I was slightly disappointed by this book.
The setting was really unusual. The plot had lots of promise, but it failed to deliver.
In the end, it was just an average thriller

I mean it was a thriller, but the setting was chosen just for drama and didn;t feel realistic at all.

Dragging and not very engaging. The characters themselves weren't really likeable, much less sympathetic, and it was hard to care for them and thus care for the story and what happening. Also, the hype of the start wasn't met at any point during, which felt like a let-down overall

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

The Wild Girls by Phoebe Morgan is an exhilarating, heart-stopping rollercoaster of a read. Morgan tells the story of four friends on a luxury retreat in Botswana’s sun-soaked plains who soon discover there is much more at stake than just celebrating a birthday. From the outset, a feeling of unease settles in, and it’s up to them to navigate a web of lies, secrets, and obsessions.

Tension rises as the reader is taken through each friend’s struggles and backstory, making them increasingly desperate to escape their present situation and save themselves. Despite their personal issues, each of the girls draws strength from each other, eventually forming a powerful bond as the danger intensifies.

Overall, this novel will keep readers on their toes until the very end. It’s a gripping and emotional read that provides an immersive experience into the unknown.

Great story, focusing on the trials and tribulations of a lifetime friendship, with the good and bad things that can happen along the way.
A tense thriller that had me gripped throughout, with a great ending that i did not see coming
Thoroughly enjoyed this book

This is the third book I have read by Pheobe Morgan and like the previous two I really enjoyed it. There’s always a lot of tense uneasiness of the stories she tells.
The four ladies the story is about have not seen each other for a couple of years, although they used to be very close but as the book unravels we start to find out how four friends so close become almost like strangers. One of the ladies has her 30th birthday coming up and reaches out to other girls to join her in a very remote complex in Botswana. All through the story there is a feeling of dread and uncertainty about why the ladies are really there. A good book with some good twists along the way

Brilliant thriller which I really enjoyed. The storyline progressed well and I loved the twists which caught me out, the characters were well written and I found the dialogue to be really authentic. Fabulous and will read more by this author in the future

A fastpaced, tense but predictable thriller. I did not believe in the friendship between the girls and guessed the denouement early on. The prologue spoiled much of the plot. Otherwise a decent beach read.

Absolutely loved the characters, the plot, the tension - impossible to put it down.
Certainly recommended!

A little predictable so the shock factor wasn’t really there, but a clever storyline and one that keeps you interested. Good writing and liked the different timelines and points of view of each character.

This was a very difficult story to get involved in. The storyline seemed very unlikely and the characters supposedly great friends just didn't work for me. I read it to the end but didn't feel any fulfillment when finished..

This book was okay but didn’t really keep me gripped. It felt like there were so many issues with the book that kept bringing me out of the experience, alleged best friends none of whom trust each other?? Just didn’t quite work for me

A great thriller with lots of twists and turns set Botswana. A group of friends go on an all expenses paid holiday but secrets start to come out and things from their past begin to catch up with them.

The premise of the novel sounds great, suspenseful and the makings of a great thriller.
As the story got started I found it to be a bit unrealistic - would you accept an invite from a 'friend' who you haven't heard from in years to go and celebrate her birthday? It's a no from me.
There were some moments where the suspense built up and then there was some very quick action. It was ok, I didn't dislike it.

I’d like to thank NetGalley and HQ for approving me for an ARC of this book.

The story starts when Grace, Hannah and Alice are invited to celebrate their friend Felicity’s 30th birthday party. It’s an all expenses paid trip to Botswana and despite not seeing or speaking to each other for two years they all decide to go. I guess in their mind they are thinking this could be a chance to fix their friendship and resolve what caused them to split apart.

The story alternates between the four friends POV and initially the story focuses entirely on the trip to Botswana. Later in the story we flick back to two years previous, where we learn what happened between the women.

I really enjoyed the writing style and the way the author switched between the four women’s narratives. Each time I was left wondering what each storyteller was hiding. They all clearly had regrets and I desperately wanted to know their secrets. Of all the women I liked Grace the most. She seemed to be the most honest of them both and whilst she worried a lot I think she had the best survival instincts of them all.

As the scenes play out in Botswana it is clear that something isn’t right. What unfolds is a nightmare and at time I found it utterly terrifying. Without giving too much away there are a few shocking revelations that I hadn’t expected. The ending left me with chills!

This was a brilliant read! Phoebe has created a dramatic book that i was hooked on from the very beginning. When a group of friends head to a luxury retreat, drama is sure to unfold. Whilst once they were the closest of friends, things changed and was it time to push these things aside for the sake of friendship?
Once they arrive though, things are not as they seem and what follows is a dark dramatic and thriller read for the rest of the holiday. Full of things i didnt see coming, i could not get enough of this book.

The Wild Girls is a psychological crime thriller that will keep you gripped throughout with lies, jealousy and murder!

The Setting of Botswana is absolutely stunning and I think that makes it all the more exciting when things start to happen.

The Characters are really well developed and I liked the uniqueness of each of them.  The chapters alternate between the Wild Girls and also flip back to a past event, I really liked having each girls interpretation of what was happening as it built a good picture.

I had a theory from the beginning and I was pretty far off to be honest, which I was pleased about!  I love a thriller that keeps you guessing and is filled with red herrings.

I definitely recommend this book, especially if you liked The Island by CL Taylor as I found the escapist theming quite similar.
