Thanks NetGalley, One More Chapter, and author Julie Caplin for allowing me to read an E-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions are my own! I can't tell you how excited I was to see Author Julie Caplin due to publish another book in this series! I have fallen in love with each and every installment in this series that I have read. This was an relaxing feel-good romance with a wide range of entertaining characters. Her writing allows the readers to be immediately swept up in the characters, storyline, and the atmosphere of the various countries each book is set in. The book made me want to book a ticket to the Swiss Alps to try some amazing chocolate. The author really captures the hearts of the readers not only with main characters relationships, but also the secondary characters that have there own developments. The narrator did a great job with inflections, pacing, and voicing the different characters. I was eagerly waiting for their next chance encounter. Mina and her godmother have such a sweet relationship. The reader can feel how much both of them care for each other and bring out the best of each other. Mina was a very realistic character. She seemed to be a character I would like to meet and be friends with. She had such a desire to help and care for others with her food and her compassion. Luke was Mina's perfect match! Luke had a love for life and adventure, but also was a careful person with his heart. Overall, I was smiling by the end for the HEA each of the characters received. If you are looking for an romantic getaway to the country of snow and chocolate, this book is for you!

As someone who lives in a Germanophone country (not Switzerland, however) the inclusion of Kaffee und Kuchen was a big highlight for me.

I loved this opportunity to escape from my living room for once and travel to a new country I've never seen or experienced before.

As a non-native German speaker, I was still impressed with how the narrator pronounced everything German.

Minna is a wonderful main character, and I loved following her journey. That said, some aspects of the book, espeically early on, were a little cliché and predictable for me.

A magical story set in the Swiss Alps. It's a story of love, new beginnings and finding your way in the world. A mix of great characters and interesting story, loved it.

This is the 7th book in the Romantic Escapes series. Each book is written as a stand alone designed to be a light hearted "escape" in which the MC finds romance and has fun along the way. I listened to this volume as an audiobook. The narrator read the story as intended, light hearted and fun. As written and narrated, THE LITTLE SWISS SKI CHALET managed to make me forget the tasks I was supposed to be doing as I listened to Mina run towards a vacation from her suddenly uncomfortable life into a future that is bright with potential. Her journey led me through a Swiss ski trip where, by accident or design, she will meet her future. Along the way, we learn many new things about the culture and the food. This was a really good book read to me by a very skilled narrator.

This audiobook was a delightful wintery escape and romance! I fell in love with Mina instantly and wanted her to find love and find herself more importantly. I wanted to eat so much chocolate, cake, and cheese while listening; my mouth was salivating with the food descriptions. I highly recommend this audiobook for a wintery love story, especially when we cannot travel with the pandemic.

Thank you to Julie Caplin, HarperCollins UK Audio, One More Chapter, and NetGalley for this free copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was so beautiful and heartwarming.

Mina, the main character, captured my heart as she reminded me of me at a time when I used to do impulsive acts. When an impromptu proposal to her boyfriend uncovered a betrayal, Mina was devastated, especially when the video of the disastrous act was splashed on Facebook and global media picked up on it. Work had become torturous as her ex had set her up to come across as manipulative. She had to escape it.

The Swiss Alps beckoned and so did her godmother whose invitation to the Swiss Chalet awaited her. A two week holiday she took but was pulled in by Luke, into the train and into his life.
He was exactly what she needed, and I loved how author Julie Caplin made the whole meet-cute come alive.

The narrator was sweet and her voice soothed me. Humor was weaved into their conversations, and the landscapes were vibrant and called to me.

And the chocolates, Mina was crazy about them, and though not a chocolate lover, I found myself craving one. A beautiful, romance this was an easy breezy read/listen that made my heart dance with joy and brought light to the darkened shadows. A perfect wintery read, I would say.

After a disastrous but funny marriage proposal to her boyfriend and an amusing revenge prank. Her boss isn't happy and advices her to take two weeks holiday. Ever the impulsive person she heads off to Switzerland to stay with her Godmother. With a last minute dash for the train she's pulled into the carriage by the ever so friendly Luke, who is also taking a two week break.

I loved this story. I listened to it by audiobook, the narrator was so likeable and really brought the characters to life. I loved the banter between them on the train, so funny. The 'will they won't they'was a delight to see it play out. Absolute pleasure to listen to. Loved the information about Switzerland the surroundings sound amazing and not forgetting the chocolate! Perfect escape. Loved it.

This is an audio book review for The Little Swiss Ski Chalet by Julie Caplin. This is a lovely listen, perfect for this time of year.
Mina pops the question to her boyfriend only to find out he has been sleeping with her friend! So Mina, packs her bags and heartache and goes to her godmothers Swiss Chalet to lick her wounds. The setting in this book is divine, full of so many snow scenes and ski-img you really feel like you are there and on top of that there were so many descriptions of Swiss cakes, baking and chocolate you find yourself drooling and wanting to google them all.
Will Mina find love again? Well she does have a meeting on an Alpine train on the way there and that is all I will say. A gorgeous book - lighthearted and very welcome and delightfully narrated by Victoria Fox. Thank you to Harper Collins Audio and Netgalley for my gifted copy. This audio will be out on the 22 January.

With thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK Audio for an advanced copy of this audiobook, all opinions expressed here are my own.

The Little Swiss Ski Chalet was the first book I have read by Julie Caplin. It is listed as number seven in a series, but they appear to be individual stories and easily read separately.

The main character Mina is on a soul searching mission after some personal disasters and goes to stay with her godmother in the Swiss Alps. As this is a fluffy romance, you just know she’ll meet a live along the way, but there is more to the book than this. She is out to discover what her passion is in life, not just love.

