Little Wishes

For 49 years Tom has been leaving a crocus and a wish on Elizabeth's doorstep.
Little Wishes of what they should be doing together.

Why aren't they together? What stopped these two obviously meant to be, from being together?

"The vista was as wide and great as anything she had ever seen. A big sky under which small decisions were taken that changed the course of whole lives."

Little wishes will draw you in with its charming love story that never blossomed. A story of second chances at love. It will have you tutting loudly at Tom and Elizabeth for not voicing their opinions and for not acting on their desires.

Little Wishes will have you seething at Dr Warbeck for his interfering with loves young dream and wanting what he should never have kept.

Little Wishes will make you cry when the truths come out. The lies that have been kept secret for so many years.

Little Wishes will have you reminiscent of what could have been in your lives. What things did you step away from that could have changed your course of life.

Little Wishes is a charming, wonderful, heartwarming story that will leave you feeling like a mushy mess inside.

Simply beautiful. An engaging and brilliant story of young loves,Elizabeth and Tom, and how their family loyalties and listening to second hand ‘truths’ shaped their future. I was so invested in this story that I had to stop myself from reading so much because I wanted to savour it forever. I sobbed for the last 15 minutes reading this fantastic book. This will stay with me for a very long time and will definitely be in my top 5 of the year. Everything I needed in a book. Highly recommended.

I had such high hopes for this one, but sadly I was disappointed.
A beautiful premise, and at the start I was looking forward to seeing it develop. The beginning was intriguing and exciting, and then for some reason several chapters later, I wasn't as engaged with the story. Maybe I am just an old romantic, but I got annoyed when they clearly had an amazing connection and then just lived their entire lives apart and were only joined by the gift he left at her house once a year. Why didn't either of them speak when they had 49 times to rejoin?
The timing of the introduction of the characters' past stories frustrated me as I felt the start hadn't properly grown on me yet.
I was definitely moved by the ending, but the decision making "in the name of love" really annoyed me and I wasn't convinced by the characters' reasons for their silence.

The romantic in me would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good old wallow. Unfortunately I’m also an old cynic so probably not the best reviewer. However I complement the style and wonderful character development. A drama well worth reading.

This book is simply beautiful. A novel about love , life and tragedy. The story is told over two time periods. The tale of Elizabeth and Tom, two young lovers from different classes fighting against the odds to be together. Elizabeth the daughter of a Doctor and engaged to his colleague, falls for the local fisherman's son. The author, a powerful story teller, brings us back and forth over their lives to the present day with such accurate portrayal, of tragic events that both of them endured,. Will they get their happy ending. This book resonated so much me having gone through a similar experience last year. A well written , gorgeous book. I will definitely read more from this author

I like that the reason for the title of the book is evident from quite early on. It got me intrigued to carry on reading and find out more about the relationships in the story.

I feel for Elizabeth when she makes her way to London, not knowing if the person she has gone to see is even there still. Its a brave thing to dk and really exciting.

It's a beautifully romantic story but so tragic too, its bitter sweet and I loved it so much. I love this type of book that shows life doesn't always go the way you plan it and there are sometimes really tough times we go through.

I really like the 'now' and 'then' layout of the chapters it helps know where your at in terms of time frame.

The Authors note brought a tear to my, the reason for writing a book is so sad but what a fabulous book it is.

What a beautiful heart-rending story this is. A tale of steadfast love that has endured for fifty years, despite misunderstandings, deceptions and distance. For every one of those years Tom has left a crocus and a slip of paper bearing a wish on Elizabeth's doorstep on the anniversary of their first kiss, without them ever meeting again. When nothing arrives on their fiftieth anniversary, she knows something is wrong and finally goes in search of the love of her life, from whom she parted so long ago. The characters are so believable that the reader is drawn into their story which is gradually revealed through then and now chapter headings. Highly recommended but have a box of tissues to hand!

