My sister is the crocheter of the family, I’m the cross stitcher so for this we joined forces.

When I spotted this and saw the cover image I thought we were onto a winner. The intention was to have a go at a design however that changed when we scrolled through the book as we both agreed only a couple of the designs struck us as cute—funnily enough those used on the cover—and sadly we weren’t inspired. .

Great idea showcasing the designs of different designers but you need eye catching designs and these fell very short.

This would make a nice gift for someone new to crochet who would like to learn the techniques and have lots of patterns together in the same place. New UK crocheters beware though, the instructions are in US terms so if you learn using this book you may find UK patterns confusing.

The patterns themselves are standard animals. The internet is full of tutorials for these kinds of toys so there is nothing here that experienced crocheters can't find elsewhere. But as an introduction, or a gift it would be fine.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an e-copy of this book.

Amigurumi Crochet: Farm and Forest Animals by Kristen Rask is currently scheduled for release on February 16 2021. These patterns come from talented artists around the world, with tips and tricks for learning amigurumi, the Japanese art of crocheting adorable companions. Crochet yourself a wide-eyed owl, a huggable fox, a napping fawn, a pig with an adorable curly tail, and more. These animals make for great decorations around your home, unique gifts for your friends and family, and something to keep in the car or backpack as a furry companion! The book offers a glossary of crochet terms for beginners, easy instructions to follow, and helpful photos to make sure you're on track with each of these projects. The patterns: Cow, Pig, Chick, Giraffe, Bird, Koala, Bear Pod, Dog, Alpaca, Peter Pilot Duck, Owl, Bunny, Beaver, Bear, Fish, Hedgehog, Cats, Fox, Raccoon, Fawn, Squirrel, Kitten, Mouse, Skunk, and Tortoise.

Amigurumi Crochet: Farm and Forest Animals is a solid crochet pattern and instruction book. It offers readers exactly what the title promises, and does it well. I liked that it included the tools and tricks that help beginning crocheters find comfort and success in the process. I thought the instructions and corresponding pictures were very well done, and would be easy for beginners to follow and understand. I do think that more advanced crafters are likely to skip the beginning of the book and go just for the pattern they want or need. Most of the patterns are also similar to those I have seen before, but they are all well done. I would recommend this book for crocheters that are just starting to make the stuffed toys, or plan on making many of them. Otherwise, I would recommend this book for libraries, for checking out when you need to make one of these for the first time, or to revisit a specific pattern.

'Farm and forest' is a lovely concept for an amigurumi animal pattern book, and this one includes many of each (plus a few others that don't fit the theme neatly, but are welcome nonetheless). For review purposes, I made the bunny.

The introductory section is good, with helpful information about supplies and techniques, as well as a safety reminder for those creating baby toys. Basic stitches are explained well (US terminology) and include plenty of images to reinforce the text. One thing I didn't really like was that all of these patterns use what is called an 'adjustable ring' rather than the more common amigurumi 'magic ring'. For my bunny, I tried the adjustable ring a few times, but gave up on it when I couldn't get it to adjust, and reverted to my familiar magic ring instead. I also found that one piece in the pattern I was following, didn't include instructions for finishing it off. That's ok for me as I know what to do. But for these reasons (the ring, plus the potential for omissions) I'd be hesitant to recommend this book to a beginner unless they were being mentored by a more experienced crocheter.

The book is beautifully illustrated, and there are lots of animals I would love to make in the future.

This book has patterns to crochet 26 cute animals, by different designers. Each pattern has clear instructions, with lots of photographs. I particularly liked the patterns for the monkey, owl, cats, squirrel and the bird with a nest, eggs and a chick!

A collection of cute critters to crochet. The instructions and diagrams are mostly fairly clear, but some of the patterns have bits that are seriously confusing. Example: the bird pattern says to "sew on the beak," but it doesn't tell you how to make the beak. (They seem to mean embroider it.)

It starts with instructions for the basic crochet patterns, but again there are a few bobbles. Because of this, and because of the complexity of the patterns, this is an intermediate level book, not beginner or even advanced beginner.

Recommended for confident crocheters who are looking for amigurumi animal patterns.

This book is beautifully put together. The crochet patterns are adorable. Even though I am a beginner, I can't wait to try them out. The terminology is broken down perfectly for newbies like myself. The pictures are an added bonus.

There are 26 projects in this book, which include projects for crocheting a Monkey, Owl, Dog, Squirrel to name but a few.

