In short: <i>the grass is always greener...</i>

Two women, completely different women (somehow MOM is the main focus, actually), who hate themselves and each other switch bodies and have to live the life of the other one. How original!!!!!🤯

The characters are both complete asses, if I may say. Both think that they have it worse than the other woman, that they are superior than the other because they are "full time" mom/ professional woman with a career AND a mother (👏👏👏), that the other one is doing nothing, and that they are the perfect one while the other one stinks at life in general.

BUT, get this, they just hate the other woman because they are insecure about themselves, aawwwwwww.

And don't get me started on those useless, sorry excuses for husbands!

I really enjoyed this book! It seemed a little longer than it needed to be but it was a good summer read!

This book at first appeared to be a lighthearted, quick read about two moms who switch bodies. However it quickly became something more and an important message about today's society and the pressue we put on ourselves to do all the things. I really enjoyed the message hidden among a story about a working mom versus a stay at home mom. The timing was perfect as I am heading back to work next after being a stay at home mom myself. This book will make you want to hug your kids, take time to look at the clouds and say no to that thing you didn't really want to do anyways.

Thank you Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a fun take on Freaky Friday where two moms switch for 7 days. Wendy is a workaholic and Celeste is a stay-at-home mom and their parenting styles are polar opposites.

I don’t have kids and couldn’t relate to either Wendy or Celeste, but I really enjoyed it. There were some laugh out loud moments, and I can appreciate the theme that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

Overall it was a lighthearted and fun read.

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for my copy in exchange for a my honest review.

A funny body switch book, perfect for a summer long weekend. If you are a mother, expect some laugh-out-loud moments when you realize just how much you relate either to Wendy (working mom) or Celeste (stay-at-home mother). Offers much food for thought in terms of motherhood versus career. Or more like motherhood AND career.

I am grateful for this ARC for NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing.

Like freaky Friday, but with suburban moms. These two opposites such places and learn a lot more about each others lives and getting along

I imagine I could have cared about this book far more than I did. I didn't really connect to any of the characters and I found myself quite bored throughout the book. I thought Wendy was VERY annoying and I didn't feel as though she really apologized for the way she was shaming Celeste for her - very valid and healthy, mind you - parenting choices, which I didn't think was great, especially when the author's goal with the story was clearly to speak against mom-shaming. I didn't think it was done well and I don't think I'll remember this book in a month or two.

In this story, Wendy is ‘a working in the office during the day and takes care of her kids at night type of mom’ and Celeste is a ‘stay at home supermom’. Both ladies are raising their families in the same town and their kids are friendly. More importantly, both women are jealous of each other. One night the ladies drink too much sangria at a get together and wake up “switched”. Wendy is now living Celeste’s life and Celeste is living Wendy’s life! This was such a cute read, and really highlighted that you do not always know what someone else is dealing with until you are in their shoes.. or in this case their bodies. Another fun and light read by Kelly Harms! Thanks to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Freaky Friday meets ABC's Wife Swap in this suburban magical realism story.

I'm not married and I don't have kids, so I'm pretty sure I'm not the intended audience for this book, but I could still appreciate the message of the story. I like that it shows there is not one correct way to parent and that everyone is just doing the best they can with what they have. I also like the theme of women supporting and learning from other women.

I will say that I wish there was more diversity with the switch. Both MCs are in privileged middle class situations, so there really isn't an adjustment in terms of race or socio-economic class. Not a bad thing, but I think the story may have had more of an effect had the MCs been more different rather than the working vs. stay at home mom.

Overall, a fine story with good intentions.

Thank you to Lake Union Publishing and Netgalley for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Y’all this book was pretty funny while also driving home the concept of the grass is not always greener + you can’t understand someone until you walk in their shoes (in this book quite literally).

I enjoyed the growth and development of these characters, it was fun and heartwarming story I enjoyed.

This book is currently out now and also available on Kindle Unlimited.

I got massive Freaky Friday vibes from this read!

The Seven Day Switch is about two mums that manage to switch bodies during a vast consumption of Sangria! They learn how different their lives are and learn a lot of lessons along the way.

I enjoyed the read - lighthearted and quit funny but unfortunately, I can't say it was a 'stand out' book. I didn't connect with the characters in a way that i would hope to when reading a book. However, I can say, apart from Freaky Friday, it wasn't a typical story and was refreshing to read something different.

Lighthearted, beach read quaint and cute. It was a fun read with characters who drew you in. The storyline is enjoyable and leaves you satisfied.

Freaky Friday re-telling? Say no more. THE SEVEN DAY SWITCH is a quirky story of polar opposite neighbors, Celeste Mason and Wendy Charles. Celeste is a stay at home mother and Pinterest queen while Wendy spends her days climbing the corporate ladder. The mommy wars come to a screeching halt when they switch bodies after drinking mysterious sangria. Lives upended, the women must learn to thrive in their unfamiliar new roles.

Although this is a lighthearted story of competitive momming, it does touch on important themes including marital roles, body acceptance, contentment and most notably, comparison. The ending had an after-school special vibe (cue the Full House end-of-episode instrumental music) but it worked with the nostalgia of the book.