The author has developed the main and side characters well. There are delicious descriptions of the scenery and food (definitely time to eat some chocolate!) The narrator has done an excellent job of bringing this book to life. She has voiced different characters well, but most importantly, always sounds like she’s smiling at the good bits so your heart just feels happy.

A thoroughly enjoyable 3.75 star read. This audiobook releases on 30th January 2021. I will post my review to Amazon and Instagram then.

I wanted to listen to something light while I tried my latest knitting project. This seemed to fit the bill just right. First off, I must commend the narrator on a fabulous job. I listened to the audiobook at 1.25x and enjoyed every nuance that the narrator added into the story.
The beginning is simple enough, we have our leading lady- the impulsive Mina. She has jumped to imagining a future so clearly that she does not see the danger signs. This drops her into an ugly scenario from which she runs far, far away. She finds herself in a Ski Chalet in Switzerland with its own all-absorbing world. She learns, grows and comes to terms with herself. There is, of course, the caring, too-good-to-be-true love interest who adds that extra dimension. There are tinier love stories strewn into the narrative that does not detract from anything and only add extra laughs in the mix.
Finally, it should be more than evident to any reader that this is supposed to be a romantic story set in a scenic place with many delicious sounding jobs as the foundation. It delivers precisely that. I would recommend it to anyone who likes the author, exotically placed romantic stories or even for anyone who has enjoyed their visit to Switzerland!
I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.

I really wanted a cutesy romance book to read and given the time of year, I saw this book and thought it would be great for me. Thank you to @HarperCollinsUK and @JulieCaplin for this advanced audio copy of The Little Swiss Ski Chalet in return for an honest review. The Little Swiss Ski Chalet is due to be published on 30th January 2021 and you can get a copy here.

Description 🔖

Minna is a food technician and her thing is chocolate. She needs plenty of it when her latest relationship goes south. The timing couldn’t be more perfect when her godmother invites her to Switzerland to stay in her cosy ski chalet. The home of chocolate is just what Minna needs; romance is not. But sometimes romance finds you even when you don’t want to be found.

General Thoughts 🤔

To begin with, I wanted cute and this book certainly gave me cute. What I particularly loved was the vivid description of the setting. The ski chalet sounded absolutely beautiful and I found myself wanting to be there with Minna on her getaway. Although Minna went there with the intention of working out what she wanted from her life, it’s a romance book, so obviously a man had to come along into the story. The back and forth between Minna and Luke was fun to follow and had the expected romantic ending.

I will say, the book is kind of predictable, but I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing. We all know how romance stories go, there’s a meet cute (as per The Holiday), there are some hiccups and then everything ends with love hearts and tingly warm feelings.

Characters 👭👬👫

I have to be straight, Minna’s character did grate on me a little. She was just so away with the fairies, I wanted to drag her back down to earth. I suppose it did all work out for her in the end, but that’s really not how it goes for most people.

The godmother was my favourite character. I thought that she was a good influence on Minna and I liked that she was so supportive of Minna following and achieving her dreams in her career. She was a hard working woman who found her own romance and I thought that she was the most deserving of this out of all the characters in the book.

Writing Style ✍️

I was impressed with the description of the settings and surroundings in this book. There were times when I could see Switzerland in my mind really clearly. I’d go as far to say that reading about Switzerland and the little bits of information about culture, traditions and food were probably the thing I enjoyed most about this book.

The narration of the book was engaging and appropriate for the story. I loved the different accents that were used, it helped to bring the characters to life.

Conclusion & Scoring 🏅

I wanted a fluffy romantic book to read right before Christmas and this book gave me exactly that. I can’t say that it has the most complex or even realistic storyline, but then that’s not what I was expecting. Under usual circumstances, this would potentially be a book I wouldn’t go for, but I’m glad that I gave it a chance as it put a smile on my face at a time when I was struggling to do that for myself.

Julie Caplin never fails to please. I have been fortunate enough to have been able to read the book and listen to the audiobook, courtesy of Net Galley. A lovely winter story, following the adventures of an initially downhearted young lady who finds friends, adventure and romance to enable her to blossom. Lots of good food, baking and snow sports to add fun to the story. A good and relaxing read and listen.

What's not to love? Julie Caplin + new book in the "Romantic escapes" series + chocolate - it's a match made in heaven!

I listened to the audio version of the book and the narrator was so good. At one point I had to check that there was only one narrator as the different voices were excellent and certainly added to the enjoyment of the story.

The book begins with Mina who has a surprise for her boyfriend, and the surprise goes viral. No spoilers but I was not fond of the boyfriend. However, this spurs her into taking action and going to stay in Switzerland, with her Godmother who owns a ski chalet. The description of her journey her shopping en route, I felt like I was there, a real dose of escapism. I also learnt a few things, about food, skiing and Switzerland.

Not only were all the characters (in the main!) in this book absolutely lovely, the descriptions of the chocolate and food just had me drooling. I suggest you have some chocolate on hand before beginning this book because you will be craving it in no time.

If you haven't gathered by now - I just loved this book and am giving it 5 out of 5 stars. My thanks to netgalley for the ARC of the audio. It is available on kindle now, but you will have to wait a little longer for the paperback and audio.

The Little Swiss Ski Chalet by Julie Caplin, Narrator Victoria Fox

This is a great, festive, relaxing, breezy, and adorable contemporary romance set in the snowy Alps amongst love, new chances for life and....chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate.

I adored this relaxing, feel-good, and entertaining romance. I enjoyed Mina and her quest for overcoming the disappointments she has experienced, and I am glad she was able to find herself and happiness. This book put me in the holiday spirit, and all of the scrumptious descriptions of chocolate made my mouth water and my stomach is even grumbling just remembering the enjoyable read.

The narrator did a great job with inflections, pacing, and voicing the different characters. A great addition.

If you love contemporary romance, European destinations, and desert, you will love this book.
