"The Lucky Escape" by Laura Jane Williams is a pleasure to read, like all of her books. The writing is relatable and easy to follow, and the heartwarming romance between Annie and Patrick is delightful. Despite the predictability of the plot, it's still an enjoyable read. If you're looking for a light and heartwarming romance novel to curl up with, then "The Lucky Escape" is definitely worth a read.

*received an audio and e-arc and let review on both.

I absolutely adored this story, I thought that the narrators were fantastic and it was an all round fantastic read. I'm so grateful to have been given the opportunity to read it.

This was the first book I've read from this author and I really enjoyed it. The story was different from anything I've read recently and really captured my attention. It was so well written.

I was so shocked how this book started with what he did to her that I really wanted her to have her happy after.

Loved the friendships she had.
And the relationship with her sister.

Travelling around Oz was cool
The music festival loved that scene

I really felt for her with her mums relationship.

Loved Richard.

Book on second chances, romance, friendship and family. Defo a must read.

“The Lucky Escape” is the perfect beach read. Is it predictable? Sure. But is it an easy, feel good book? Absolutely. It is the story of a woman’s growth and how she overcomes being left jilted at the altar. Anyone who has had to pick up the pieces and move on will enjoy this book. It deals with heartbreak in a light hearted way and is not too heavy. Add in a slow burn romance and this book is easy to read!

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me an ARC of “The Lucky Escape” by Laura Jane Williams.

The Lucky Escape by Laura Jane Williams

This is what I would call a contemporary romance novel. Annie is getting ready for her wedding (like day of the wedding getting ready) when the wedding planner brings her a message from her fiancé letting her know the wedding is off.

Annie hides away for days then decides to get on with her life. Her first stop - a horrendous sounding CrossFit like work out place where she runs into an old friend, Patrick. Annie decides to go on her luxury honeymoon and decides to take Patrick along.
I’m sure you know where this is going but I especially liked the travel through Australia.

Loved this. Grabbed my attention from the start and didn't let go. Read in one sitting. The first book I've read by this writer, but I will be looking out for more.

Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.

From the cover I was expecting a light hearted romance but unfortunately that is not what I got. It's not a bad book, but unfortunately it wasn't a book for me.

It was supposed to be one of the happiest days of her life, except two hours before she is due to get married Annie finds out that Alexander has jilted her. Unsure on where she goes from here she bumps into an old friend Patrick who manages to bring an ease to her troubled world. Opting to take him on the honeymoon she should have been taking with her husband, they have fun together. But when they share a kiss she worries that everything is happening too fast and if it will all go up in a puff of smoke like her last relationship.

This was a fun read for me! I really enjoyed it, and thought it was pretty lighthearted and enjoyable. I love a vacation story or honeymoon story, and this one was no exception!

I really wanted to love this book, but I just couldn't connect with Annie for some reason. I loved the whole jilted bride who goes on her honeymoon with an old camp friend.

Annie and Alexander are getting married in 2 hours. When she arrives at the church, the wedding planner tells her that Alexander isn't coming. He didn't even bother to text or call Annie, but he texted the wedding planner to tell her that he wasn't coming instead. Annie is humiliated. She hides in their house, not eating, not showering, just sleeping and crying. She starts running when sleep eludes her. One day she runs past a boot camp gym. Annie decides to take one class. She loves it and signs up for 10 more. That's where she runs into her old camp friend Patrick. They haven't seen each other since they were 14. Annie can be her old self around Patrick, he listens to her when she speaks. It makes her realize that her fiancee never did.

Everyone wants Annie to go on her honeymoon to get out of London to clear her mind and have a vacation. It's a 3 week trip to Australia. Over drinks one night, she asks Patrick if he'd like to go with her as a friend, he agrees. On the honeymoon, Annie decides to say yes to everything. To stop being afraid and be brave.

When she was 14 years old, she was bullied and she decided to change herself to please others. Never pick a fight, never confront someone if they are wrong, etc. She's never stopped being that way. But now is the perfect time for change.

Patrick and Annie get closer while they are away and Annie realizes that she has a crush on him. He's becoming more open with her talking about his life, telling her personal things. Having his trust means the world to her.

When they kiss one night, everything changes for the better. But when they get back to London, Annie's mind starts going in circles. Is it too fast that they are a couple?

It drove me bananas that she's trying to change her ways, but the second her mom says something negative to her (which is always) Annie starts to rethink everything she already decided on.

When your groom doesn't show up, what else is there to do, but to take the honeymoon you were supposed to be on together? Loved this quirky but emotional story from Laura Jane Williams. Sometimes the British humor went over my head but I really enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed Our Stop and so knew I had to pick up her next book!

This was such a light, quick read. I stormed through it in 24 hours! No mean feat with a 5 year old demanding attention! It was a fun, bubbly read that was exactly what I needed to end my summer holiday!

I was a little unsure about the whole, taking a guy you've only just met, on your honeymoon after being jilted at the altar, but it did seem to work. I originally thought she would have been better off taking Adzo or even Freddie! They would have been equally helpful at helping her find her lost self. However Paddy's enthusiasm and zest for life was a necessary tonic and so it worked well.

I enjoyed the journey of self discovery and the strength of character that arose. The characters were all great fun (except her mother - I wanted to tell her off something rotten!) But her friends were great 👍 and I loved the relationship with her younger sister.

All in all this was a great, refreshing summer read. Perfect for when lounging in the sun and relaxing!

I took this away with me on a heatwaved trip to Cornwall, it was just the tonic I needed.

I raced through this in 24 hours. I loved the two main characters, I do feel I felt connected to their story as I met my current husband 4 weeks after a break up, we both dated in each at school but parted ways afterwards. I've been through the roller coaster of emoitions that these two went through so it clicked more for me.

It is a exactly what people need to escape in, the oohhs and ahhs of the storyline, the decription of the honeymoon away and finding their way when they got back.

I would recommend this for an easy beach read.

I was sadly disappointed with this one at the beginning, I really liked One Stop and was keen to give this one a read. But I found the characters seemed to all have cutesy nicknames a bit irritating and really struggled to get into it in the beginning. After about 25% in I started to enjoy it and found that I went through it rather quickly. This one is perfect for a summer beach read, it’s a quick and easy read.
