DeeAnn Turner’s new book, Crush Your Career, was a great eye opener for me. It is chock full of many helpful guidelines to successfully glide through interviews, create a work ethic and develop strong leadership skills. I could even see this being used in colleges to teach business management classes. One of my favorite quotes from the book is, “If you keep doing the next thing, you will eventually find the right thing.” Persistence is one of the key ingredients to both finding the best job that fits as well as being the leader who is willing to teach others these career skills. I discovered so many valuable ingredients to this recipe for crushing your career, all contained on the pages of this book!

There are a few go-to books that I have, and this will definitely be one of them. This book is packed full of wisdom as Dee Ann Turner reflects back on her 30 plus years of helping others find their calling and passions. She took me on a journey of embarking in a career journey to pursue the work I was meant to do. While I am not in the midst of a job search personally, I come alongside others who are trying to discern their next steps and also have two college age children who will soon be entering into the workforce. I resonated with Dee Ann’s statement that “we learn much more by our mistakes than we do by our successes” and found her to be vulnerable with her own mistakes which caused me to reflect back on my own life. This book also gave me clarity on the importance of having a personal purpose which informs every decision I make in life and how I need to have an intentional plan to keep me on track with where I want to go. In addition to these concepts, I wrote down many others that I will contemplate for years to come.

As a mom seeking to go back to the workforce this was a great book to get my mind focused. I wanted to read something that would inspire me to not just have a job but, to have an impactful career. I want to set great examples for my daughters. Dee Ann’s ethics and servant leadership style coupled with ways to help nurture and grow my career will help prepare me for this season of my life. I can see this book being great for college graduates and I can also see this being great for someone who just feels like they need a positive outlook on their career. This book comes highly recommended for all levels.