This is a Women's Fiction/Romance. This is a cute, but heartbreaking story. This book is told in (Then) and (Now). The two main characters Elizabeth and Tom loved each other when they where young, but somethings happen to pull them apart. They never fall out of loved with each other, and they each have secrets they have been keeping from each other. After 50 years, They meet up each other again and start their love back up. This books characters are so cute. This book did not pull me in from the beginning, but once I was pulled in I did not want to stop reading this book. I brought the audiobook from Audible, but the narrator I did not like. I won an arc of this book from goodreads giveaway, and I receive an e-copy of this book from Netgalley. This review is 100% my own opinion about this book.

On her favourite day of the year, Elizabeth Davenport awakens in her cottage on the wild and windy Cornish coast, opens her front door, and discovers a precious gift: the small blue crocus and a note that begins I Wish. The notes are never signed, but she knows they've been left by her first and truest love, Tom Hale. Each of these precious missives convey a simple wish for something they had missed, and the life they might have shared, if circumstances hadn't forced them apart all those years ago. She has kept them all. But on this day, what should have been the fiftieth anniversary of their falling in love, the gift fails to arrive. Could something have happened to Tom? Elizabeth has always been plagued by thoughts of "what if?" Propelled by worry and decades of pent up longing, Elizabeth packs a little suitcase, leaves Porthsennenon, and journeys to London to find the love of her life once again. Finding him, Elizabeth is faced with the desperate knowledge that any time they might have now is running out. Never before had she thought that she might truly lose time--forever. And now, knowing that life is too short, Elizabeth vows to fulfill as many of Tom's wishes as she can. Yet she fears that her efforts may expose the shameful secret that, until now, has kept them apart.

I am a big fan of Adams' thrillers and I was intrigued to see what this would be like. Well, I fell head over heels in love with this book, the story and the characters Adams has created. The whole way through this felt very personal and Adams includes an explanation of her idea at the back which made perfect sense and meant the book felt even more special than it already did.

Back to this book, and the plot is just beautiful. This flits between 'Then' and 'Now' and whilst I enjoyed both timelines, I adored the chapters set 'Now'; they were eloquent and incredibly moving. Plus, they had the added secrecy of the reader slowly learning the events of their past and have I mentioned just how moving this was?! I had tears pouring down my face at some points but only because of the stunning story-telling.

Whilst the plot is incredibly powerful, the characters have to be as well and Elizabeth and Tom are truly two of the most wonderful characters I have read about. They are so realistic and their story is enjoyable, heart-breaking and full of twists. What a couple to write about.

'Little Wishes' is simply beautiful from start to finish. The concept, plot and characters are stunning and all come together to make for enjoyable yet tear-jerking reading.

Thank you to NetGalley and Orion Publishing group for an advance copy.

The most beautiful love story! A love that never died! Spanning over a 50 year period! Separated by time, distance and misunderstanding but never fading and finally reunited in the autumn of their lives.
The beautiful Cornish coastal area, young love, family dynamics and unrequited love make for the most amazing love story told in both the past and the present in a beautifully tender sensitive manner particularly at the end when truths are told, revelations revealed and hearts laid bare as Tom and Elizabeth are finally brought together.
A lovely read that will stay with you long after you have read it.
Thank you netgalley for this early read.

Beautiful and well written. I was drawn into the love story between Elizabeth and Tom from the first page. The story begins fifty years ago when Elizabeth, a doctor’s daughter, falls in love with Tom, a fisherman. Their destiny leads them along different life paths but their love continues over the years. At each anniversary Tom leaves a blue crocus in Elizabeth’s doorstep along with a written wish. On the fiftieth anniversary Tom doesn’t arrive. Taking the basket of wishes Elizabeth leaves her cottage on the Cornish coast and travels to London to look for him. Reunited with each other the couple fulfil as many wishes as they can before Tom’s life is taken by cancer. A story of love and loss that is totally absorbing. This book wrapped me in it as much as I wrapped my arms around the characters. I smiled and I cried. The emotions of the story run through every page. A wonderful read and a definite recommendation.