As a mom who primarily stays home with my boys, the life of a career-driven mother intrigues me. It’s easy to gloss over the challenges of full-time working mothers, wistfully dreaming about having a conversation on topics other than excrement, Sesame Street, and construction vehicles. But as the old saying goes, the grass is always greener on the other side.

I appreciated the reminder that the pursuit of perfect parenthood is a fool's errand. Motherhood in all its forms is complicated and beautiful whether it is Pinterest-worthy, or not.

When you believe that productivity is the answer, it no longer makes sense from a happiness nor emotional exercise. Yes, Wendy was successful but she she was exhausted and trapped by people whom didn't appreciate her. Celeste had a great life but one in which she never felt stimulation. It is only did they exchange lives, did they realize what is truly important.

Light hearted is what I expected, a beach read, but this book was more than that. I'd give it 3.5 stars as it covered a lot of subjects in an unusual way, but one that worked.
Picture two mothers, stay at home mom of 3 and busy business owner mom of 2, having to deal with each other while each can't stand the other or the lifestyle the other has chosen. Then add some exotic vodka and the next morning they find they are now inhabiting the body of the other. (I don't think that is giving anything away, given the title.)
How they handle it is sometimes a little off to me (the flour?) but we do handle problems differently, which is why I would suggest this to my students. What is right for one person might not work for another, but there is no one right way; it is whatever works for us. Creative way of putting yourself in someone else's shoes and making us see things in a different light. I think it makes us more tolerant of others and was done tastefully.
Nice job by the author and I will look forward to more of her books.

What a fun read! I love the unique concept of this. This genre of 'magical realism' is a bit outside my norm, but I am so glad I gave this a go. The characters are fun and interesting. This is the type of read that I hated to have to put down. In addition, it had a great message for Moms of all types. I highly recommend it.

Delightful, funny, heartwarming! This book was such a lovely escape from the darker books I normally read. The characters couldn’t be anymore different yet deep down, first and foremost, they are mothers. I think any mother at any age can relate to these characters which is what makes them so loveable. I couldn’t help but chuckle at some of the things they said and did but then a few pages later I could have cried with them in frustration. This book may have a storyline that has been used numerous times yet the author acknowledges this and lets it create humour. I simply loved this book and it covers many of the everyday trials that a mother faces throughout motherhood. This book would be a great gift for any mother, so she could relax not only while reading it but also relax her expectations of herself.

Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sending me the ARC to read.

I enjoyed this. I love the fact we get both POVs and you can really see where each character is coming from, especially with the topic of motherhood and the whole stay at home vs working mother, Harms is exploring.

In terms of characters, I liked and found Wendy's story more interesting and compelling though I did like Celeste and she really grew on me. (I did think she was slightly overboard at first, not as much as Wendy though!) I really liked their friendship and loved the whole freaky Friday situation which was so much fun to read about.

Overall, I enjoyed this and would recommend!

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC. Celeste, a stay at home mom who fills in all the gaps of working moms, feeds her kids only organic food and no brain rotting tv vs. Wendy, a full time working mom who feeds her kids school lunches and fast food and barely holding it together. After competing on who can make the best sangria for the school fundraiser, they wake up the next day in each other's bodies and lives. It is an age old story that has been told many times over so it was highly predictable. However, it a great reminder that you should always give other moms some slack not knowing any of their situation. We should be a team and cheerleaders for each other, not enemies. Started slow but ended on a great note! #thesevendayswitch #kellyharms #july2021

I love a good chick-lit occasionally & last year I had read her previous book, The Overdue Life of Amy Byler & enjoyed it so much! This one was no different – light-hearted, warm, funny, yet thought-provoking, The Seven Day Switch thoroughly satisfied my chick-lit cravings!

Synopsis -

Celeste Mason is the picture-perfect stay-at-home mom, while her busy neighbor Wendy Charles is a productivity consultant in her own company. After a potluck, they wake up to find that their bodies have been switched! When Celeste & Wendy’s roles get reversed, with their starkly opposite lives & personalities, they are in for a string of discoveries.

Review -

The narrative alternates between Celeste & Wendy’s POVs. Being a working mom myself, I could totally relate to Wendy’s daily life struggles & her mental burden. I also very much understood Celeste’s state of mind as a stay-at-home mom & her need to constantly justify her life choices.

And oh! the judgements, the clichés & the unconscious biases, we harbor towards working and non-working mothers, I think it is very very relevant to the current world we live in.

Wendy & Celeste begin to realize what each other’s lives really looks like, when put in their shoes. As they introspect themselves & reflect on their journeys, a lot of things are put back into perspective, making them more appreciative of what they have & realize the value of what they don’t.

The ending was really interesting & kept me on my toes to find out how things will span out for both of them. I was very happy with the outcome and the right decisions, Wendy & Celeste end up making! The only issue being, it dragged a bit with some unnecessary banter which could’ve been avoided.

However, this book is a classic case of "grass is greener" on the other side. We all tend to assume that other people have the perfect lives & torture our already tired selves with the harsh comparisons, expectations & guilt. The author tries to ease this mentality in a fun way based on the concept of Freaky Friday. So if you love the movie, you will love this book!

Thanks NetGalley & Lake Union Publishing for the ARC!
