'd say read for that reveal alone, it does not disappoint at all!

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). This book was dramatic, emotional and definitely makes you evaluate things. The plot was engaging and I found myself really rooting for certain characters

Omg......... this book was amazing I flew threw the pages with Olympic speed I was hooked from the very first page. I found it full of twists and turns threw out and it kept me on the edge of my seat all the way threw  I would defiantly recommend this book if you like a good book to keep you reading threw the night hopefully you enjoy it as much as I did

Slow in places, but very thought provoking. I had to restart a couple of times as I had given up but when I did eventually keep going it was an interesting read . I didn't find it an easy read as it was too slow for me. But I would recommend.

I've seen a lot of people say that they really enjoy Caroline Bond's writing so when I saw this on NetGalley I had to give it a go! But I was slightly disappointed with this book. I don't know if I just didn't pick the right book of Caroline's or not? But hey, I can always try another one!

I found the story quite slow and dull in places. I feel the storyline had potential but it wasn't dealt with in the best way. The characters weren't likeable and I struggled to connect with any of them in any way. I was expecting a few more twists and turns given that each of the family members had their own secret/trouble in their lives.

On to the positives. I did like the way that interpersonal family dynamics were portrayed in this book. The insight into family inheritance was realistic and insightful, something that I haven't really seen portrayed in a book before which is always a positive for me.

Jonathan dies of MND, a debilitating disease and leaves his three children, Liv, Chloe and Noah as executors to decide what is done with the inheritance. His ex wife Eloise visits the family home which is where Megan his new partner also lives. His children behaved in an appalling way towards Megan and I was surprised she stayed quiet the whole time they argued amongst themselves.
Unfortunately this book was predictable and uninteresting for me to read. No twists or turns and the ending was unsurprising. It took me a long time to read because it didn’t grab my attention.

Megan was the other woman in Jonathan's divorce. The fallout within his family was severe enough, with his deteriorating health. His will stirred vitriol, with family squabbles rising to the surface as his three adult children struggled and fought their corners, while trying to honour his wishes. In The Legacy, Caroline Bond picks away at the personal scabs, highlighting the best and worst of human behaviour.
As a reader my sympathies were stretched so many ways, as she revealed the reasons behind theirs. Megan confronts her discomfort and jealousy as she realises the close relationship Jonathan built with his Carer, the indomitable Lisa, as Motor Neuron Disease stole away his independence.
His first wife Eloise had set Megan up as an evil witch, yet has to grudgingly recognise how things had really been in their marriage and the changes she had made since.
His children resumed their family roles – Liv the organiser, Noah the unreliable and Chloe the baby. But as the struggle to settle the terms of their father’s will stretches over one combustible weekend, hidden truths and personal secrets rise and fall.
The Legacy offers a fascinating insight into troubled family life, highlighting what happens when relationships drift and problems are ignored. Ultimately, do any of us really understand what makes us who we are, and are we strong enough to accept reality?

I received an Arc of this book via netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I was attracted to the book by it's novel storyline. A man dies from MND and his will leaves it to his 3 children to decide on who should get what. This was a quick read, easy to motor through but, in the main, that was because it was lacking in depth and detail.

Imagine yourself in the situation - your father has died, you have two siblings, your mother was divorced by your father in favour of a younger, newer model. You have to decide how to split the estate worth approximately £3/4 million. Even if you have disparate personalities, even if you feel you were the better son or daughter(in your mind), even if you feel the paramour or wife deserves a cut - YOU HAVE TO AGREE. There is only one way you can achieve that agreement as co-executors. The plot was as thin as cheesecloth. Even if you consider the asides with each child - all utterly predictable- you can only come to one conclusion.

There was no meat on the skeleton of this book. There was nothing that surprised me. The best that can be said for it was that it is easy reading. It wasn't awful but it sure isn't literature either

Was it a dark sense of humour or a wise attempt to provoke a transformation within his family that made him create a will that will not make their decisions easy? Or perhaps he was a trickster who loved to create a little chaos even when he is no longer there to enjoy the show.

As well as his children there is another person to be taken into account in this story. Jonathan and the mother of their children are divorced and he re-married Megan. As ever, this brings in even more complications. but Jonathan didn't want to make things easy - he created a will that left the responsibility for who gets what, entirely to his children.

To fight out, to face their deepest feelings of entitlement and/or unworthiness. Of greed, or generosity.

I liked tis book - who wouldn't enjoy an indepth analysis of what can happen in a family when the patriarch dies and the financial and emotional payouts form a battle field.

Did it seem true to life? Well not really but I didn't care. I raced through the book, marvelled at how humans can get themselves into such trouble when they won't or can't express their emotions and even sympathised with the stress of their dilemma. they can't have the funeral until it is settled so it is gloves off and let's begin!

Jonathan Coulter was a controlling and rather cruel man - instead of trying to ease things after his death he did the opposite and left his family with many unresolved and painful feelings to deal with.

I enjoyed watching the interplay between the siblings - I didn't like any of them but it made a great story. A story of family intrigue is always very satisfying!

I loved this book so much so once started I couldn't put it down. A thought provoking read and one which makes you stop and think. I loved it.

This was a really interesting read and it kept me hooked from start to finish. This is an easy read nd would recommend it to anyone who is into this genre.

This was only the second book by Caroline that I've read and whilst it wasn't as excellent as the previous one, it was still pretty good.

It was well written, especially when it came to family drama, which it seems Caroline has something of a nack for!

The characters were really well written, although at times it was difficult to like the Coulter children. I liked Megan, maybe because she was the underdog, I suppose.

This is a book about family relationships and dynamics. The elder sister who is always the one to organise and rely on, the middle child, a male who never seems to take any responsibility for his actions and the younger sister who doesn’t ever have to take her life seriously as she’s the baby. Their father dies and leaves them to sort out how his estate should be divided. There are the complications of an ex wife, mother of the three siblings and the new younger woman who looked after their father to the very end. The characters were all very well defined and the story, although it really only spans a long weekend, moves smoothly and I found myself wondering how they were going to resolve the issues.

After having a previous book of Caroline Bond’s stick with me long after I read it I was excited to see there was another. Unfortunately this one did not seem to deliver that same impact. While the storyline was well thought out and the writing was easy to follow there just didn’t seem to be the same kind of grip with this one. It never really became anything in the end.

i read this book and for some reason thought it would be fab. Having read it is is literally about a legacy, a man dies leaving his children to decide how they divide up his will or he will leave it to charity should they find they are unable to agree on how is best to divide it. They figure out, cash in on his will. The end. and it does not get any more exciting than that. I had to finish it hoping for a few twists or turns but sadly i got nothing from it as it has none. Very boring and its very rare i find a book that i dont find something i liked about the story. This sadly lacked any form of story for me at all.

This is the first book from this author that I have read and it certainly won’t be the last. Well written and thought provoking. It tackles a subject which many people will have experience of in one way or another. Good characters and definitely one to recommend.
