Wow. I was gripped from the very beginning with this book and honestly did not expect any of the twists and turns it took. I seriously enjoyed this book and wasn't able to put it down. Such a brilliant thriller and kept me guessing the entire time. One of the best books I've read so far in 2021. Looking forward to reading more of Phoebe's work.

The Wild Girls by Phoebe Morgan is a compulsive psychological suspense that I just could not put down and I read it in just one sitting.
The reader is aware from the start that something has happened in the past to destroy a close friendship of four girls. As the novel begins, the four friends are about to embark on a holiday to rekindle their friendship. It is a dream scenario but the nightmare is just beginning.
The novel is written from the point of view of the four individuals and has two time periods – ‘now’ and ‘before.’ As the story progresses the reader tries to join the dots – and we all know how good I am at that, I failed (again!)
As the action unfolds, the atmosphere becomes creepier. Suspicion and suspense are all around. The reader realises everyone is hiding something and all is not as it seems.
There are some deep obsessions within the tale. When love is an obsession it can easily become twisted. The lines blur between fact and fiction – whose version will you believe?
The Wild Girls was a truly marvellous read. Phoebe Morgan is the master of her craft and I cannot wait for more from her.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

An all expenses paid trip abroad with some of your best friends.

Now that's living the dream, right?

This is a deliciously dark and worrisome read.

The Wild Girls took me to a place that I wasn't expecting to go!

What I thought would be a journey of discovery and redemption turned into something quite murderous.

Secrets and lies catch up with a group of four women, all of which crave something more from the lives that they are currently living.

But what they find waiting for them in beautiful lodge in the middle of nowhere is actually the stuff of nightmares.

As things that they thought were buried come to the surface, what transpires is not what any of them were imagining.

Frightening friendships.

Passions and obsessions take over in the tale of betrayal and deception.

The Wild Girls will have you questioning just who you can trust.

3 former close friends are sent an invite to a birthday party in Botswana from the fourth in the group. All expenses paid - how exciting! Alice, a teacher in London, can’t wait to get away from her controlling boyfriend, Hannah, the new mum, struggles with having to leave her baby, and a growing suspicion about her husband, and Grace just wants to get away. Their former friend Felicity - who had it all , seems to ant to make amends.
The story flicks from one woman to another, seemingly with no reason. What happened 2 years ago that caused the split?
Their trip to Botswana - a big country - but no towns mentioned. Not too much research has gone into his part of the story - there are few direct flights which would take you to a safari camp within half an hours drive of the airport, and there are some other discrepancies which don’t make sense.
An easy read - only a few hours but not much to excite me about it.

A slow burn start, but a necessary one to get to know the characters. Once you settle down with who is who, the story rattles along and is a cracker.

A great story with credible characters, I felt I knew. Loved it.

Recommend.

Well Phoebe Morgan did it again, only better! After having read her previous titles, The Doll House, The Girl Next Door and The Babysitter I was really rather keen to read this one. The Wild Girls is about friendship, loyalty, betrayal and how the dynamics between a close knit group of friends can take a turn. All set within a brilliant backdrop of South Africa where you can really feel the environment playing a part in the suspense. I just loved this authors use of descriptive language as it meant I could really visualise the scenes unfolding and sense the emotions of the characters. The only downside to this book for me was that it took me a while to grasp which character was which as it kept flipping between each of the four main protagonists, and so at the start of the book i had to keep checking who was who. But it was definitely worth it. I thoroughly enjoyed this read; it was gripping, filled with suspense and 'wild'! In my view Phoebe Morgans best one yet and I look forward to where she goes next!

Sheer genius. I absolutely loved this read, this thriller, sneakily packaged as a group of best friends on a birthday trip. It was a bit of a slow starter for me, but quickly gathered momentum! I found myself holding my breath, almost checking over my shoulder that no one was about to appear in my darkened room in the evening. I believe all of us can relate to one of the girls, or perhaps all of them on some level. This read very briefly hints at sensitive subject matter. Highly recommend!

