Gorgeous audiobook for kids, it would be nice to listen to on car journeys or as a school resource. Informative and fun, fosters an interest in wildlife and habitats!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to access an advance copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion.

Facts aplenty in a ‘mission’ like format.

I liked the idea of a short but interactive-feeling listen in the car for my 3 year old, who's quite used to listening to stories in the car.

He likes animals, he likes narrated books. And this is a really nicely produced audioread. He is possibly simply a little young for the content.

It's a chatty look at animals in the extreme regions of both poles. With a narration and through-story, an enthusiastic explorer and bird chat as they travel and see animals, with lots of facts thrown in.

Facts aren't ideally presented for children in an audiobook, but the producers of this have done a great job making this as entertaining and lively as possible. And there are lots of facts, even some adults won't know.

It's just tricky for a small person to take this content in through the ear alone. Diagrams and pictures, stopping for discussion, these are more natural with this kind of material.

So though my boy did listen, I can't honestly say he took a great deal in, even though he repeatedly asked to listen on every journey.

It's one I want to return to in a year or so, when I think his ability to internalise such non-fiction content might be more advanced. I would recommend this, but for children in Reception/Year 1 and a little older, rather than those in Nursery like my boy.

Very well narrated, loved the young voice and the bird's chatter, the content itself was also varied and interesting, and just right for a young and inquisitive audience of the right age.

For 5-8 year olds.

With thanks to Netgalley for providing a sample audio copy.

A beautiful listen, we lovely it and purposely went on drives so we could listen to it it more often. I can’t wait to play it for my class when we return to school.

This is such a wonderful audio book for children. My 8 & 6 year olds really enjoyed it, the narrator made it fun for them to listen to while learning lots of facts at the same time.

My two children aged 4 and 6 loved this book. So many great facts and some lovely characters to follow as well. This is the sort of audiobook I would play to them in the car - really entertaining for both adults and children.

This was a frankly adorable, under an hour listen whilst I pottered about this morning.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Ladybird Audio Adventures collection and The Frozen World did not disappoint. Ben Bailey-Smith is a delightful children's narrator, warm and engaging, explaining the new words and animals he and Missy encounter in a clear and informative way. Given the targeted audience for this collection I wasn't expecting to learn anything new but I was surprised with the amount of previously unknown facts I came away with. Kristen Atherton as Missy is was seriously cute, and such a great for children to learn as she asks all the questions they would.

The sound design is gorgeous and adds an additional element of immersion. You'd be forgiven for thinking this had been recorded in binarual, giving the layering of background and foreground effects, The intro/outro music was a lovely touch and neatly wrapped up a very enjoyable listen.
