Success means doing what you set out to do — even if you fail. I'm a writer so success is every time I write. Even if no-one reads it.

What's holding you back?

Fear of success. Fear of failure. Imposter syndrome. Mostly fear. Nothing and no-one is keeping you from the success you deserve. Not really. If you see obstacles as outside your locus of control then you've a convenient excuse to do nothing about them.

If everyone lived truly happy, successful, and fulfilled lives then no-one would take out the bins. Metaphorically I mean. Society / the media wants to sell you the idea of success as something out of reach so that you have to keep striving for it. Like Tantalus.

Not quite what I was expecting more of a reflection on their own stories than a self help. Thank you to publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

This book was alright, I expected this to lean a little more into non-fiction than self help due to blurb. Felt a little too middle class for my liking

This book gave me an interesting look into the life of Ulman and how he decided to make a change.
This isnt your typical self help book it is more a telling of the life of Ulman.
I loved the quotes and how the steps are explained in real life situations

This book starts off with some context about how the author came to be on this path. It starts off very scary but becomes very inspiring and motivational. It’s a story about how Ulman turned his life around in spite of the odds — where he gets his strength from, I’ll never know! But perseverance is key and the author reaps the benefits of his hard work.

Ulman shares with us the wisdom of he imparts during his popular, coveted seminars to help others essentially get their lives together. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read, and I personally took a lot away from it that will help shape my life and my attitude going forward.

It’s a real feel-good book; I would recommend it to anyone in a rut, and particularly people interested in sports and fitness.

I've read a ton of self help, and this one is pretty good. Everyone can connect with the same info, but it depends on how/who presents it, so this won't be for everyone. However, the advice here is solid, and there are some very good quotes. Some readers will connect with the very personal style and experiences of the author. It may be best for those early or relatively early in their careers.

Thanks very much for the ARC for review!!

I always find that I like to start a new year off with a good amount of non-fiction, self-help and books that can change your life - the new year, new me etc. I found this book to have good content, I enjoyed the author correlating what his own beliefs, but at times it felt more like a memoir than a self-help book. Possible advice would be to change the genre and/or description so readers are more aware. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC. Overall, 2.5-3 stars for me as I did skim-read over some parts.

This is a really interesting story and insight into Ulman's life as a commander in the military, deciding to become an Ironman and then his shift into the business world.

At some parts of the book, I was really into the story and found it very engaging and there were other parts that lacked substance for me. This book is less a self-help book and more a memoir of Ulman's life. His insights into what led him to success and how he honed his motivation were my favourite parts of the book. He really has an inspirational story, and I found it so interesting to learn about his life.

Unfortunately his "steps to success" were not very well-organised. Sometimes during the book, I found the direction and structure was a bit all over the place and hard to follow. The book needed more direction and editing to make it easier to take key advice from the book.

The key takeaway from this book is just DO IT! Here's a quote from the book that I particularly liked: "And why didn't I do it? Ah because of... karma, luck, fate, genetics, my wife, my boss, reserve duty, finances, the situation, the organisational culture, my children, the Finance Minister, the Prime Minister, bird flu, the fiscal cliff, the cost of cottage cheese.... But none of those fit. There just weren't the right conditions. And it's too bad, because I would have done it. Really!"

Narrowing success down to 6 steps sounds like a crazy dream. Though, after tearing through this book, hard work does pay off. I liked this. Though, like any book with steps and goals, it comes down to a way of life. I'll definitely share this with my students and even my staff (we'll see if they follow along). I will.