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

This story is based around four close friends, who have been friends since childhood, Felicity, Grace, Alice, and Hannah. The only thing is they haven’t been as close over the past two years, since something happened one night that all but ruined their friendship. In the present day, Grace lives with her flat mate, Hannah is married and has a baby, Alice lives with her boyfriend Tom, and Felicity moved to New York with her boyfriend Nate. Despite no contact, one morning, Grace, Hannah, and Alice all receive invites for an all expenses paid trip to Botswana for Felicity’s birthday. All three decide to go, and travel to Botswana where they stay in an expensive and luxurious lodge complex. But things feel off. Felicity feigns illness and doesn’t see them when they arrive, but promises to see them the next morning for a safari. And then things go from bad to worse, as they are all hiding secrets from 2 years ago.

I loved this book, I have read all of this authors books, and this one is as brilliant as the rest. The characters were all relatable in their own ways, and all have annoying traits to their personalities. The storyline ran in two timelines, the present and the past, so we are drip fed the secrets they’re all holding. We all see from each characters point of view, which I really liked, so it gave all angles of the story. The plot flowed really well, and I read this really quickly. I would highly recommend to all.

Phoebe Morgan is such a talented author. This book has completely blown me away and is hands down the best by Ms Morgan yet.
This is truly a literary masterpiece and has kept me awake far too late. I have devoured page after page; I have read this in just one sitting and been left wanting more.
I have nothing negative I can say about this book. I have adored the characters, although I would love to know if they are named from the PR team. The cover of this book is stunning and definitely catches the eye of the reader.
This is intriguing and filled with the perfect amount of suspense and tension. I have found this completely unique and unpredictable.
I 100% need more from Ms Morgan following this book. It is definitely my favourite yet. This is a masterpiece and utterly fantastic read, completely worthy of all the stars.
I highly recommend this book.

I thought this was a fabulous book. I loved the characters, the setting, and the story. The pace of the book was great, and I had no idea who did what, I loved it .I did have some ideas but I wasn't really correct, and it kept me page turning and reading as fast as I could until the last page. I really enjoyed it.

Unputdownable. The twists and turns keep coming. A tale of passion and obsession. Blank out a rainy Sunday for this one..

Four very close friends come together in Botswana for Felicity’s 30th birthday. They have been friends for many years but a couple of years ago they fell out seriously over Felicity’s new boyfriend, Nathaniel and have not seen each other since. The birthday invitation was a complete surprise to all of them especially as it was being held in Botswana with all expenses paid. The girls are very different, one outgoing, one homely, one shy and one, Felicity, completely obsessive especially over boyfriends. The other girls, Hannah, Alice and Grace eventually talk over whattsapp and they decide they will go to the party and hopefully put the argument to rest so that they can go back to the way things used to be. They arrive at the Lodge to find that there is no one there but as a day before the party they were not unduly worried.. They receive a text from Felicity saying she is poorly and they should meet up in the morning. Things go really weirdly and the girls begin to worry with Felicity not appearing. The story twists and turns in a very unexpected way and I found this to be a book to read without stopping (if only). The story culminates in a way I did not expect especially the last couple of paragraphs. Umm I wonder. Fab book

You know those books that are written in a way that you sink into like a hug, warm and all enveloping… A book that is so your vibe it feels like coming home?

For us this is that book!!

Phoebe Morgan transports us to the tropical climes of Botswana, it’s cloying heat intensifying the claustrophobic feel of the deserted lodge where all is not as the four friends anticipated as their dream holiday reunion takes a deadly turn. Quite quickly we discover that there is a darkness between the friends, an two years previously has halted their once intimate friendship group in its tracks… But we don’t know what happened?

As this twisty, tale starts to reveal itself at a pace that gathers speed and leaves you hungry to find out more, we realise as they do that it’s not just the wild animals they are surrounded by that are being hunted down…

The characters in this novel are brilliantly drawn, fleshed out, real everyday women you can recognise and relate to, with a complex long standing friendship group that most women can understand. This is in part what makes the novel so chilling, it’s central characters so real, so human and down to earth that when they find themselves in the middle of a deadly game of cat and mouse it feels even more terrifying.