The introduction includes materials that are required, plus crochet techniques/stitches with colour photographs to accompany them and an abbreviation chart.

Each project has been created by different artists and includes the materials required along with the expected size it is once made up. It then goes on to the instructions on how to make up the animal - it is divided into a number of stages (ears, eyes, body, etc) and most steps are accompanied with photographic pictures to help with the stitching or shape of the body part.

If you like cute animals to crochet then this is a good book for beginners and those who are looking for something different to crochet.

I received this book from Netgalley in return for a honest review.

Amigurumi Crochet: Farm and Forest Animals is a beautiful book with a lot of pictures.

It has sections about tools and techniques and has several pictures of the stitches used.

The animals are really cute and the instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Each animal is crocheted in multiple pieces that are then attached to each other. They are so cute that it was hard to decide which one to start first.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

I choose this book because I’ve being wanting to make amigurumis for a while and it seem like a good book to start. I’ve done crochet before, not much experience with it either, but it was my first time doing amigurumis. I wasn’t disappointed but I did find a few issues with it.

I was able to follow most instructions. I end up doing decent looking animals. They weren’t perfect but, being my first time, I wasn’t really expecting them to be. Even if I did follow all the instructions, I felt like it lacks directions to join the different parts, mostly when it came to the head. That was the hardest part for me. Other than that it was easy to make them.

The animals were cute most of them, some weren’t was adorable as I would like, but overall it was a great book to learn. I have so much fun working with it. Definitely recommend it.

Amigurumi Crochet: Farm and Forest Animals is a super cute book of patterns to make amigurumi animals. It is suitable for all levels of experience from beginner to more advanced as the book starts with basic instructions on crochet and how to do the basic stitches. There are a variety of patterns for different animals including a fox, a squirrel, mouse, racoon, a monkey and many more. The book is full of bright, colourful pictures and the instructions are easy to follow. The animals are small though and might be a bit fiddly for some. Overall an excellent book perfect for these pandemic days when you are encouraged to be indoors.

Amigurumi Crochet: Farm and Forest Animals by Kristen Rask is a great book of patterns to make adorable amigurumi animals!

The book starts with basic instructions on the different crochet stiches. There are 26 different patterns, including a Koala, Giraffe, Kitten, and Skunk. I look forward to making some these patterns. I'm curious if these patterns will also work using the small rubber bands (the kind that people make bracelets with) because I love creating different things with those!

These patterns seem easy to follow! I'm definitely excited about this book! At the end of the book, there is a list of all of the artists and their websites.

I'm so grateful to Kristen Rask, Quarto Publishing Group – becker & mayer!, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.

I picked up this book because I’m always on the lookout for cute amigurumi patterns. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in this one. Although it claims to be for both beginners and experts alike, I’m not certain that those that are new to making amigurumi would be able to easily follow the instructions. I also think the book suffers somewhat from having each animal be from a separate designer. An effort has been made to have the patterns be written/formatted in a standard way, which is helpful, but this also means that if someone is struggling with trying to figure out how to crochet an animal and understand the pattern, they’ll face that struggle with each pattern. And while I know individual tastes and ideas of what constitutes cute or appealing stuffed animals, I found most of the designs included here didn’t match mine. Out of 26 designs, there were only two that I found cute enough to consider making. There are better books out there for teaching the basics of crocheting amigurumi and books with more appealing designs. I would give this one a pass and consider one of the Zoomigirumi series instead.

Great book full of amigurumi animal patterns. A great variety and I liked that they were all from different people.

I think the patterns would be fine for beginners as well as seasoned crocheters, however i would warn that they are very small little animals when complete. May give you a sore hand if you aren’t used to working with that size!

Thank you for the arc!

--Small Cute Crocheted Animals, Suitable for Beginners--

I received an advanced review copy from the publisher through NetGalley, and here are my thoughts.

The amigurumi animals in this book are mostly small and simple designs, so very suitable for those new to crochet that want to try this craft out.

All the patterns require light worsted (DK) yarn, so again, this will make it more suitable for beginners.

The instructions are clearly presented, and the format is attractive. It includes instructions on how to crochet.

I give it four stars because for me it does not have that "Wow" factor in the designs, which comes from a variety of designers. However, I suggest to use the "Look Inside" feature,, take a look at the animals and decide for yourself.

This would also be a cute book for children learning to crochet and have already mastered the basics.
