A really disappointing book that glorifies violence. This book should never have been published for both the material and the quality of writing.

The Guv'nor and Me by John Houchin and Lee Wortley is the story of Houchin's life and career as a Doorman, debt collector and actor. Most of the book is about his time as Lenny McClean's protege, hence the "catch the punter's attention" title.
This isn't for the average reader but those with an interest in a profession that has always been on the fringes of the underworld and spawned the wildest of stories will love it. Houchin is a natural storyteller and tells of minding the doors from spit and sawdust dives where Angels fear to tread to London's upmarket clubs where the rich and famous go for their jollies. Some of it is very funny, not least the story of 2 of the country's toughest doormen being held at bay by an irate Shih Tzu .
My only beef with the book was the claim made several times that Lenny McClean wasn't a bully,I've seen and read several people saying the opposite, including his second cousin Frank Warren in an interview that can be found on Youtube., and Warren grew up with him.
This is quite a quick read and very entertaining as long as you know what to expect, the casual reader might well find himself shell-shocked by page after page of quite explicit violence, not least bearing in mind that this is not a work of fiction.