To say this book is unputdownable ( no such word 🙈, but there should be! ) is an understatement, with its twisty plot playing out in a never ending horror of dark secrets, bitterness, betrayal and obsession which reaches its murderous conclusion under the blazing hot South African sun. This is without doubt a try to read in one sitting popcorn thriller that you read hungrily desperate for answers. It offers escapism, thrills and chills a plenty which is perfect for anyone suffering lockdown fever right now.

Phoebe Morgan is now firmly on our radar as an author we want to read more of and we are already exploring her back catalog, she proves herself to be an eloquent writer who builds tension and provides an adrenaline fuelled storyline perfectly. In The wild girls it’s pace doesn’t abate! Phoebe is also a brilliant observationalist able to write characters in a way that is life like and utterly believable which we found really enhanced the reading pleasure for us.

The Wild Girls comes as highly recommended by all of us bookish gals @Thriller girls HQ.
It’s a brilliant entertaining 5 ⭐️ read with plenty of surprises and an ending you simple didn’t see coming!

The girls aren't as wild as they think- but I did enjoy this- slight twist at the end, but maybe a little predictable. I want to stay at the lodges- they sound perfect.

The premise of this book was great, unfortunately it fell flat.
After like 50% of the book you already know who was kileld. The next 30-40% is basically just the "before" part when we get to know why the girld became estragned. I wasn't a huge fan of this way of telling the story - I much rather like when it's told piece by piece.
The rest of the story we get to know who the killer was, which wasn't particulary surprising and too much straight forward for my liking.
Also, even though the story takes place in Botswana you don't actually feel it. It could have been in Cornwall for all I know, since nothing there gave me the impression of even being abroad. A simple safari scene (with possibly a sinister twist, like one of the reviewers suggested) would have changed a great deal.

I also had a great problem with telling the three girls apart - every now and then I had to check who's the narrator in the chapter, because their voices were so somiliar.

This book follows four friends who reunite after two years to celebrate a birthday with a luxury holiday to Botswana. They soon begin to feel uneasy upon their arrival, realising they are alone in the wild with no phone signal.

I found Morgan's writing style so easy to read and fast paced, I was able to read this book in only a few sittings. I liked how Morgan wrote from all the girls points of view, detailing their past as well as present experiences which helped build the tension. Once I started reading this book and the plot developed I was reluctant to put it down.

I was able to connect to the different characters for different reasons but did find them all fairly stereotypical. So much happens in the last part of the book and Morgan definitely kept me guessing and included some really good twists.

I recommend this book if you enjoy an addictive and fast paced thriller. A huge thank you to Netgalley and HQ for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unedited feedback.

Wow. What a read. My first Phoebe Morgan book and it didn’t disappoint. Set in Botswana, this really isn’t what you expect. Full of twists and turns that you really don’t see coming and revealed slowly enough to keep you guessing. I absolutely loved this.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Having read and absolutely loved The Doll House, I was delighted to get the chance to read the arc of The Wild Girls.
The story was easy to get straight into, and the narrative was clear and flowed well. From the descriptive writing of the characters I was able to form images in my head of what each girl might look like.
The plot was exciting and gripping, and I had to make myself put the book down each night. It was very easy to just keep reading on and on.
I didn't find the ending a total suprise, I had an inkling how the story might pan out. When I turned the last page I wasn't prepared for the end of the book, I was expecting a final little twist to finish, so I was left slightly disappointed.

I have just spent about five days with Grace, Hannah, Alice, and Felicity. There was a time when the four were inseparable, best friends forever, except a series of secrets, lies, and truths have kept them apart. Maybe an invite to an exclusive party at a luxurious Lodge in Botswana will bring the friends back together, or... maybe they will pay for the sins of their friends....'We believe what we want to believe, we all alter our own version of events, we spin our own histories, smoothing things over, and playing them up'.....
A well written tale of love and friendship and obsession and control. This story is full of characters as vivid and alive as the African landscape. This book is for anyone who has experienced love, friendship, loss, tragedy, violence and hope.

I loved this book. How the author could make hot sunny Botswana feel as creepy as a derelict cottage in the middle of nowhere I don’t know, but she did.
I found all the characters interesting and the storyline compelling
